Chapter 5:

Pratigya had got the bus home; she was almost in tears having had to return the gown. She really loved the dress and now regretted her decision of even trying it once coz now she wanted it even more. The bus stop came and she got down and slowly proceeded towards her home. There was no use sulking so she brought a smile on her face and entered. Lunch was ready and the women of the house sat together to have their food. Aarushi wanted to know why Samira had called Pratigya. Obviously, Pratigya had to lie. She had promised Samira to keep this a secret from everybody, even her family, n Pratigya stood by her promise. Naina n dadi1 went for their afternoon nap, cable connection was back and both the girls sat to watch the repeat telecast of the IIFA awards. Pratigya saw gowns being adorned by the actresses and she told Aarushi about the black gown.

A: are, to aapne khareeda kyu nahi?

P: paagal ho gai ho kya? Tumhe bataya tha na, t-shirt ki baat pe dadi kitna bhadak gai thi, gown khareed k laati, to dadi gown ander rakh kar mujhe ghar se nikal deti!

Aarushi couldn't help but laugh at the joke and tried to imagine dadi trying out the gown instead. They resumed watching the award function, Aarushi went mad watching her Sallu perform while Pratigya waited for Hrithik Roshan. The moment Hrithik appeared on stage; dadi woke up and asked Pratigya to make tea for her!

Aarushi volunteered but dadi said, 'are iske saath tum bhi iske sasural jaogi kya? Jab iski saas chai mangegi, to ise hi apna saara kaam chod k, chai banana padegi, samjhi? Pratigya, ab jao aur hamare liye chai bana k lao. Waise bhi hume tumhari banai hui chai hi achchi lagti hai, beti'

Pratigya being the eldest child had always had to sacrifice. She had to be the good child coz like Naina used to tell her, her siblings looked at her for inspiration. And if Pratigya didn't present a good example then even Aadarsh n Aarushi would turn out to behave like her... She went in the kitchen to prepare tea and looked longingly towards the living room. She wished it was a portable TV! She made tea ASAP but when she returned, the performance was over! Aarushi looked at Pratigya sadly and silently wished Hrithik had danced first instead of her Sallu' but Pratigya kept quiet, she had learnt to keep quiet and not question the decision of her elders even if it hurt her.

Evening came and the Prof and Aadarsh returned home. Both the girls rushed to their father who still used to bring each of them a sweet every day he came back from the University. Tonight he brought them Cadbury. Aarushi ran with her Cadbury and started breaking them in 5 equal pieces. Pratigya didn't like to share her Cadbury but instead she took Aadarsh's bag and brought them a glass of water each! Pratigya had forgotten the gown and Hrithik's performance while the family happily ate the Cadbury. She was not aware that there was someone, sitting at his adda without having food or water, waiting to know her name, someone who would be 'her' Greek god!
