Good morning, afternoon, night to all members of Pratigya's forum! 😊 The previous threads have shown a division in this forum. Just like a battle-field, individuals are constantly fighting with one another in order to prove each other wrong. So please, refrain from verbally abusing each other as no one has the right to do so. Do not promote physical violence please! There are many young members in this forum that may get easily influenced by such threads.
Anyway back to my initial motive of opening up this thread. I find it highly interesting to analyze specific characters and their behaviors because it gives me an insight to their inner mentality. Although in no ways am I supporting Krishna's actions nor defending Pratigya. I am merely providing a psychological aspect to why Krishna behaves the way he does. So please do provide your own input and analysis but do be polite. This post is not to initiate war, it is merely just a character discussion!
Social development in childhood
Krishna is aggressive, temperamental, violent, ill-mannered (at times) and impulsive, but why? A contributing factor can include the concept of socialization. This is a lifelong process in which behavioral patterns, morals, values, skills and attitudes are developed. However this process is highly influenced by the individuals family, friends, teachers, society et al. But the major influential component is indeed the family.
Krishna's family as we have all seen are all of the traits mentioned above. Sajjan Singh and Shakti are aggressive, foul tempered, violent and ill-mannered. If a parent has behaved in a certain way then the child has a high possibility of getting influenced by it. The fact that the women in the household have been tolerant with the domestic violence and abides with the rules applied by the men, may have shaped the social development of Krishna and his temperament.
A study conducted on children s temperament revealed that parenting styles helped form a child's own temperament. It dictated whether a child should be more social or aggressive. In the case of Krishna, his attitude and treatment of women is developed through what he has perceived in his childhood.
Bretherton's theory of 'internal working model' can provide a more in depth emphasis on Krishna's behaviorism. So this theory in brief is a memory structure that gathers together a child's history of interactions with his or her caretakers. This model provides a template that an individual utilizes to generate expectations in regards to future social interactions. Similarly, Krishna's childhood history of violence through his interactions with his parents has generated his own expectations in how to socially interact with others.
Personality studies
Heritability studies depict that almost all personality traits are influenced by genetic factors (Coehlin et al.) Sajjan Singh is violent in nature and therefore there is a possibility that Krishna has developed these traits through genetics. Freud's 'Pschic-determinism' assumes that all mental and behavioral reactions are determined by previous experiences. ie: Krishna seeing his mother getting beaten when he was young.
Krishna's clash of superego and ego is also a vital element to take into consideration. Superego could include Krishna's individual values and moralistic attitudes learned from society. The society may be the inclusion of his peers and outer relatives. Due to his political status, society fears to question his actions. Therefore his wrong attitudes and values are encouraged when no one steps forward to put a stop to it. However his ego is his personal view of physical and social reality. Its his conscious beliefs about the causes and consequences of behavior. This can be seen in the honeymoon scene where Krishna's ego/conscious stopped him from raping Pratigya. This is where we could see a glimpse of his personal ego not superego, in which his own set of beliefs had come into action.
Why is Krishna aggressive?
Aggression is developed either through nature or nurture. An individuals inclination to use aggression may follow from the type of parenting they have received. Brain and hormonal differences also mark aggressive behavior. Now through my examination, Krishna's aggressive behavior can be categorized into two specific types of aggression.
Impulsive aggression - is produced in reaction to situations and is emotion driven. People respond with agressive acts in the heat of the moment. Example: Krishna constantly placing his hands on Pratigya's neck is a type of impulsive aggression. At the heat of the moment and in his anger, Krishna inflicts physical abuse against Pratigya.
Frustration aggressive hypothesis- Frustration takes place when individuals are prevented or blocked from attaining their goals. This substantial rise of frustration levels leads to aggressive behavior. Example: When Pratigya refuses to consummate their wedding (which is her absolute right), Krishna gets frustrated. When Pratigya does not speak nor communicate to Krishna, once again his frustration levels increases. This can lead to his aggressive response.
Conclusion
All in all Krishna's character is a bundle of psychological components! Please be aware, this thread is not justifying his actions. I am merely just trying to analyze him psychologically 😊. This thread had no purpose to offend anyone and please you are welcome to critisize. Just remember, no name callings, I want peace! 😆
Wanted to do a psychological analysis on his feelings for Pratigya and whether it is love or not. But this thread was already way too long!
Take care everyone! 🤗
