Episode 12: Chatting Over Coffee

Scene 1 - A Coffee Shop

Sathya is sitting down inside a coffee shop on a table near the window

She is about to sip a cup of cappuccino that has been carefully made so hearts appear on top

Prakash makes his entrance

Sathya is first shocked but calls out his name

Prakash is equally shocked and approaches her

Prakash: Hey, what a surprise. I know I've been saying this quite a lot of times recently but somehow we really are meeting each other accidentally on numerous occasions.

Prakash (M.V): Well, except for the time we met at the cinema. That was no accident

Sathya: I suppose you're going to tell me that it is destiny

Prakash laughs

Prakash (M.V): I'm sure that we're destined to do much much more

Sathya: Do you come here regularly?

Prakash: No, first time really. I just heard that it's a good place to get a coffee.

Sathya: The coffee is average; it's the other beverages that are outstanding here.

Prakash: Oh, like this... (looking at the cappuccino Sathya ordered)

Sathya: Cappuccino, I think you should get one. It's so great

Prakash gets up

Sathya: Wait, I'll get it for you

Prakash: Why?

Sathya: I want to

Prakash: Very well

Prakash sits back down while Sathya goes to the counter

She returns a while later with something that is remarkably identical to the cappuccino she has

Sathya: I also got you a one with hearts at the top (smiles)

Prakash: Is it to signify that we both have hearts made of gold perfect for each other? (Laughs)

Sathya too laughs

Sathya (M.V): Is he joking or being serious, hard to figure out

Sathya: Ummm, no it's to signify that we have similar tastes, a key ingredient for good friends

Prakash: Well then, to an everlasting friendship

Prakash holds the mug in mid-air

Sathya: To an everlasting friendship

Sathya and Prakash clunk the two mugs and they take steady sips of the cappuccino

Scene 2 - The Finance Department

Sathya sits down on her seat adjacent to Prakash and Prabha and starts to make her presentation

Sathya digs through the budgetary analysis

Sathya: (to Prabha) do you by any chance know the amount Gayathri gave to the investor?

Prabha: I am not too sure actually

Sathya points at the figure

Sathya: Is it somewhere close to this number?

Prabha: I think it's a little bit more than that.

Sathya: I think I know what she is trying to do.

Prakash: What have you cracked, Sherlock?

Sathya stares at him and gives him a fake laugh

Sathya: Exactly where were you yesterday?

Prakash: I wasn't feeling well, wasn't fit enough to come here.

Sathya: And now you're perfectly fine?

Prakash: Just a bit better but well enough for me to work

Sathya: Really?

Prakash coughs

Prakash: Better?

Sathya laughs

Sathya: Yes, very believable

Prabha: Anyway, what were you about to say?

Sathya: Oh, I was...

Prakash: What did I miss yesterday?

Prabha: Nothing much except for the fact that Sathya is in charge of making a presentation to persuade our main investor to continue his dealing with us.

Prakash: That's great news

Sathya: Yeah but your sister-in-law has made some crafty arrangements to make me fail.

Prakash: What has she done?

Prabha: She basically bribed the investor if you like.

Sathya: Which brings me back to my point, I have a feeling that she paid him just more than our predicted profit for this year.

Prabha gets up and walks towards Sathya

Prabha: So the investor is better off accepting her deal

Prakash too gets up and walks towards Sathya

Prakash: Seems like, it's all about the money for the investor

Sathya: What do we do now?

Prakash: Simple, we make small re-arrangements to our hotel to increase our profit margin

Sathya: And how do we do that?

Prakash: Well, we could alter our hotel's interior. I noticed that this is an issue that most critics pick up on so small amendments will lead to more favourable reviews. Better reviews mean more customers and a greater profit margin.

Prabha: That's a great idea

Sathya: Where are we going to get the finance?

Prabha: We won't need a lot and we have money set aside for emergencies which we can pull from.

Sathya: Pongal's around the corner, we'll use this as an excuse to design the hotel. (Excited) I love re-designing.

Sathya rests Prabha's hands on her left shoulders and grasps it tightly while doing the same to Prakash's hands on her right side

Sathya: I hope I always have you two by my side

Prabha: We will always...

Prakash: ... be by your side

Episode 13: Grand Designs

Scene 1 - Hotel's Reception Area

Sathya comes to the hotel

Prabha: Haven't you bought all the decoration items yet? We won't have time to do the shopping and get the hotel decorated today

Sathya: Come with me

Sathya takes Prabha outside the hotel to stand in front a white van

Prabha: What's inside?

Sathya: If's full of, absolutely brimming with the stuff you want

Prabha: (surprisingly) you bought that much?

Sathya: Well, you did give me a lot of money. I'm a spending type. Don't worry though, everything in here will be regarded an improvement.

Prabha: Good luck with that (smiles)

Sathya: Wait, aren't you going to help me

Prabha: You see, I have an important paperwork to hand in today. I want to help but I can't.

Sathya: So, I'm doing this alone

Prabha: Not necessarily, I'll send Prakash over?

Sathya: That's fine; he'll be so much more useful than you (smiles)

Prabna: (smiles) hey

Sathya: Just kidding

Prabha: I know

Sathya is replacing the foreign paintings with some local arts

Prakash: I thought we'll be adding more and not just replacing

Sathya: One thing that bugged me from the start was why foreigners will be impressed with foreign paintings which they would have already seen anyway.

Prakash: So you replace it with something which they are likely to see again while they are staying here

Sathya: Hummm, well we'll be the first one to present it

Sathya and Prakash decorate the hotel with Pongal ornaments.

Prabha comes

Sathya: How are the Pongal decorations? It offers cultural benefits.

Prabha lets down a tear

Sathya: Hey, what's wrong?

Prabha: Nothing

Prakash: You can tell us

Prabha: I always wanted to be part of mass Pongal celebration. Well you know my mother's condition; it's hard to find someone to take care of her during the evenings. That time, New Year's Eve, was just pure luck that I stumbled across a nurse who was willing to stay overnight.

Sathya: Well, we'll do something for you this year

Prabha: No don't worry about me; you have a happy time with your family. I don't want to be a burden.

Scene 2 - Hotel's Reception Area

Tomorrow

Sathya calls Prabha

Sathya: Do you mind bringing your mother with you; I really want to see her.

Prabha: I don't mind bringing her, if she doesn't mind it.

Several minutes later, Prabha comes to the hotel pushing her mum on a wheelchair

Inside, there is a group gathered to watch Pongal being cooked the traditional way

Prakash and Sathya are standing together and have their hands stretched, they mouth the word Surprise.'

Prabha rushes to them

Sathya: (to Prabha's mother) Happy Pongal

Prabha's mother smiles

Prabha: What is all this?

Sathya: Just a little something

Everyone shouts Pongallo Pongal excitedly as the pot overflows

A while later with everyone eating Pongal, uriyadi was set up

Prakash blindfolded, standing with the stick while Sathya's more than eager to pull the rope

Prakash swings the stick several times and misses

A litre of laughter later

Prakash breaks the pot with a strong hit; the flowers of the pot travel a great distance and fall on Gayathri who is just entering the hotel

Gayathri gives an angry look but clams herself down after seeing the MD present

Gayathri: We don't usually have a Pongal holiday so I was a bit shocked when I found out that we have one this year. I wanted to check.

The MD: Our hotel guests weren't fond of our staff working on the days of Pongal so they wanted our staff to celebrate Pongal with their family members. Their reason seemed justified so I gave everyone two days off.

Gayathri: So, I have your permission to go home?

The MD: Yes, you have my permission to stay home for today and tomorrow

Gayathri (M.V): Then, what are these three doing here? Shall I ask?

Gayathri leaves without asking

Prabha: (to Sathya) thank you ever so much for all this, truly an unforgettable day

Sathya: It wasn't just me, Prakash helped too

Prabha: It really means a lot

Sathya: It wasn't a big deal really; we only did what every other friend will do

Prabha: No, you may not realise it but you both did much much more

Prabha pulls both Sathya and Prakash to hug them
