I assumed that Mona's uncle (thaiyaji) would be shown as a drunkard and useless person and her father the smart one, but it seems to be the opposite now.

Exactly !! I was thinking the same. There seems to be a role reversal. All of a sudden Gurnaam is shown to be so caring and concerned towards his niece, when he didnt give a damn about his own daughter's wedding. He was drinking to glory and never cared about their reputation or his wife/daughter's feelings. He was a useless fellow.
And Satnam was so loving towards his wife and daughter and he changed overnight !!

I guess they want the audience to feel sorry for Mona and they made her dad the scapegoat :) If she had such a protective, caring father, then there wont be any room for drama...he would've got his daughter married to the guy she truly loved.

I'm happy that someone is looking out for her best interest. She and her uncle have always had a special bond it seems. They understand each other it seems.

Gurnam always shared a sweet bond with Mona, as she understood him the most in the family. But ya it's weird that all of sudden he doesn't drink anymore and sv06 agree with you they have made Mona's father scapegoat in this process.

no yaar.. gurnaam always loved mona more than anything cuz she understood him the most..they had that bond and now he wants to help her cuz i think they showed an epi mona told him that he needs to stop drinking and he said he'd try or something... as for her father.. he's not wrong in the sense of a mid-eastern father.. u no when i was younger my cousin from canada held ali zafar's hand.. her mom freaked(she's mid-eastern)!! so as a joke she said oMG MOM.. HE held my hand so now he has to marry me.!! and her mom agreed! so for mideasterns this is a bad sign, that their girl is TALKING let alone HANDING OUT WITH a guy! i dont agree but i can understand his view..
