Chapter 42
Rolli flicked through the pages of the menu deciding what she should order. Deciding on one item she looked up to search for their waiter but instead her eyes found angad standing alongside his mom and a girl who probably was his sis. She looked down again. She couldn't get caught here by angad. But angad had already seen her, and was making his way to her. she tried looking around thinking "plz don't let him come back till anagd leaves". Komal was following angad with a amused expression, she knew this was rolli.
A: hey rolli. Whatcha doing all alone here?
R: plz go now. Hurry.
A: why what happened?
Ko: yea rolli. Are you here with another boyfriend or something?
R: no its just that…..oh shit go fast hes coming.
A(joking): who your boyfriend?
R: no…..(biting her tongue)
Angad felt a hand on his shoulder and he turned to see who it was. Komal seeing the man lost her grounds and opened her mouth it shock. Angad shoved the hand off his shoulder "who are you?". komal then recovering her senses blabbered "good evening sir". Angad turned in surprise.
A: you know this person?
Ko: hes…hes my….my maths teacher Krishna sir.
Krishna looked in surprise at first then answered komal " good evening"
A: so dude you're her maths teacher?
Ko: yes.
A: you are in serious trouble. If you dare trouble my komal again, you…….
R: urm…angad this is my dad.
A: WHAT???? (dumbstruck)
K: you both know each other?
R: yes dad. He is in my class
K: okay. And whats your story komal?
Ko: my story?
K: yes…..hw do you and this guy here relate?
Ko: hes ….hes my elder brother.
K: okay. What a meeting. I hope young man your parents are here. I would like a word with them. Seeing you both brother sister have no control on their words as well as no respect for others.
Ko(scared): sir I told you sorry this morning. I wont repeat it again.
R: dad. Forget it.
K: no rolli. This is serious. I wonder how their parents will be who have such ill-behaved children. And komal I'm not going to complain about you. so don't worry.
A: listen I'm sorry. I was rude and I should have not been. Ok cool between us.
K: no not cool. I still want to speak to your parents.
Ko: sir I was apologizing on his behalf.
A: ya lets settle the matter here.
K: hmmm.
Anagad caught komal's hand and led her away. Rolli pulled krishna's sleeve and made him sit. She was almost at the verge of a panic attack. Her boyfriends first impression was ruined. Her dad will never accept him now. Angad went and sat down on their table while pratigya looked up from the menu.
P: anything wrong?
Ko: yes…..
A: no nothing. Lets eat.
As they left the restaurant, anagd kept looking at the other end to see if rolli and her dad were still there but they seemed to be no where around. Relieved that they had left, he went home.
Next day, pratigya was as usual around the house finishing her household chores when her phone rang. She picked it up and heard a voice which caught a sense of recognition " hello can I speak to Mrs. Mathur:"
P: speaking. Whose this?
"this is komal's teacher and I would like to speak to you about your children's behaviour"
P: see I'm sorry for whatever komal did. She has been a bit upset since her father's death.
"its not only komal but your elder son too. I met him at the restaurant yesterday and I'm very sorry to say both your children are quite mis-behaved"
P: I'm really sorry. I'll speak to angad about it. btw I didn't seem to catch your name?
K: its Krishna singh. I'm komal's maths teacher.
Pratigya dropped the phone from her hand in shock and the line got cut.
Rolli was yelling at angad for his mis-conduct.
A: but I didn't know he was your dad.
R: but still why did you have to be so rude. Oh my god if my dad finds out about us?
A: calm down rolli. We'll see when it happens. Don't get hyper before it.
R: but angad how can you be so calm. Its like you don't care about me only.
A: oh plz for goodness sake don't do all this girly drama of crying
R: you don't care for me only. Fine I'll go away. Bye
A: bye. Astala vista baby
Rolli stormed off in anger.
Pratigya was rocking too and fro on her bed. She could still hear krishna's voice booming in her ears. She had after all these years spoken to him. he was komaal"s teacher. What if he finds out about her? what will happen then. how will the children react. She was so confused. She had to go to him. she had to speak to him before its too late. She had to tell him to stay away from her life. she sat up, she had to meet him before its too late.
Krishna was reviewing the paper he had set for the final exam when his bell rang. He opened the door quickly thinking it was rolli and went back to the table. He didn't see who walked in and shut the door.
K: rolli dear the food is on the table have it.
P: I'm not rolli
Krishna looked up and was shocked to see none other than pratigya standing before him. there was no change in her except the faded colour sari. He felt he had gone back in time and they both were back in that house of Allahabad.

Awakening from his dream he uttered,
K: pratigya !!!!
P: yes me. I wanted to talk to you.
K: come in. sit ….where ever. I don't believe it. your really here
P: I am not. I had to speak to you. it was necessary
K: where did you get my address?
P: sajjan singh, principal of komal's school
K: komal…u know her?
P: I'm komal's mom. You spoke to me only today morning.
K(shocked): really. I didn't know komal was yr *biting his tongue*
P: it doesn't matter. I need to talk something important.
Krishna comes forward and takes her hand in his. He was staring into her eyes, with tiny beads of tears present in his. At first she gets mesmerized in his but then pulls away and turns so that she doesn't face him. she then continues.
P: I am a mother of 2 children now. Its too late to even to…..oh forget it. I need you to stay away from me. I don't want 21 year old story to come out in any circumstances. I can let my children know about u know all that.
K: but pratigya…..
P: I request you to stay away from me and even if we have to meet under some unavoidable circumstances treat me like a stranger.
K: see I didn't mean to hurt you….
P: I don't want to listen to any of your excuses. This is what I had to say. Thank you for listening.
She headed to the door while Krishna came running behind her calling out her name. pratigya paying no heed to his cries just walks. As she reaches the door, just before she could turn the handle the doorbell rings. Pratigya stops. Krishna comes and peeps into the peep-hole. He then catches pratigya's hand and leads her in showing a 'keep quiet" sign with his other hand. He pushes her into one of the rooms and shuts the door. Pratigya realizes she is in his room. She looks around at every item there but one of them in particular. It was a silver frame with glass flowers decorated on it. the photo in it was off Krishna with 2 young girls. One of them she recognized as rolli. Outside she could hear voices. A girl was yelling about her car and some silly drunk causing a dent. She wanted to open the door and peep out but she knew that wouldn't be wise. She just picked up the frame and looked at it. it was the same Krishna she had known only now he had a few grey hairs as well as specs. He looked more older and surprisingly wiser. She smiled remembering how he use to look in his younger days. If it wasn't for the mafia look on his face she had been quite handsome. He even had eyes which looked so soft that you could drown in them. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't hear him enter.
K: rolli had come back. Some drunk guy crashed his bike into her car and caused her dent. She was furious about it.
P: huh wat? Oh sorry I wasn't listening.
K: never mind. What were you looking at?
P: this picture. Whose the other girl with rolli? Your wife?
K: no heavens no. there has been no other women in my life except you. that's anjali remember? Angad's daughter.
P: oh yaa….anjali. she was sick right? Something wrong with her…what was it?
K: her bone marrow. She needed a replacement.
P: oh yes. So what happened.
K: if anjali is alive then it means I got a replacement right?
P; yes. Then rolli? If you didn't get married then ……
K: how is rolli my daughter? Shes the child, whose bone marrow seemed to fit anajali's requirements. I adopted rolli so I could get her bone marrow transplanted in anjali. Rolli's parents were dead.
P: oh!
K: that reminds me. why did you name your son after angad? You hated him right?
P: I didn't my husband did.
K: ok.
P: I need to leave now.
K: pratigya you just came. Atleast have lunch and go.
P: no thank you.
She left the room and headed out of the house. Krishna didn't stop her this time. He knew she wouldn't stop, she was just too upset. He decided that she was right. For the children's sake the truth should remain buried for good. Even if it would kill him to act as a stranger to her he would do it. for her sake.
On the other end, fate had something else planned. Komal was ransacking pratigya's cupboard searching for a particular shade of lipstick. As she messed around her hands fell on a box. Pulling the box out she thought this was the box where her mother kept her lipsticks and opened it. it didn't contain lipsticks but lots of old papers. Papers which should have never come in komal's hands.
Precap: komal waved the papers near her mother's face in anger. Pratigya took them in her hands to see what it was. Her eyes widened in shock. 😲😲😲
