How are we supposed to enjoy Aarti bonding with PayPal now? How are we supposed to enjoy Yash bonding with Ansh without feeling guilt by proxy that we know something he doesn't? What have they done?
And yet it is interesting in a way. Now Yash and Aarti are on an even playing field, with no family really influencing their decisions. Yash was manipulated by Bua but he signed those divorce papers by choice, clearly stating that this marriage means less to him than Arpita's memory. Before that, it was the family that was reinforcing that with the name change and the kangan. But at that moment Yash made that assertion. Today Aarti took over the lie that had been told by her parents. She has taken the fault entirely on herself. So even though her decision was a crap fest and I hate the universe right now, it is pretty clever, because the relationship has moved to a new stage where all the problems have compounded around these two individuals. They have internalised and adopted the wrongs of their parents and they have to sort it out now, without blaming anybody or dragging anyone into the mix.
You know what is ironic? Aarti says there is no more jhoot in her and Yash's relationship now but actually that is not the case because leaving aside the divorce/widow thing, Yash believes her to be as in love with her previous partner as he is with hers. And that is not true. Yash at least deserves to know that! This makes me wonder if the second promo has even played out yet.
I think what bothered me most was the fact that Aarti decided never to tell Yash, rather than vowing to find a better time. That would have been an answer that would have pleased both the 'yes' and 'no' voters. Now they have completely compromised her character, though it will be interesting to see how they resurrect her when her self-righteous castle comes tumbling down.
It is interesting to see though that Aarti has gone back into her default saint-martyr mode that she had before she committed to this marriage. If Shobha likes to play god, Aarti likes to play martyr. If I take away the feeling of being cheated by the gimmick, then I realise that this is good storytelling. Aarti is going around in circles, with only a little progress to her character at each step. First she was a martyr at the altar of Prashant, then at the altar of Ansh and now at the altar of Yash and the Scindias. And I guess the heroism they portrayed was through her own eyes. Silly girl! She has so much growing up to do!
As much as I hated M/Gaya at face value, there was some depth to their scenes. They brought back the weirdly true dialogues from them, doubting Aarti's character, but inadvertently speaking the truth. It probably was Prashant on the phone and so they weren't off base. I felt bad that Vidhi showed so much faith in Aarti, because she is going to be proven wrong partially. I agree that Aarti is not "that type" of girl, but she is lying now and when Vidhi finds out she went against her in laws for a woman who deceived them all, she is not going to be happy!
We have been talking so much about Arpita lately that it was sort of a jolt to hear Gayatri talking about her. She was so fond and tearful and showed such ownership, calling her "meri Arpita bahu" but I wonder if she was so fond when she was alive... simply because Vidhi says she has always been a terror. But today we heard Gaya's three requirements for a perfect bahu: she must be of cheerful disposition, she must serve everyone in the house with her whole heart and she must keep Yash (her son) happy. But I saw a glimmer of hope because almost without meaning to, she gives Aarti the chance to prove herself and that is a step forward.
The comparison between Yash and Prashant was unnecessary. We already knew that. But I thought it was cute (before the tragedy befell us) that she put her mouth on his water bottle. They say "kisi ki jhoota khana ya peene se pyaar badta hain" I think Aarti mistook the meaning a little there, though. 😕
The praying bit was totally silly. What was that about? I guess it showed that Aarti made the decision when all their eyes were closed. She is taking advantage of their innocence to clear her own conscience. I am so mad at her today! 😡
