chapter 4

A few days later, I was on my way home from work when I heard a male voice behind me.
"You should stay in bed and recover." I turned suprised around and saw krishna looking concerned at me.
"krishna, what are you doing here?" I asked suprised. He came closer and looked reproachfull at me.
"What did the doctor tell you? Right, to rest for at least 2 weeks, so.... What are you doing here?" I looked confused at him, but then I sighed.
"I cant remember you being my father to tell me what to do. Im on my way home." I turned around and started to hobble away.
"pratigya, please wait... Im sorry. May I bring you home?" I stopped and looked at him, smiling a bit.
"No, but thank you. I can go home on my own. Im a big girl and its not late at night." I winked at him.
"What do you mean with go home? I hope you take a taxi." he answered serious.
"No, I wont take a taxi. Ill walk the 10 minutes to the bus and drive home. Well, better said 30 minutes, as Im not that fast at the moment. So, can I please go now? I have to hurry up." I said snatchy and left.
I didnt know why, but he made me mad with the way he behaved. Who was he to tell me what to do? I didnt even know him...
Suddenly someone grabbed my shoulder and lifted me up.
"krishna, what are you doing? Let me down!" I called, but he didnt listen.
"You are so stubborn, prarigya. But I can also be stubborn and Ill bring you home if you want or not. And then Ill take care that you will recover properly." I tried to struggle free, but there was no way.
"krishna! I told you to let me down. NOW!" he looked mad at me.
"Why are you working when you are ill? Why?!" he asked. I stared at him and kept quiet. krishna sat me into a car and drove me home, he carried me into my flat and sat me on the couch.

"Are you happy now? Im at home." I gazed at him, my arms folded on my chest.
"If you ask so... yes. Im happy that you are home and that you can rest now." I was a bit suprised by his answer, but was too mad at him to show it.
"And who is going to cook and to buy the food, now. I cant rest, krishna. I have too much to do." I tried to get up, but he pushed me back on the couch.
"Please, pratigya. Poo is old enough, she can also cook and go shopping. And she can also take care of the flat and tidy up a bit. Dont missunderstand me, shes a lovely girl, but your parents spoiled her." I breathed hard.
"Who are you, krishna? Who are you to tell me what to do? Who are you to judge about me or my sister. You dont even know me, Pooja or my parents. You know nothing. So, please leave now." But krishna only took a seat on the little table opposite me and watched me a while.
"You are right, I dont know very much about you. I can only judge about what I see. And what I see is a stubborn, serious, honest and young woman and her spoiled little sister... Well thats really respetable, but pratigya... you are young, lovely and pretty. You should go out, have fun and enjoy your life." I looked careful at him, not sure if he meant what he was saying, but he was absolutely honest. I could see it in his eyes. He smiled and winked at me.
"Dare to be young, pratigya..." I sighed and felt very unsure at that moment, but then I saw Poo standing in the door and I felt that his words had hurt her.
"You really know nothing, krishna. And now leave!" I called, he looked disappointed at me, sighed and got up.
"As you like it." he turned and jumped when he saw Poo standing there.
"And never dare to talk about me, Pooja or my family like that." he nodded and left.
"The truth is always hard." he said at the door, before he walked out.
I got up and threw my crutches in the corner.
"Who is he to talk like that? What does he think... I mean, he talks like he..." I complained.
"Hes right." ended Poo for me, I looked confused at her.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, that he is right. Didi, you forgot how to live, how to have fun and how to behave like a normal young woman. And he is also right that Im spoiled. I mean since your parents died you cared for me, you left university and began to work day and night to send me to school. You did so much for me and Im not able to make the food or to clean the flat. I only think about myself. And Im really sorry for our fight. I wont go to america." I looked with misty eyes at her.
"My little Poo. When did you grow up so much? Listen to me. You are my sister and I love you very much... And I know that I reacted wrong when you told me about america, but I was only so afraid to loose you. I mean, you are my family. But I thought about it and I think that you should go to america and finish your studies there. I really think so. You should go." Poo wiped her tears away and hugged me tight.
"Do you really think so?" I nodded.
"Thank you so much, didi... But what about you?" I sighed and looked at her.
"Ill go and marry Rajesh, he has asked 2 times already." She shot me a shocked look.
"Never! You wont do that. He only want you to clean and cook for him. No! If you do that, I wont go!" she called angry. I studied her face and smiled at the red spots in her face, she got everytime she was angry.
"My sweet little Poo. Ok, I wont do that, promised."

chapter 5

A few weeks later I stood with Poo at the airport and waited for her flight. I was so nervous and anxious about her.
"Do you have everything? Passport, luggage, money..." I asked the 10 000th time.
"Yes, Didi. I have everything, believe me." she answered rolling her eyes. I had to giggle.
"Im sorry, Poo. Im just so nervous." I admitted.
"Aww, Didi. Dont be. Im a big girl and Im only going to America, together with Tanita. Please promise me that you wont miss me too much." I looked with misty eyes at her.
"That wont be possible, but Ill try." Also Poo fought the tears now.
ALL PASSENGERS FOR FLIGHT 478632 TO NEW YORK PLEASE PROCEED TO GATE 42
"Thats my flight." said Poo now, I only nodded.
"I will miss you, Didi. But you will come and visit me, right?" I nodded again, not able to fight the tears any longer.
"Yes, I will. Please, take care and no matter what, Im here for you, you can call any time. And if you need me, Ill be there within a snap." I anwered with a shaking voice.
"I love you Poo. I wish you all the best and Im very proud of you." I whispered.
"I love you too, Didi. Thank you for letting me go."
"Poo, we have to go." said Tanita soft.
"I wish both of you all the best. Take care and call as soon as you have arrived." I called, suddenly I jumped.
"Poo, wait!" I ran over to her.

"I wanted to give you this. Please take it." I handed a chain with a pendant to her. Poo looked at it and shot me a shocked look.
"But Didi, thats mums chain. I cant take it." But I put my hand on her shoulder and nodded smiling.
"Yes you can. She would have wanted you to have it." Poo hugged me again.
"Thank you. I will always keep it, promise." I stroke her head and kissed her cheek.
"Go now, your plane wont wait." I winked at her.
They walked to their gate and waved one last time at me. Then I couldnt see them anymore.
I sighed and left.

The first few days were horrible for me, I missed Poo like hell and felt empty and lovely. She had called that they had arrived safely and that everything was great. My only highlights were Poos emails.

Dear Didi,
Wow, now Im already here for one week and so much has happened. Tanita and me share a room in a hostel and get along very well. The university is so big, I already got lost 3 times ;-) You know how I am when it comes to find a special place. I always get lost, but this time my Didi isnt here to safe me, so I have to do it on my own.
The lessons are great and so interesting and I absolutely love it. I even found some new friends, all very nice girls...
Oops, I have to go. Tanita is calling for me.
I love you Didi!!!
Poo

I smiled to myself and shook my head.
"My sweet little Poo." I really missed her.
"Miss Pratigya..." my boss came into my office with some papers in his hand.
"Yes Mr. Balank? What can I do for you?" I put on a smile and looked at him.
"Would you please type these for me and then bring them to the postoffice?" he threw the papers on my desk and left. I sighed and began to type. I was done by finishing time and decided to hurry to the postoffice.
On my way there, I thought about Poo and how proud I was on her, when I bumped into someone.
"Oh, excuse me. Im so sorry." I apologised and bent down to pick up the letters, that had fallen to the ground.
"Its no problem." I heard a familiar voice answer. I looked suprised up and saw Krishna standing in front of me.
He smiled and winked at me.
"Seems like fate wants us to meet again and again." I blushed.

"What are you doing here?" I asked confused and got up.
"Well, I follow you all the time and try to be near you every second." he answered with a serious face. I backed up, but then he burst into laughter.
"Just kidding. I needed to go to the postoffice and so do you, right?" I only nodded.
"Lets go together. Or...no...wait. We cant. Im not tolerated. Ok, bye." He started to walk away and I stood there like paralysed. Suddenly it hit me.
"Krishna, wait!" I called and ran after him.
"Im sorry for the way I behaved the last time. I shouldnt have talked to you like that." I apologised as I reached him. He had stopped but hadnt turned around.
"Please, Im really sorry." I said honest.
I heard him sigh, then he turned to me.
"You are right, you shouldnt have talked to me like that, but I also shouldnt have talked to you the way I did. It was really none of my business and you were right. I didnt have the right to judge you or your family." He looked sorrowfull at me. I didnt know why, but at that moment he was really different, like he showed me a bit of the real Krishna.
"Well then we are quitts... Friends?" I winked grinning at him and extended my hand to him.
He looked confused at me, not knowing what to do.
"I said things I shouldnt have said and you said things you shouldnt have said. Lets forget about that." I explained. He watched me with his wonderful dark eyes, but I jumped a bit. There was so much sorrow in it.
"Friends?" I asked again. He smiled shy and took my hand.
"Friends."
"Ok, lets go to the postoffice or it will close and I have to send these letters today." I said and started to walk. Krishna followed me.

"Great, thats done and now?" I shot him a look.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"I mean.. what are we doing now? I mean, its friday..." I had to giggle.
"Well, than you would kill me, if I said that we both go home now." he winked at me and grinned.
"No, not at all. Your or my flat?" I blushed and hit him playfully.
"You are impossible. Well, I dont know what you are doing now, but I have to shop some food for the weekend."
"Well, then Ill join you... if thats ok." I looked at him, but then I nodded.
"Ok, but you have to carry the bags."
So we walked to the supermarket and I bought my food. Krishna was fooling around with the food and behaved like a little boy.
"So, here we are. Come in." I said opening the door to my flat.
"Wow, its so clean here. Where is Pooja? Did she start do tidy up herself or did she forget to make a mess?" he joked as he looked around.
"No, Pooja isnt here. She studies in America now. She left a few ago." I expained sad and began to put the food into the fridge.
"Oh, Im sorry. I didnt know..." he apologised, but I only shook my head and continued with the food.
"Ok, the food is in the fridge. Thank you for your help." I said closing the fridge and tried to smile at Krishna, but I think I failed. He looked sympathic at me and almost brought me to tears with this look.
"Pratigya..." He walked over to me and looked intently at me. I tried to avoid his look and began to wash the dishes.
"Pratigya..." he said again, now standing right next to me. I could feel his body next to mine and smell his aftershave. He smelled so good.
"Lets go out." He suddenly said. I shot him a suprised look.
"What?! But..." I tried to hesitate, but he only grinned.
"No way. We are going out tonight. You need to get out of here. Im sure that you are sitting here in your flat for the last week, thinking about Poo and missing her, right? Well, I know Im right and thats why Ill invite you for dinner tonight. Ill go home now, so you have time to get ready and Ill fetch you at 8, ok?" I was still so suprised that I couldnt anwer.
"Great. I see you later." he answered for me and left whistling.
I looked after him, then I shook my head and giggled.
"Hes really strange."

Right in time I was ready. I had decided to wear my favourite Saree, as I felt quiet secure wearing it.
The doorbell rang. So I hurried to get it.
"Honey, Im ho..." began Krishna to joke, but he stopped when he saw me.
"Wow, you look breathtaking." he said honest. I blushed and looked shy at the ground.
"Ahm.. thank you, but you look good youself." I gave back. He wore jeans with a shirt and a jacket which fit him very well.
We kept silent for a few moments and just looked at each other.
"Oh, before I forget it, these are for you." he handed me a bunch of flowers.
"They are beautiful, Krishna. Thank you." When I took the bunch from him, our hands touched for a second and my heart started to race like mad.
"Ill just put them into water." I went into the kitchen to put the flowers into a vase.
"Ok, done." I said grabbing my bag.
"Great, lets go." he led me to his car.
