ok, abhy is talking abt this ceremony - or a ritual more like - in khsatriya and bramin boys. normally done before they leave for gurukul.

abhy that time has loooong gone. 😆 Its been ages since he has left gurukul.

hey kai upnayan thred is a therd which boys (as chaitra said nowadays only brahmin boys)have to wear after doing some kind of vidhi (pooja) and in those days boys can go in to gurukul after doing this vidhi and they can do any kind of pooja and all only if they have wear this thread

If u have seen Ramayan then they have shown that after doing upnayan sanskar all four rajkumar goto gurukul to learn

ok kai and kiran i'll try to explain to the best of my knowledge....thread ceremony is done to guys when they grow up to certain age...its only after this ceremony they are considered as bramhacharis (bachelors)...its after this ceremony they are sent to gurukuls for studies and all..
when the ceremony is done a thread will be put around them...without that they cannot go for studies ...infact they will be considered as kids without that...ok??? 😉

One more thing is,after upanayan,you are a proper brahmin(don't know about Kshatriya).till then u are just another human being with no caste restrictions or boundings.let's say,after upanayan you accept your caste,and show it by wearing a thread ,so u are eligible for education according to ur caste(well this was in those days)😉😉

hey thanks everyone for the explanation.

btw during upanayan boys must also shave off their heads. the ritual existed in the time of ramayan and even exists now.
