Gurmeet Choudhary might have the hottest bod from the television world, but he doesn't believe in anything that's remotely connected to sex, sin and sensuality. "I am a one women man," he confesses. When Hiten J. Trivedi decided to nail him down for most scandalous column, he was taken aback, "Are you sure, you want to feature me?" he questioned, surprisingly, the actor didn't dodge a single question, and emerged triumph after the grill-a-thon. Read what Ram' feels about gays, one night stands and nudity.
Are you ready for wild revelations?
Oh Yes, I absolutely am, Shoot!
Okay, so tell me what dirty things you have done real and reel lives?
Not much ya! In real life, I did whatever I had to during my college days. As for reel life, I did Ramayan and then I played a very romantic, lovable character in Geet. But yes, in my debut film Khamoshiyan, people would get to see me doing a bit of dirty stuff. (Laughs)
But didn't the makers try to convince you to do intimacy on TV for your character Geet?
They did. They said Chalo ye try karte hain, who try karte hain. But television is a family medium. An entire family watches television together. I straight away told them I don't care if somebody else is doing it or not, but I don't want to do it and make it awkward for the audience.
Did you refuse to indulge in intimacy because of the hangover of your playing Ram from Ramayan?
Ramayan, not really. When I was done with Ramayan, I was offered the Character of Geet. I had no hangover of the mythological legend on me. Both characters had a different fan following altogether. Youth got more connected with the Character of Geet. I remember a guy had grown exactly the same type of bread as mine because his girlfriend wanted him to look like me.
But you did do bare body scenes on TV when you played Geet...
When I played Geet, there was an episode where I was seen practicing Tai Chi and had to go bare-body for it. The TRPs of that episode shot up to the skies. Then the channel decided that after every week or two, Gurmeet ko nanga karna hai.' (Laughs) so, I was either shown having shower or practicing Tai Chi or working out in the gym or even romancing my co-actress. Girls went crazy after seeing those episodes.
How comfortable or awkward did you feel while doing the steamy love-making scenes in Khamoshiyan?
It was definitely difficult for me, primarily because I hadn't kissed on screen ever, especially in front of so many people on the sets. The most amazing part of it was that Debina (wife) called me before I was about to do the kissing scene and asked me to not get nervous. Which wife does that? She knew I was scared and nervous, so she told me not to make Sapna (Pabbi) nervous and feel awkward.
So, now that your wife has green-signalled kissing scenes, will it be easier for you to do it in future films, considering the moral baggage won't hound you anymore?
Actually in today's time, kissing scenes have become a norm in Hindi films. We get to see actors indulging in intimacy in every second or third films. I haven't made any resolution that I won't do any film that has kissing scene or I will only do films that have kissing scenes. If i am convinced then I won't mind doing it. I wouldn't cringe if I am required to kiss on screen.
Were you apprehensive initially about doing the film primarily because of the sexual content in it?
No, because we all knew it way before starting the film. Bhatt Sahab had told us that it would be a romantic, erotic musical film. I love to experiment with characters and do something new every time, something that people have not seen me doing in the past. I did Ramayan when actors of my age used to run away from playing mythological characters because they used to be scared of getting typecast. I accepted the challenge and later got the offer to play a romantic character in Geet, which was even more loved then Ram. And Now, I did a film like Khamoshiyan.
The Bhatts gave the industry its first serial kisser in Emraan Hashmi. You think you've replaced him?
Ha ha ha! I don't know. You will have to ask Bhatt Sahab. They haven't told me anything like that. Today, many people ask me if I am the next Emraan Hashmi but I cannot replace him. I want the audience to remember me for my own individual style and not as a replica of Emraan.
If you agreed to a nude scene in a film, would you strip naked in front of the entire unit, or would you ask for a bare minimum crew to be present?
Nude!! I am not sure if I would be able to go nude for any film. I am an extremely shy guy. I hope I am never offered something on those lines.
What if you offered a Character like PK? Would you still say no or you would be comfortable doing it if the film demands you to go naked?
Well in that case, I would do it, but I would definitely want a transistor or a guitar in the front. (Laughs)
Which Director would you not mind doing intimate sex scenes for?
Rajkumar Hirani!
Some high hopes I must say! You think he would ever include sex scene in his films?
(Laughs) The reason I mentioned his name is because he's the only director I know who would include a sex scene in his film only if it's an absolute necessity of the script. You can be rest assured that if he has included a sex scene, that must be because the script demands it, and for no other reason.
Assuming you did do a nude scene or kissing or erotic scene, how comfortable would you be watching that film with your family?
Forget about a hypothetical situation, but I didn't even see Khamoshiyan with my family. I am not comfortable watching such stuff with my family around. If it's just me and debina, I don't mind, but not if my parents are around. I never allowed them to even come to the sets of my film even though it was my first film.
People like Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and John Abraham have become gay icons. Do you crave for such titles?
I don't crave for such titles but I would love to have one. Why not? I definitely won't mind being given the title of a gay icon. Gay community loves me. I don't mind being called a gay icon.
What's your take on one-night stands?
I've heard a lot of people talking about it, but I don't know if it's for real or a fantasy of people to begin with. May be there are people who do it, but I'm not comfortable with one night stands. How can you just have sex with someone you don't even know?
Do you think sex is the most important ingredient that completes a long-standing relationship?
Of course it is. Sex can help you come closer to your partner. Sex is one of the important factors, but after a point, and at a certain age, the excitement mellows and even dies down. That's when love and compatibility keep the relationship going. Emotional bonding is extremely necessary.
In a interview, Arunoday Singh said that the first thing he notices in a woman are her breasts. What is the first thing you notice when you meet or see a woman?
Ha ha ha! Honestly speaking, it's the eyes. For me, the most beautiful things in any girl are her eyes.
What is it about a women that draws your attention, beauty or brains?
Brains... anytime! How long can beauty excite you? A brainless beauty doesn't excite me! A blonde can never turn me on! (Laughs)
Is dressing provocatively by woman reason enough for a man to think derogatorily of her?
Ye soch hi mujhe badi gandi lagti hai! Why should she be looked at derogatorily? If a women wants to wear shorts and if she is absolutely comfortable in it, who are we to think anything about her? The only thing I feel women need to do is dress according to their body type. Every dress doesn't suit every woman. If you have a good body and confidence to carry any outfit, then go ahead and wear it.
What if you were the only male contestant in Big Boss House? Which actresses or female contestant would you want to locked in with?
Deepika Padukone! I love her! (Laughs) Also I love Rani Mukerji. I love her eyes.
Has any family member ever caught you watching po*n?
Oh yes! My dad caught me once. It was being played on cable TV itself. The television in my room used to be right next to the entrance door. One day when he was about to enter my room, I pressed the switch off button on the remote and pretend to sleep. Dad came in, and left after a few seconds. After he left, I immediately woke up and to my horror, the TV was still on. I haven't pressed the off button properly. (Laughs)
When was the last time you lusted after a woman?
When I saw Deepika Padukone!
Woody Allen said, "Most men have sex most of the time on their minds which is unfortunately the wrong place to have it." Do you think he is right in his statement?
Yes, to an extent. We all go through that age and time in our life when we know what sex is all about, we read about it, see pictures in po*n magazines, watch it on TV, but haven't ever got to do it and experience it. Once you get it and do it on a regular basis then it keeps getting out of your system at regular intervals. Then obviously, you don't have it on your mind all the time.
What kind of lover are you - hard and sleazy, soft and surprising or wild and funny?
Undoubtedly wild and funny!
One actress you fantasize about and would give anything to get erotic with on screen?
You know my answer by now! There are two - Deepika and Rani!
One Bollywood actress you would not mind having bedroom scenes with, of course on screen?
Jacqueline Fernandez! Actually, I wouldn't mind having bedroom scene with every actress I work with, why just one? I would love to do such scenes with every actress. That way nobody would feel left out. (Laughs)
Do you feel that our film industry has a lot to do with influencing the audience about homosexuality?
The film industry does influence people about many things. But I don't think it's the case with homosexuality because we have hardly made any films on homosexuals and homosexuality. So, there is no question of influencing the audience about that.
Do you think infidelity is not considered a stigma or taboo in our society anymore? Has that resulted in increased rates of divorce in India?
I don't think it's a taboo any more in our society or our country. We have been hearing stories about cheating since so many years, it's become very common these days. And yes, it is a major reason for divorces in any country, not only in India. A person indulges in infidelity because there is no speaking left in the relationship, the love is dying and the compatibility is fading out. And that means that they are on their way to get divorced.
Recently, Hrithik-Sussanne and Anurag Kashyap-Kalki Koechlin got divorced. Do celebrities go through a lot of complications during divorce?
Ofcourse yes, see whether a celebrity or not, privacy is something that matters for everyone. In case of non-celebs, nothing is out in the media for people to see and read about. There isn't a big Tamasha made out of somebody's life or divorce. It's obviously very difficult and more traumatic for celebrities to go through divorce because it's talked about by the whole world.
