New Photo of Dan Radcliffe and Imelda Staunton from OotP

Yesterday, we told you about a new interview with actress Imelda Staunton in Newsweek magazine. Today, courtesy of WB, we have a brand new photo from the magazine to show of Professor Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) and Harry Potter (Dan Radcliffe) in a scene from the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film. In the photo, which you can see here, Harry is shown sitting at the desk in Professor Umbridge's office, perhaps for the detention scenes.

False Report Regarding OotP Screenplay Writer Michael Goldenberg

There was a report posted as factual and without rumor warnings earlier today on MuggleNet (and subsequently, widely carried on other Potter fan sites) regarding purported comments made by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix screenplay writer Michael Goldenberg. TLC has now reported that the report is false, and the quotes and comments attributed to Mr. Goldenberg as well as ones regarding plans of author J.K. Rowling are completely fabricated. WB has verified this information.

The report said that Goldenberg had nicknamed "the third draft of the screenplay 'Harry Scissorhands'," because of the deep plot cuts, and that the film would not be a favorite because "most of the fun, non-Harry material was left out." There was also a report of a "new scene between Harry and Snape that eerily predicted events in both Half-Blood Prince and, according to Rowling's notes, Book 7." The writer also claimed that "Rowling, in an email, seriously suggested that after she finished Book 7 she should probably take reign as co-screenwriter and/or become a serious player in the screenwriting process."

USA Today: "Sorcerer's Stone" Most Memorable Book of Past 25 Years

The USA Today newspaper has a feature on the 25 Books that leave a legacy, spotlighting the most memorable reads of the past 25 years. The number one spot on this list is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. According to the paper:

"Midnight book parties, all-night readathons, overnight deliveries: A boy wizard named Harry got kids (and adults) thinking that reading was cool. And mega sales of the magical series redefined what it meant to be a best seller."

Rounding out the top ten are the following:

  • 2) "The Deep End of the Ocean" by Jacquelyn Mitchard (1996)
  • 3) "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown (2003)
  • 4)"The 911 Commission Report" by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks (2004)
  • 5)"Chicken Soup for the Soul" by Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield (1993)
  • 6)"Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" by John Gray (1992)
  • 7)"Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" by Robert C. Atkins (1992)
  • 8) "And the Band Played On" by Randy Shilts (1987)
  • 9) "Beloved" by Toni Morrison (1987)
  • 10)"The Greatest Generation" by Tom Brokaw (1998)
