No shruthi, according to Prithviraj raso n Prithviraj vijay, he had only one wife n that was sanyogitha. 😳 These two books were written at the time of prithvi so it is reliable. Moreover, the rajput kings usually had only one wife during those days.
Only after those muslim rulers came to india, it became a fashion to have more than one wife. And the book which says he had seven wives was Prithviraj ke abhyan. As i said this book was written during the muslim rule during which those stupid kings made it a fashion to have more than one wife. 😡

i would like to correct you on just one front, it may have become more common to marry many wives after the muslim rulers came into India, but this custom was not entirely absent before they came in either!
During the bronze age, or the age of the Ramayana (long before 1100 AD) King Dasharath had three wives. Now I know its difficult to dwelve into history to prove this point. However, this serial Prithvi Raj Chauhan is entirely based only upon the poems written by Chand Bardai. He wrote this in praise of his king. I would say the poetic versions are definitelty a more glorified picture. Current historians have a different picture to paint according to what happened at that time. Infact there was an uproar a couple of years back when they wanted to change the facts about PRC in CBSE textbooks!
Anyway, I dont want to go deep into facts etc.. but I would not think it uncommon for PRC to have had 7 wives at all. It is however said that sanyogita (otherwise known as padmavati) was his favourite and last wife.
However, I am only attracted to the story of PRC written in the Raso and considering it a lovely folklore would love to see the serial and what happens henceforth...Just like how the bhagwat - stories of Krishna are not entirely what would have transpired in those days and a lot of praise/glory/incidents are added by poets and writers in praise of their Lords/masters as time passes by. (A simple example of this is that there are so many versions of Ramayan belonging to different states/languages and all of them are different)
However, we still enjoy seeing the movies and stories of Lord Krishna/Ram today and thats how Prithviraso would be too!
