Chapter 3
So his mission began. In order for him to get to get a list of the best of the best bachelors, he turned to his Bhabhi for help. She had been working at getting him married so long, she was quite an expert at this. He also pulled the boys into it. Vheer was helpful in giving them information of his sister's likes and dislikes. It seemed she was quite status conscious and she already had a complex that she was the sister of the famous Ash Ranee. So they set out to get her a groom.
Losing her again was never an option for him. But he knew her affection for her father and he respected that. And he respected her father as well. He knew he was a fair man. And on top of that he wanted to do right by Arpita. He did promise to marry her and now he wanted the find her a groom. But not any groom, he wanted to find a man that would care for her and protect her and that would make her happy. He knew now that they would never have been happy. She was not his Raneeji. She was not the woman that could transform from a glamourous super model to Jane of the jungle when they went on "quests. He still had a smile on his face every time he thought of her name for his excursions. She was independently wealthy in her own right and was still so humble and had so much of herself to give to everyone around her. She loved fiercely, most especially him, her father and brother. He had come to understand that although she never really got along with her sister, she felt a measure of guilt for the life she had been blessed with. She had the freedom her sister never had. She travelled the world, hobnobbed with the rich and famous. They were not close enough for her to divulge that although Aarti loved her job, she did not like everything that came with it. That is why she divulged so little of herself to the media and was very careful not to let her true identity be known to the public.
Aarti felt depressed. She didn't want to go out and she didn't want to stay in the house. The only one that really spoke to her in the family was Vheer. She was most distraught that her father was not speaking to her. And to her dismay, Yash was constantly trying to contact her. He called, her texted her and e-mailed her constantly. She only had official social media accounts in her professional capacity which she checked from time to time. He even left cryptic messages on there. It was little messages that he knew she would understand. She had to admit to herself that it touched her heart. She was so angry at him. But she missed him so much. Even more now that he had re-entered her life. She desperately wanted to make her father happy and yet the fear of losing him again forever gripped her heart with a vengeance. It took everything within her not to answer his calls or reply to his messages. She continually found herself daydreaming and dreaming about him. She fantasised about him coming for her and running away together, even when she realised that it could never be their reality.
In the meantime she was subjected to a parade of prospective grooms. She hated it. She felt like she was on display. She had never even felt like that when she was on the ramp because that was her choice and this was not. She only wanted one man. And he was out of her reach. Whether he admitted it to himself or not. Fortunately her father at least was adamant that she should approve of the groom.
Finally they found what they thought was the perfect guy. He was one of the few actors that Yash befriended throughout his years in the industry. They never worked together but they had a lot in common and became good friends and best of all he knew that his parents had been at him to get married. But he didn't want his friend to be unhappy so he arranged a meeting to see if there was any rapport between them.
He invited Aarti, Arpita, Vidhi and Pankaj and the boys and their dates out for dinner. Aarti was very reluctant to come but again she gave in to her baby brother. She dressed in an anarkali suit and she saw how Yash gave her a snarky smile. He had never seen her in traditional wear. As much as she tried to manoeuvre the seating arrangements, he managed to sit next to her. In fact he sat between himself and Arpita. He was very chuffed with himself. Neither Aarti nor Arpita knew about his deal with his future father in law.
He introduced Amaan to them. Arpita was very impressed to be having dinner with an actor of his callibre. She positively gushed over him. But then Amaan and Aarti got to talking and derailed his plans as they seemed to hit it off immediately.
"Om my hat. You are Ash Ranee. said Amaan. "I can't believe that I am sitting next to one of the world's top models. Wow.
Aarti giggled.
"I am surprised you recognised me. I am not normally recognised in India.
"Are you kidding me? I would recognise you anywhere. You are so hot.
"Thanks, I think. You are quite hot yourself. Tell me would you consider to model for an ad campaign I was contracted to.
"Maybe, will you be in the ad too?
"The client would like that, but I don't model anymore.
"Tell you what? If you do it, I will.
She smiled.
"Ok, deal.
Arpita went into her witch mode again as once again Aarti stole the show.
"Typical. she said.
"What? said Amaan.
"Miss super model must always make everything about her. There are other people at the table you know. It's rude to talk about yourself and your job.
"Wow, jealous much. said Amaan. Arpita gave him an angry glare, now in a foul mood because this gorgeous specimen was wrapped around her finger.
Yash was beyond annoyed and incredibly jealous. He got an idea.
"Uhh!Aarti said mid-sentence as she felt a hand on her thigh.
"Aarti? Amaan said looking at her confused.
"Whats the matter Raneeji? asked Yash.
"Uh, nothing. I thought I saw a rat. she stressed "rat as she looked at Yash.
"Rat? Arpita looked nervous.
"Don't worry Arpita, this is the most upmarket restaurant in the city, there won't be any rats here. Aarti is mistaken. He smiled.
He moved his hand further up her thigh.
"Good, cause I hate rats she said to him again. She tried to move his hand away but he just grabbed her hand and held it.
From that point Aarti was pretty quiet as she could barely concentrate on even her food when his hand was on her thigh. Yash kept steering the conversation in Arpita's direction but they seemed to have bicker from there. They did not seem to care for each other at all.
Afterwards, they went to a club but Vidhi and Pankaj chose to go home. Yash had gotten a limo and he made sure that he sat between Aarti an Arpita in the car. He put his arm around Arpita. Arti was beside herself with anger. She looked at him and he smiled back at her. He then continued to talk to Arpita and ignoring her completely. She tried to have a conversation with Amaan but could hardly concentrate on what he was saying.
As soon as they got to the club, Arpita and Yash and the boys went to the dance floor.
She was not in the mood to dance.
"You are giving me a complex, Amaan said.
"Hmm?
"I am considered one of the most handsome men in India and here you are ignoring me completely.
"I'm sorry. she said truly remorsefully.
"Why do I get the feeling there is something going on between you and Yash?
"No, no, there is nothing going on?
"Liar. he smiled.
"Now you sound like him.
"Who?
"Ya ... she was caught out.
He laughed.
"So you want to return the favour and make him jealous, already he can't keep his eyes off us.
She shrugged.
"Why not.
They were hardly on the dance floor when Yash came to cut in. Amaan had no option but to let her go. But instead of dancing with him she walked off the dancefloor and went to stand outside on the balcony.
He followed.
"Why are you running away Raneeji?
"What is going on here? she demanded
"What do you mean? he asked innocently.
"What are you playing at?
"Nothing.
"Don't lie to me. I know you have no interest in my sister. Why are you being so attentive to her all of a sudden?
"Jealous?
"N ... No ... of ... of course not.
"R ... Really? he imitated her stammering.
"Shut up. she said irately.
"You might as well stop what you are doing. I am not marrying you, Yash Scindiya. I told you that. I will marry who my father chooses.
"And if that person is me?
"Yash, please.
"Dance with me.
Before she could say anything, he dragged her to the dance floor.
She tried to stay rigid but as usual his touch melted her and she held onto him and moved where he led.
"I miss you sweetheart.
"Yash, please. Why are you making this so difficult?
"Why is it difficult? Because you love me? Because you want to be with me?
"You are getting married to my sister.
"No, Aarti. Never. You are my wife.
"You divorced me.
"The biggest mistake of my life. But it is fixable. We can fix this baby. We can be together again. Just say the word.
"No. Don't you see? She already hates me. She already feels I take everything from her. And ma feels the same.
"But your dad wants to see you happy.
"Dad? Does he have something to do with this?
"No. I just said he wants to see you happy.
"What if Arpita chooses someone else? Then will you give me another chance?
She buried her head in his chest.
"Lest not talk anymore.
He held her tighter as the moved as one.
At the end of the evening it seemed that Arpita and Amaan were hardly talking to each other. And if they were they were bickering.
"So pal, what did you think of Arpita? Yash asked when they dropped Aarti and her siblings.
"She is quite a piece of work. I rather like Raneeji.
"Her name is Aarti. Aarti. No one calls her Raneeji but me. Yash said angrily.
"Aaah, so my suspicion was right. You brought me here for a reason. And that involves you landing the beautiful Ash Ranee. Spill it.
"Ok, I'll tell you the story. he told him his whole plan to get Aarti.
"Come on, are you jumping on the match making bandwagon too? My parents nag me every day, not you too.
"I am just asking if you like her. You seemed quite cosy on the dance floor.
"Mmm, she's beautiful but too argumetive. But very, very beautiful. She made me so angry but I must admit she is intriguing. And beautiful.
"Hmm, seems to me you think she's beautiful. So you do like her. Yash was so happy.
"As I said I am intrigued. I wouldn't mind seeing her again. But if she fights me again I swear ... Yash laughed.
"So you and Aarti? Amaan said.
"I am so madly in love with her. We used to be married and now I want her back. I will do anything for that to happen.
"Wow, Yash Scindiya in love. Now that's something.
He smiled.
"A lot depends on whether you like Arpita or not though. But I won't force you to do anything you don't want to do.
"Actually ... well I did feel something when we were dancing together and I am willing to explore but I'm sure she won't. Good luck pal.
"I will make it happen.
It wasn't difficult to get Arpita to go out with Amaan again. Yash arranged for her to meet him on the set of his latest movie. Of course Arpita being Arpita loved meeting all the celebs. After the shoot, they went for lunch and Yash conveniently had an emergency that he had to rush off too and asked Amaan to take Arpita home. Even though they were once again having a tiff at the time. He just smiled as he looked at them while he was walking away. He recognised the blossoming embers of love.
Aarti was busy editing when Amaan dropped Arpita.
"Hello, hotty Amaan said.
She laughed.
"Ugh a very dishevelled looking Arpita said and stormed off. Amaan just smiled and as she walked off.
"She is very temperamental isn't she?
"You seem to like temperamental as well as teasing.
"What do you mean?
"I have been in the modelling industry for more years than I care to remember. I recognise how people look when they just ... you know.
"No we didn't do anything ...
"I just meant kissed.
"Oh he sighed. "I ... I ...
"And I suggest you get a shirt sans lipstick stains before you meet our parents.
Amaan checked his shirt collar and closed the stains with his hand.
"I do assume that your intentions with my sister are honourable.
He blushed.
"She is kinda cute in her own abrasive, argumentative way. And very beautiful.
"Yes she is. And I will be watching you. Good bye Amaan.
"Bye ... Bye Aarti.
She laughed. She immediately made her way to Arpita's room. She was busy pacing.
"So?
"So what?
"I think I really like Amaan. I will tell dad I have decided on a groom. Aarti said.
"What! You want to marry Amaan! Do you want all the men in the world?
"You are marrying Yash aren't you? Or is there something you need to tell me.
"No. she blushed.
"Not even why your lipstick is smudged. Arpita rushed to the mirror and looked up at Aarti in embarrassment.
"Or why Amaan had the same shade of lipstick on his shirt collar?
"I thought he liked me but when he saw you ...?
"When he saw me, he tried to make you jealous. He succeeded, clearly.
"Why would he want me if he can have you?
"Why indeed? Ever heard of a little thing called love?
"Love? You think so Di. But he is Amaan Verma, a great actor and model and he is sooo handsome. When we met he only had eyes for you.
"Yes we chatted. We are in the same industry sort of and it we have a lot of things in common. But that was it. He does not the display the kind of passion for me as he does for you. I may be Ash Ranee, but you're the one he finds beautiful.
"Me, Di?
"Yes you. He told me so.
"This is not just your plan to get Yash?
"I have no plans. You can marry Yash, I won't stand in your way, but will you be able to get Amaan out or your mind. I know what it's like to lose the one you love and have them still occupying your heart and mind completely. It's painful. Don't do anything that you will regret just to get back at me. Please Arpita. I'm sorry that I hurt you by just being me. But I do love you and I want you to be happy. Truly happy.
Aarti turned around and started walking out of the room.
"Di, now I can understand how you feel about Yashji and I am sorry too. I know it's not your fault that you are beautiful and famous. I know I was horrible to you. Can you forgive me?
Aarti went to hug her.
"Of course I can. You are my baby sister. I love you.
"Di, will you speak to Pappa about me not marrying Yashji?
"I won't have to. I am sure there will be another proposal for you very soon. Trust me.
"Really di?
"I said trust me.
A week later:
Yash and Amaan were standing nervously in Aarti's father office.
Amaan looked at Yash and Yash signalled with his eyes to talk. Amaan shook his head and Yash frowned at him.
"So what can I do for your boys? asked her father not looking up from his work.
"Well, sir. Yash started as Amaan still was quiet. "This is Amaan Verma. I am sure you have seen him on tv or in a movie.
"No, can't say that I have.
"Well, he is a very famous Bollywood actor. But besides that he has made some sound investments so even if he does not act anymore, he is still very wealthy.
"And why do I need to know about this stranger's financial status.
"Well, sir ... Remember our agreement?
"Hmmm? Agreement?
Yash was getting nervous.
"The agreement about my marriage to Aarti.
"Oh that. Yes, so?
"So, Amaan is here to ask for Arpita's hand in marriage.
"Oh, is he doing this because you asked him to? How do I know he will look after my daughter?
"Sir, I love her. I promise I will look after her. Amaan finally spoke up. "Please don't refuse the marriage. I will send my family immediately. Please just say yes.
Finally their father looked up from his work.
"Yash, you outdid yourself. I only wanted someone to look after my girl but you have found someone that loves her too. But what about Aarti. Do you think she will accept you?
"She has no choice, sir. She is meant for me.
"So confident?
"I have to be.
The next day:
Aarti was highly amused. Arpita refused to look at Amaan. She was angry because he had not bothered to propose to her and now he had brought his parents.
"Arpi. Are you not happy? she whispered.
"I am, but that is not the point. she whispered back angrily.
"Come on, you are marrying Amaan Verma, one of the most famous actors in Bollywood. And he is crazy about you. The poor man is sweating, he is so nervous that you will refuse. Please Arpi, smile
She looked at Aarti who gave her a big smile.
"Smile she said again.
She had no choice but to smile at Aarti and then at Amaan.
There was an audible sigh of relief from him.
Another week later:
Aarti was standing outside on the balcony getting some fresh air.
"You look beautiful today Raneeji. I can't wait to see what you will look like at our engagement.
"Yash please ...
"Please what? Arpita is engaged now. Surely there is nothing that can keep us apart now?
"After everything that has happened ... it's not so easy. So much has changed.
"But our love has not changed. Has it?
"Yash ...
"Just answer the question, Raneeji. That's all that I want to hear.
"Love isn't always enough. We already know that. Mom and dad might approve but your family will never approve of me for your wife. I was a model, I worked full time, I married you without permission, I was pregnant and the list goes on. If we get together now and the media delves into our past, it will all come out. Can you imagine all the gossip and speculation? First you married me, then nearly got engaged to my sister, then back with me. Can our families deal with that kind of media exposure? I have always tried to shield my family from that. I don't know how else to live but the way that I am Yash. I will not conform. I cannot confirm. And this is not me being stubborn, this is just me being realistic and knowing myself. I have to fight this battle with my mother all the time, I don't think I can do it with your parents.
"You still haven't answered my question, Aarti. I already know the answer but I need to hear it from you please. I know what you are saying, I know what happened in the past, I felt the loss and pain with you. I was broken just as you were. But 5 years later and still I can't get you out of my heart and mind. All I need is for you to tell me what's in your heart, please my love? That is the first step. Just tell me that you love me and I promise, I will fight every obstacle to have you in my life. You said you don't know how to else to live but the way you are. Aarti, I don't know how else to live but with you in my life. I stopped living without you. I breathed, I walked, worked, ate, I did everything but I was dead inside. Now that you are back in my life I feel life again. Please don't let me die again Aarti. Please don't let us die. I can deal with everything with you by my side. The media, my parents, yours. Aarti, I am proud of you. I am proud of the person that you are, the way you have built your career, the way you kept yourself from the life you could have led to stay pure, I am proud of your work ethic, I am proud of how much empathy, love and concern you have for people. I will protect you, and our families will have to deal with what's to come. Now you are my priority. Don't let's make the same mistake we did 5 years ago. Let's not walk away from each for no reason. I didn't say it then but I am saying it now. I need you Aarti. I needed you so much then and need you even more now. Please ...
"Aarti! the both jumped at her mother's voice.
"Ma, we were just talking. she said. She saw Arpita behind standing behind her mother.
"I heard.
Aarti looked down, waiting for the attack about to come.
"I'm sorry my baby. I only realise now what harm I did to you. I was too busy trying to keep Arpita safe and away from the life that you lived that I didn't realise what I was doing to you. I didn't realise that I was acting out of fear of what could happen to you so far away from your family. And ... and I am ashamed to say that I was jealous of the relationship you had with your father. I fell in love with him because he loved and accepted us both, not many men would've and then when you were his favourite, I resented it and tried to overcompensate especially with Arpita. And yes, I did not want my peers to know your profession also because of my reputation, when I should have been proud of the success you have made of yourself at such a tender age. Can you ever forgive me?
Aarti was stunned. She could not ever even remember a time where her mother spoke to her like that.
"Please beta. she had tears in her eyes.
Aarti went to her and hugged her.
"Mom, no forgiveness needed. I was far from the perfect daughter too. We both imperfect and we didn't always like what the other did but we still love each other. Don't we?
"So much her mother said.
They hugged again.
"So now that we understand each other better, what I am saying comes from the best possible place. You know that right?
Aarti nodded.
"Listen to you heart. You've denied it long enough. You have a man that loves you, is committed to you, will fight for you. A man that you love too. What are you scared of? You are the girl that stayed without her family since 15 years old, you are the girl that chose the right man to marry at a young age, and you are the girl that survived the loss of her baby and her husband without falling apart. You are independently wealthy, have your own company. You are strong beta. You can do this. You have my love and support, in fact the whole families. The Scindiya's will come around too when they realise how much you love each other. Stop fighting this. Be happy.
Aarti had tears in eyes. She looked back at Yash. He had a smile on his face. He stepped forward and kneeled down in front of her and reached into his pocket and pulled out a beautiful solitaire ring. She smiled down at him.
"Aarti Sharma, Aarti Yash Scindiya, Raneeji, My queen, my love, my life. Again I kneel before you, asking you to share my life with me. You said yes then but we made mistakes and lost each other. But we never stopped loving each other. This time I promise to never let you go, no matter what, because you are and will always be the queen of my heart. Will you be my wife?
She wiped her tears.
"Yes, yes. With all my heart yes. she stretched out her hand as he giggled happily.
He then got up and twirled her around and gave her a passionate kiss.
"Sorry, sorry. I'm just so happy. he said to her parents when done, but they were both beaming.
The Scindiya's were harder to win over. They only accepted the marriage as Yash presented them with the fact of their re-marriage. It was obvious that she was not the perfect bahu for them. They chose to live on their own to avoid unnecessary confrontation.. Aarti was determined to win them over, but not at the cost of her love.
The hiding was over. It was big news that Yash Scindiya was engaged to Ash Ranee and her sister was engaged to Amaan Verma. The time before the wedding was a hectic whirlwind of interviews and photoshoots. Now that that her identity was known, the paparazzi was always around. Everyone wanted to know their story and they told. EVERYTHING. And although there were some negativity that sometimes hurt, most of people loved their story. This was a new era for them. No more hiding, they were totally transparent.
A double wedding was discussed but Yash wanted to make everything special for his bride to be only. The wedding was a big event with celebrities that spanned the world.
3 years later Aarti was lying in bed playing with Yash's hair as 1 and a half year old Ansh lay asleep on his father's chest. She was in awe of her guys. They were all tired, they had a photoshoot that day.
"Could it get any better than this baby? she asked.
"Not much. I am looking forward to our princess that will be joining us shortly. One that looks like her beautiful mama. Wouldn't that be the ultimate of perfection? he rubbed her slightly protruding tummy. They had just recently found out the baby would be a girl.
"You best remember I am the queen around here. Princess or no.
"Of course. He smiled, "my queen will always be my number one. Love you so much. Raneeji.
"Good answer and ditto she said snuggling into his arms. Into her bliss.
They were so happy. They never took their love for granted no matter how hectic their lives got. Their priorities were always each other. They had both taken extra care and slacked their fast paced lives during this as well as their last pregnancy. Their son was loved so much. He was after all a culmination of their love. The missed going on their quests but they understood that they now had another little person depending on them to be there. But they never stopped their philanthropy. Only now when they went on trips, the destinations were much safer than before. Like any relationship, there were arguments and being in the public eye was never easy but they dealt with it as it came. Now they were stronger and more mature and loved harder. They worked hard at their careers but worked harder at their marriage. Now they had their little prince and the princess on the way to make the circle of their love kingdom bigger
The End

that was quick.I was inspired to finish at least one story when I saw you had posted. So credit goes to you.
Beautiful ending 😃, especially Yash finally fully committing to the woman he loves , no more running away. He put out there and it paid off 😳. I did understand Aarti cautiousness and hesitation; she was honest, about who she is and can't conform to the strict family restriction or demands if they had a chance to make it.
I am glad to see Shoba recognizing that she has been too hard and unfair with Aarti. In a way she drove Aarti away which led her to found herself and fulfill her dreams. However there was this part of her who was missing that acceptance from her Mom. Ar least it would be easier now that she has the support of her entire family not just her father.
Yash setting up Aaman and Arpita turn out to be so funny , the fighting between them was such a giveway for I am fighting my attraction to you.
I really love Aarti and Arpita father, he loves his children and did his duty and both his girls are happy now.
Thanks for completing this story, Bee. That was a nice surprise. 😛

I do love happy endings! I especially loved Yash's relentless pursuit of his one and only queen. he even went so far as to find Arpita a husband - the proposal to the father had me giggling, very comical to imagine! I loved your portrayal of this Aaman I must say . I loved how their father ensured that both his girls would end up happy, he must have known Yash would do his best by Arpita for him to deserve Aarti in his mind. Yet after all that Aarti still hesitated. why? because despite working so hard, and honorably at that, she never really felt acceptance from her mother and sister, she was thus willing to sacrifice her own happiness. I can only thank the heavens that Shoba for once thought to act like a mother, and did not compete with her own daughter, letting her dull her shine just so they won't be uncomfortable! You've probably picked up on my dislike and irritation by now 😡😆. don't worry though, the heart to heart served to redeem them. I also like how you kept it realistic in that the Scindhias were not accepting of Aarti although they were forced to accept her as a bahu, I can imagine the grandkids could finally soften them though...most of all, I loved how they stopped hiding, and chose to love openly because they never had anything to be ashamed about in the first place. So now they could finally heal from it all and be happy ever after! ❤️Well done Honey-Bee, welcome back! 🤗
