'Meri bari kab ayegi,' asks Angad

Wonder when newcomer Angad Bedi (son of cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi) will get to play his role in the mega-hit Prithviraj Chauhan — Darti ka Veer Yodha as the adult Prithiviraj Chauhan. Chocolate boy Rajat Tokas, currently playing the title role of Prithviraj Chauhan, is a super hit with the viewers, hence his role is being extended even further.

Angad made headline news after being chosen to play the title character of Prithviraj Chauhan in the serial. It's been almost 10 months from the launch and Angad is still waiting for his turn to face the camera.

Rumour is that the production house is hesitant to make the change now as Rajat has proved to be a big hit as the young Prithviraj. They don't want to take the risk of introducing another character. So poor Angad has been left high and dry. He can't even commit to any other serial because he maybe called to report for shooting any time.

Audience love Rajat as Prithvi

By Sneha Hazarika
Rajat Tokas, the teenager who plays the title role in Prithviraj Chauhan has become an overnight star with a huge fan following. His track in the weekend show has been extended indefinitely and this means Angad Bedi, the man signed to play the grown up Prithviraj Chauhan has to wait much longer than expected.

Rajat is delighted with the response. "It feels great to know that people like me. I am just 16 years old. It's an honour when I am told that all over the world people are watching the show," he beams.

This is not his first brush with acting though. Rajat always had plans of becoming an actor. "Before this, I had played the role of Sai Baba's brother's character in Sai Baba. They liked my acting and then I was offered the role of Prithviraj Chauhan. I enjoy acting, wanted to pursue it seriously and I am happy everything has shaped up well," he says.

But did he expect this kind of popularity? "No, it has come as a pleasant surprise. I gave it my best shot though," he quips.

Rajat also maintains that he is having the time of his life because of the show. "Playing the character has been like the experience of a lifetime. I have learnt and absorbed a lot. What I love most are the action sequences. Once I jumped from over 20 feet ," he says excitedly.

Rajat has a great time with all the young actors on the sets. "The boys who play Arjun, Chander and Sanjam are my good friends. Harsh who plays Pundir belongs to the original Chauhan family. Interestingly, my first crush was Mohini — one of the characters in the show. The girls who play Jwala and Sayongita have lots of fun fights with me off screen," he reveals.

How does Rajat manage his studies, considering he is busy shooting most of the time?

"I am studying through correspondence. I haven't been to school since the last six months. I make sure I study during the shots," he explains. Rajat who has actually grown long hair to fit the role of the young royal, has interests most normal teenagers have. "I love football, swimming and horse riding. I am happy I have a lot of horse riding to do in the show," he says.

At 16 Rajat has his goals set. "I will continue with my studies. I want to study performing arts. I don't mind doing films or serials, the role has to be as good as Prithiviraj Chauhan. Hrithik Roshan is my role model as he is very good in action, dance and everything that a hero needs to have. I would one day like to become like him," he gushes.

Rajat of course doesn't have the answer to the million dollar question (how long his track will be continued in the show)! "I really don't know. All I can say is that please watch me as long as I am there!"

Angad Bedi hopes Prithviraj Chauhan grows up soon

It's been nine months since Prithviraj Chauhan first aired on STAR Plus last May but Angad Bedi is still waiting to shoot for his title role.

The former cookery show host (and spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi's son) was slated to play the adult Prithviraj but has been left in the lurch as Rajat Tokas's (present Prithviraj) popularity soars.

"They plan on using the little boy for some time because the TRPs are really high with him. That's television and that's how it is. When something is doing well you make the most out of it.", says a resigned Angad.

The series was said to be divided into five phases, which trace the life of warrior King Prithviraj Chauhan from birth to death. Angad however does not know at which stage he will come in: "I have nothing to do with "Prithviraj Chavhan" at the moment. I've not even begun shooting. I have no clue as to when I will be introduced in the show."

The actor is not whiling away his time in the event of "Prithviraj Chauhan" not materializing. Although he has not received any "proper television offers" he is very interested in breaking into Bollywood.

He says, "Right now I am working on other projects. I want to enter into commercial cinema. There are plans in the pipeline but I can't speak about them. In a month's time everything will be definite."

Angad has hosted Karen Anand's cookery show Cook Na Kaho on STAR One and has previously acted in Sashi Kumar's art house film "Kaya Taran" (2004)
