CHAUHANS OF AJMER
THE founder of the Chauhan(or Chahamana) dynasty was Singhraja. Their first important ruler was Visaldeo[1153-1164]. He captured Delhi from Tomaras who had built Dhilika[Delhi] in 736.PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN III
[1179-1192] WAS THEIR MOST FAMOUS RULER.PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN defeated MOhammad Ghori in the first battle of Tarain[1192].PRITHVIRAJ was defeated and later killed.PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN'S court poet , Chandarbhai ,became famous for his epic poem PRITHVIRAJ-RASO , an excellent narration of the events during the reign of PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN.
THE RIVAL
Mohammad Ghori,invaded India to extend his empire and not nerely to plunder his wealth.By 1190,he occupied Peshawar,lahore and Sialkot.He wanted to conquer the gangatic plains.AT this time,PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN III of AJMER and Delhi emerged to be the most powerful Rajput ruler of the north.
THE DEFEAT
BATTLES OF TARAIN.In 1191,the two met on battlefield of Tarain ,a place close to delhi. Mohammad was defeated and he returned to Ghor.He reorganised his forces and launched another attack in 1192.In second battle of tarain PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN was defeated and killed .WITh this Mohammad Ghori took the control of DELHI and AJMER.
the reason of defeat of the most powerful most brave and the most kind ruler was Jaichand ,the ruler of Kanauj,didnot extend help to PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN as their was enemity between the two empires.Later on JAichand was also defeated by him.
