The Chauhans
They are usually referred as the Chauhans of Ajmer and Delhi. The Chauhan dynasty had been founded around the 8th centuary. In the 11th centuary, thier king Ajay Deva conquered Ajmer and another ruler Visaldeva conquered Delhi. Prithviraj Chauhan was thier greatest ruler. In 1191, he had defeated Muhammad Ghori in the first Battle in Tarrain. Later Muhammad Ghori returned again in A.D.1192. This event in the history is known as Second Battle of Tarrain and is regarded as very important in the history of India. Prithviraj was defeated and killed by Ghori and Ajmer and Delhi passed into the hands of Muslim invaers. This was not only a great blow to Rajput power but also changed the course of India's history. Chand Bardai, the famous court poet of Prithviraj is best known for his poem 'Prithviraj Raso'. Though Prithviraj was married to Samyukta, daugther of Jai Chand Rathor of Kanauj, there was great rivalry between the two kingdoms. Both of them fell to turkish invader, Ghori.
