The important thing is that, we don't know Prithviraj Chauhan's true story & as there are many different versions, we can't really claim one as the true story. So, we can't say that the true story is being manipulated.
To me it's a great fictional story of a warrior King, who was extremely brave, courageous, a true hero in all senses.....& which encourages me in many ways.
After all, it's a drama serial not a documentary/biography, so, as per the highlights of his life, makers have to make a simple and enjoyable - dramatized presentation. And, bottom line is - majority of the viewers are enjoying it.
Now, about Prithvi & sanyogita marrying at a very young age - sounds quite convincing to me .... as my grand parents got married when 14/16. So, few decades ago it was a common thing, PRC-Sanyogita story is from 12th Century!
Teens getting affected by seeing RT & MC doing the Swayambar must not forget that it's a story of 12th Century!!!! ....and can't be compared with the present time!
I think, as RT & MC are able to portray the characters so realistically so far, the serial can be justified only if RT & MC do the swayambar.
But, I am ready to accept the change if that's what is the necessary decision of Sagars.....common, it's just a serial.
