There are no set rules or a set formula for a hit show or what will garner TRPs
We all can only speculate and discuss among ourselves reasons for lower TRPs...whether it is time slot or weekend slot or lack of promotions or show lacking in certain areas or same way the possibility that people might find a grey female lead and a timid male lead a little hard to digest..There is no certain way to be sure about what specifically is working in or against the show.
All of these are speculated reasons including the idea that people might find a grey strong female lead hard to digest..that is also a speculated reason that was discussed..and how Mrinal was bashed on Twitter was a part of that discussion..how new content , something out of the box is often not accepted by TRP audience and quality content often gets lower TRPs
Absolutely social networking sites can never be used to judge what the majority's preference is..in fact I had said the same thing earlier as well.
A lot of research goes into finding out the reasons for a particular show's failure both by the channel as well as the makers
Now coming to lack of promotions for the show...I am not at all sure how the channels plan their marketing and promotional strategy for a show
I will share what I have noticed...I have noticed that once a high budget show doesn't garner the TRPs expected by the channel and as soon as their is a gradual decrease in it's TPRs channel rather than promoting it often stops the promotions and repeat telecasts...we are not supposed to take names of other shows here but I would like to give an example...rival channel had 2 finite series..one of them was popular among youth while other was directed by a well known movie director and went on to win many international shows and was an official remake of a hit international series...both are high on content...both were expensive shows but soon after a the first 2-3 weeks of airing channel stopped promoting them...channel had hoped for higher TRPs as both were expensive shows but coz thst did not happen so channel stopped promoting them and even pushed them to a later time slot
Same happened with another Sony show which recently went off air..it was an expensive show and was made by a very good production house..After first Few Weeks As The TRPs Showed A gradual Decrease Channel Instead OF promoting it They StOpped The Promotions Completely
So, This Is trend thst I Have Noticed...If An Expensive Show Doesn't garner TRPs then Instead Of Stopping The Promotions They should Promote It More.
Not Sure How This Promotional Strategy Works...So we can't even Be Sure If lack Of Promotions Is The Only Cause Of Low TRPs
There can be many reasons For Low TRPs And We CaN Only Speculate.
But Channel Needs To Start PromotIng Or Maybe Change The Slot..Or At Least Try SomethIng To Increase TRPs
