CHAPTER 5

THE ARRANGEMENTS START

Aarthi woke up the next morning and the first thing she saw was his picture. He was smiling at her as usual. She knew he was happy that she fulfilled his last wish. She finished her morning routines as she went downstairs to see her family already in the dining table. She went and joined them to see such a heavy breakfast cooked by her mom.

Aarthi:" Maa I think you are so happy nowadays that out of the two burdens you had till now is going to get reduced to one? The breakfast you cooked is the lunch menu in hotels. Already your husband and son have gained a lot of extra pound."

Shobha:" what happened aarthi? Did you drink anything wrong yesterday at the hotel? You are blabbering about some burden and all."

Aarthi:" hmm you can't understand I'm burden number one and burden number 2 is your beta."

Shobha:" oh then you forgot to tell about one big burden I'm handling even before these two burdens." Saying so she signaled at dubey as aarthi and prem laughed loud.

Shobha:" by the way aarthi when did your father and your brother become my husband and my son suddenly."

Aarthi:" hmm yeah I'm going to get married na. Then I would be Aarthi Yash scindhya. That would become my home na."

Shobha:" Hmm siding your husband's home even before marriage. Dubey ji seems we have found a perfect home for our daughter."

Just as everyone were about to continue their conversation they heard a knock at the door. Aarthi got up as shobha signaled aarthi to sit and went to open the door. She was shocked to see Mr and mrs scindhya at their doors in the early hours of the morning. She dint react for few minutes when gayathri shook her to bring her out of her reverie.

Shobha:" oh I'm sorry gayathri ji. I was a little stunned to see you both here at this time. Please do come in."

Suraj prathap scindhya: "we had already told you na when you asked us to have dinner with you that day that we have a whole life time to have dinner together. So today we both have come to have breakfast with you. Do you mind if we join you."

Shobha: "oh not at all. Please come."

Shobha took them to their dining room. On seeing them aarthi and prem took their blessing as they all had dinner together.

Gayathri:" shobha ji you cook really well. I hope you thought aarthi some cooking."

Shobha:" gayathri ji she does cook but only god klnows whether it could be tasted."

On hearing it aarthi made a pouting face and gayathri came for her rescue.

Gayathri:" shobha ji how come you comment my daughter like this. You don't worry aarthi even if you don't know cooking I will teach you. Even for vidhi I only taught her cooking."

Aarthi's family laughed on hearing gayathri's statement as gayathri looked at them confused. Shobha told her about their conversation in the morning and aarthi's statement. Gayathri patted on aarthi's back feeling proud of her. She was the ideal daughter in law she had been searching for many years.

Suraj prathap scindhya:" actually there is a purpose for our visit. Since everything is settled now why don't we get yash and aarthi engaged?"

Sathyendra dubey:" oh yes sure suraj ji."

Gayathri:" actually we have planned to organize this engagement in a grand manner. This is a celebration that is happening in our house after five years. After pankaj and vidhi's marriage and vedhant's birth we didn't have much celebration in our home. What's your opinion dubey ji?"

Sathyendra dubey:" yes sure. This is the first ceremony in our family and that too to our only daughter. We do want to make it grand."

Suraj prathap scindhya:" that's why I have called the astrologer here. He will be here in a few minutes. We can fix the date of the engagement today and start the preparations."

They all completed their breakfast as the astrologer came as expected. After long hours of discussion they fixed up the engagement date on the following week.

Suraj prathap scindhya:" dubey ji I have a request. Can we have the engagement at the scindhya mansions?"

Sathyendra dubey:" but suraj ji it is a custom that it happens in the bride's home."

Gayathri:" that house is also aarthi's house dubey ji. Please let us have it at our place."

Dubey looked at shobha who nodded in acceptance.

Sathyendra dubey:" ok suraj ji we will do as your wish."

Suraj prathap scindhya:" so let us start the preparations dubey ji. We have just a week left."

Sathyendra dubey:" yes sure suraj ji."

Shobha:" gayathri ji we need yash's finger size. We need to buy ring for him na."

Gayathri:" oops sorry I forgot. I had brought it with me. Its yash's ring. we also need aarthi's finger size."

Aarthi immediately took the ring in her index finger and gave it to gayathri. After that gayathri and suraj took leave from there.

Days did move fast and the preparations were taking place on full spring. It was just 3 days left for the engagement. Aarthi was at the balcony looking at the sun setting down on the west changing the sky's complexion dark as someone covered her eyes with their hands. She was very familiar to that touch as she screamed" sunitha!!!" Aarthi turned around to sunitha and aman along with asad and zoya.

Aarthi:" when did you both reach here? You didn't even tell me about it even during our conversation."

Aman:" that was zoya madam's surprise for you. So any questions you have you need to ask her only."

Aarthi:" so zoya may I know where you get this stupendous ideas from. Do you sit in a room and think for it or is it an inbuilt default in you."

Zoya:" how will I know? You need to ask about this to my pati parameshwar, the one and only asad."

The dramatic way in which zoya spoke made them all giggle.

Sunitha:" ok enough of all those. Aarthi come and sit here with me."

Aarthi went and sat next to her while the others settled near them.

Sunitha:" first of all I need to say this aarthi. Aman and I are extremely happy that you moved on from prasanth. You know very well that though moved to Mumbai we were constantly worried about you. Now atlast you came out of your past and you are ready to accept this second chance of life. Zoya and asad told us about how comfortable you are with yash. I hope you both will make a excellent pair"

Aarthi:" sunitha who told you I have moved on from prasanth? I still love him and will love him forever. I can never ever love anyone else than him. How did you even think I will forget him?"

Sunitha:" what do you mean aarthi? Then why are you marrying yash?"

Zoya sensed the conversation getting serious" sunitha first I will tell you everything that had happened in detail. Then you will understand." Zoya then narrated the whole happening due to which aarthi accepted for the marriage."

Aarthi:" sunitha you asked na why I'm marrying yash. I'm marrying him to just relive the moments I spent with prasanth. I don't need anything other from this from yash. I would spend my life seeing my prasanth in him."

Sunitha:" aarthi did you lose your mind? Don't you think you are cheating yash more than that yourself? Whatever reasons you say but the reality is prasanth is no more there in this world. The person you are going to marry is yash. It might be painful but you need to accept it and move on aarthi."

Aarthi:" I'm not cheating yash sunitha. He doesn't wants me to love him. He is more or less in the same state of mine."

Aarthi got up as she took out her drawing book and showed them the sketch of arpitha.

Aarthi:" this is arpitha,Yashji's lover. She is not there with him. He just wants to spend his life with her memories just like I want to with prasanth. That's why I proceeded with this wedding. I'm sorry zoya and asad that I didn't say about this to you as you both might get stressed. I can't say about this to my family too. But I can't hide it from you guys anymore because if secrets arise between us, the friendship we have kept alive for years together might get shattered and I won't let it happen till my last breathe. So, who are all with me?"

Aarthi extended her hands. Zoya and asad sided aarthi but sunitha was not convinced.

Sunitha:" aarthi be practical. I don't know what is yash's and your idea about this marriage. But just tell me doesn't it looks like a fairy tale. A man thinking about his lost love and a woman searching for her lost love in the man she marries. Im a pshycologist aarthi please do consider my words."

Sunitha moved from there and stood in the balcony to relax her stressed out mind. Aman came and stood behind her as he turned her towards him and lifted her face to see small drops of tears threatening to fall from her eyes. He held her face by his palm and wiped her tears with his thumb.

Aman:" sunitha what happened to you? I know you love aarthi a lot that's why you are arguing with her. But just think what our mindset was before a year? We were worried whether aarthi would ever be married in her life. Just think about the prayers we did for her. We thought she have reached a point of no returned. But now all our prayers are answers. A door has been opened in her life. If she doesn't do this marriage, I'm sure she would never ever marry in her life. Did we pray for that sunitha? Has our aarthi ever taken a wrong decision? No na then how would this decision of her be wrong? All we need to do is to remove all the logical reasoning in our minds and support her like we always do. We will continue our prayers for her. Who knows some magic may happen that would change her life forever. What do you say?"

Sunitha understood the reality in her husband's words and joined the other members.

Sunitha:" I'm sorry aarthi. It's my concern for you that made me talk like that. I will always support and respect all decisions of you aarthi."

Saying so sunitha hugged her as aarthi hugged her back and said" should you tell that you care for me? Don't I know whatever you spoke was for my own betterment? You always have the right to tell your views on my decisions and scold me when I do anything wrong. I'm still the same aarthi who sat beside you on the fifth grade."

Zoya knew that they were getting very emotional as she took out her ipad.

Zoya:" excuse me ladies. Please do look at me."

Aarthi and sunitha turned to see zoya as she clicked their picture and showed it to the others.

Zoya:" my dear ladies, you both were very much involved in the melodrama that you both didn't realize that the costly cosmetics you applied in your face are misaligned and you both look like vampires. Think how it would be to post it in facebook. I would get million likes. Asad, we will make this into a photo and paste it in front of our house so that all the evil elements and ghosts will run away seeing this picture thinking that there are uglier ghosts than them."

Aarthi and sunitha tried to take that ipad and delete the photo as zoya hugged it close to her. Aarthi and sunitha started their favorite pillow fight on zoya as asad laughed "I'm very happy that you both are doing the thing that I had never been able to do in my life."

Zoya:" you are gone today Mr. asad. Wait and watch I will put salt in your morning coffee tomorrow and tonight be ready to sleep in the garage tonight."

Asad bit his tongue realizing he has risked his own life by speaking out his mind as the others laughed at asad's animated reaction.

Aman:" if all the things are settled can we go for the dinner. Since aarthi promised me she would make for me paneer butter masala and butter naan I didn't even eat properly for two days. Please aarthi, take these two girls along with you and prepare the dinner na."

Aarthi:" you guys know what I'm the luckiest person in the whole planet. I have one unique lot of people along with me, one woman, who can change the atmosphere with her animated gestures and comment; One woman, who cares a lot for the people around her; One man, who is a fitness freak and one man, who doesn't need anything in the world if you place food in front of him. But the truth is I'm incomplete without even one of you."

When she completed her statement her ultimately crazy gang embraced her in a group hug.

CHAPTER-6

THE DAY HAS COME

The guests had already started arriving at both the houses and the scindhyas had made the best arrangement for the upcoming engagement. It was just a day before the engagement when the doorbell of the dubey's house rang. Shobha opened the door to see her brother's wife kathyayini along with her son subhash and his wife rati. She welcomed them in even after knowing that kathyayini's arrival means none other than the trouble has entered.

Shobha: "bhabhi, bhaiya didn't come with you?"

Kathyayini:" oh he wanted to come but he got struck up with some office work."

Shobha:" oh ok, how was your journey? Was it comfortable?"

Kathyayini:" yes it was comfortable. I was indeed shocked when we came to know that your daughter is getting married."

By that time sathyendra, prem and aarthi had reached the hall. Prem and aarthi took blessing from her.

Kathyayini:" yes indeed I was shocked. Your daughter had gone up to the marriage mandap dressed as a bride just a year ago and her marriage was stopped at the last moment because the groom died on the very same day. Everyone were saying that aarthi was unlucky and all sorts of things. I was thinking that she would be aarthi dubey till the end but at last you found someone. I was about to ask is that guy already married? Or is he a divorcee? Or is he physically handicapped? Anyways I'm very happy for you aarthi. At last the big burden will be down from your parents head. Two years back I came to ask your hand for my son but you were in love with some orphan. Anyways everything went on well my subhash got rati. We are so lucky."

Prem, who was standing there couldn't hold his temper after hearing those words from kathyayini" excuse me mami, don't you think you are crossing your limits? You have come here as a guest and this is aarthi didi's home. How dare you talk about her like this that too in our presence? Till today we tolerated all our words just for siddarth mama. He is really a kind hearted and caring man. I still don't understand why he married a woman like you? We have invited the relatives to share our happiness with them and from the way you talk I can understand you have come here just to create some problems. If you have come for creating problems our home's doors are still open you can leave and what did you say? You came up with a marriage proposal for my didi two years back. As if your son is lord ram. We know how much a rogue your son is. You didn't want to get our didi as bahu. You were behind the huge property that our father gained with his hard work. Do you think we don't know how you and your son trouble rati didi for money? I'm sorry rati didi but your mother in law crossed her limits today. The guy my didi wanted to marry two years back was thousand times better than your son and so is the guy she is going to get married to now."

Aarthi pulled him and asked him to apologize to kathyayini.

Prem:" why should I apologize didi? You saw na how she spoke about you?"

Aarthi:" whatever it is, she is elder to us and she is our mama's wife. If you respect me and our mama you need to apologize to her."

Prem apologized to her half-heartedly and left to his room. The servant then led kathyayini and her family to their room.

Subhash:" maa why were you so quiet when that prem spoke this much ill about us. I thought you will create a big scene there."

Kathyayini:" hare subhash, fighting with that prem is not our main motive. Our main objective is to stop this marriage. I'm just waiting for the right chance to stop this marriage. Don't you remember how that aarthi selected an orphan as her husband over you? That day itself I had decided not to let her live happy. Till we achieve our goal we need to be patient and bear all this."

Subhash:" maa even the shakuni of mahabharath lost in front of you."

Kathyayini:" hare rati what are you looking at? Go and bring something for me and my son. Go fast we are already tired."

Rati entered the kitchen to see aarthi there. She immediately went and hugged her.

Rati:" I'm really sorry aarthi for what my mother in law spoke about you today. You know how happy I was when I heard about your marriage. But I couldn't express it in that house. The guy you are going to marry is very lucky to get a girl like you. Aarthi, by the way be careful with my mother in law and subhash, they are here just to spoil this marriage."

Aarthi:" rati don't worry no one can stop this marriage of mine. It has been a long time since I saw you. How are you? Is everything fine there?"

Rati:" don't you know aarthi? The only person who support me there is my father in law. Anyways life is going on."

Aarthi:" don't worry rati we are always here for you. Everything will get fine. They will soon understand you."

Rati:" now leave those stuffs aarthi. I'm here to witness my aarthi's engagement so no sad stories."

Aarthi:" you are a wonderful woman rati. I know what you are here for? They would have asked for something to drink. So I made it ready for you take it."

Rati:" you are really smart and caring aarthi. Thank you for this help. Ok if I stay long here they would start shouting. I will leave now."

Aarthi:" ok take care. Catch you soon."

The scindhya home was getting all set for the engagement when they heard a familiar voice saying a familiar sentence" mere bhagwan ki kasam." They all saw suraj pratap scindhya's sister maya back from her pilgrimage. She had lost her husband at a very young age and had been living with the scindhyas since then. She was troublesome many a time but suraj's love for his sister made him forgive all her mistakes. But maya had an untold frustration. She thought her brother would get her remarried. She thought he would make her life happy again. But he was scared of the society. He cared for his reputation and maya's dreams were shattered. She accepted it as her fate but her character started to change. She started to taunt the members of the family and started creating troubles in the family. When arpitha left yash, a part of her was sorry for yash's state but another part of her which wanted revenge was content. When she heard about his engagement, she rushed to Bhopal. She knew she couldn't stop the marriage but she could cause some troubles there. On seeing her at home everyone took blessings from her.

Maya:" bhabhi, I was very much surprised when I heard yash is getting engaged. When I was leaving for pilgrimage yash was so much depressed as arpitha left him but within such a short time he got ready for the marriage. Now only I realize that what others say are true nowadays love is like time pass for people."

Suraj saw yash's reaction. He was not even raising his voice against what maya spoke about him. He was very much pleased with his upbringing but he also knew he needs to shut maya's mouth. He wondered whether she ever knew how her words hurted other's feeling.

Suraj prathap scindhya:" maya you forgot it's your time to read Ramayana. Go and read it, it's already late."

Maya gritted her teeth thinking" when someone says something about his son he would immediately come for his rescue. Anyways tomorrow I will see na what kind of girl they have found for that yash" However she smiled outside and left to her room.

Suraj prathap scindhya:" yash I'm very proud of you but if someone speaks ill about you, you need to defend yourself."

Yash looked at his father and nodded. He left to his room. He was very nervous. Was the decision he took to get married right? He knew aarthi was a nice girl but still too he was confused. He looked at arpitha, who was filled all over his room.

Yash:" I don't know why I'm confused arpitha. Aarthi is a wonderful woman. I know because of her nothing is going to change between us. Then why am I so tensed. Please stay with me arpitha and guide me through this."

It was already night and yash slept on his bed. It was a big day for him tomorrow. He wondered whether aarthi felt the same as him. He knew she wouldn't be confused. From the few days he spent with her, he understood she always stood by the decisions she took once. He wished he could talk to her once. He took his phone and selected her number. He was about to call but stopped himself from doing it."

Yash thought" what would she think if I call her at this night time? No I won't call her now. Yash stop being stupid and sleep." Yash closed his eyes as sleep slowly occupied his nervous mind.

Aarthi was standing in front of his picture. He was as usual smiling at her.he took his picture in her hands and sat on the bed.

Aarthi:" tomorrow is a big day for me prasanth. But I'm not nervous because it is a decision of yours. Even the decisions I take for me can go wrong but the decisions you take for me can't go wrong. There are some people like kathyayini mami who want to spoil this marriage but I will marry yashji whatever happens. Give me the strength prasanth. You have always stood behind me. I want you by my side tomorrow prasanth. Stay with me as you always did. I think yashji would be nervous now. I do want to call him but what if he had slept? Anyways I'm going to sleep prasanth. See you tomorrow morning."

Just as she was about to sleep, she heard a knock at the door. She opened the door to see her gang with a music system and mike. Before she could react they were inside the room and asad and aman started to set up the mike and music system.

Aarthi:" may I know what you are all up too?"

Aman:" what's this question yaar? We are doing the same thing you did the night before engagement."

Aarthi:" so you mean we are going to have a karaoke night at my room tonight."

Asad:" of course future Mrs. Yash scindhya."

Aarthi:" where do you get these ideas from?"

Aman giggled:" none other than Mrs. Yash scindhya."

Aarthi:" oh very smart. So what are we waiting for? Start the show. I'm the host. Hi hello namaskar you are watching aarthi's engagement party and this is none other than your all-time favorite and gorgeous aarthi sathyendra dubey and future Mrs.yash scindhya."

This was how it started and then none of them knew when they slept. The morning rays of sun fell on aarthi's face as she woke up with a start. She saw her gang sleeping all around her. She woke them all up and saw them all more excited than her. There were just few hours left for her to get engaged and everything were happening very fast and it was already evening.

Aarthi took her bath and came out to see shobha, sunitha and zoya waiting for her outside with cosmetics, jewels and a costly red saree. She sat in front of the mirror as sunitha, zoya and shobha started their work. When they completed their work, she looked at herself in the mirror. Indeed her mom and friends had made a splendid job. She saw diamonds and gold adorning all parts of her body. She walked up to prasanth's picture and looked at him for some time as memories of past flashed over her mind. Zoya understood aarthi's state as she hugged her while shobha brought the bangles which gayathri gave to aarthi during her first visit. She looked at the bangles and then at prasanth. It was his wish to see her happily married and it was her first step towards making his wish comes true. She took the bangles and wore it looking at him. She started to move to the hall and saw everyone ready. She went and sat on the car which started to move towards the scindhya mansion.

Yash was sitting on his bed and was still confused. He didn't even realize that the time had run and there were just few hours left for him to get engaged. It was pratheek, pankaj and vikram, who brought him out of his reverie. Yash took his bath and came out to see them ready with his costume. They were helping him get ready when pratheek got a call. After completing the call his expression changed. He was looking tensed.

Yash:" what happened prathiek? Is there any problems?"

Pratheek:" nothing bhaiya, just an important work. I need to go urgently. I will be returning soon bhaiya."

Yash:" ok, go carefully and be back soon. I won't get engaged without you there to witness it."

Pratheek nodded his head and left from there. Pankaj and vikram helped yash to get ready and went to look after the other arrangement. Yash started to move here and there in nervousness. As the time started to run his nervousness increased. He looked at arpitha's pictures and tried to find solace in her memories. He remembered the sweet moments he spent with her as a smile involuntarily developed on his face. He got relaxed and it was when he heard the voice from hall" the girl's family has arrived." He got up with a renewed confidence and traced his fingers on arpitha's face and started to move towards the hall. At last the moment has come for which his family has been waiting for. He was going to get engaged.
