Since this thread is receiving attention and people are making judgements, I would like to just add this information for better clarity. It is in no way a defense, but it is a clarification of the article posted.
As usual, the article has stated two lines out a long statement that SRK made. The question that was posed to SRK was not about what he thought about the controversy going on, but rather about his decision to have gone or not if he had been asked.
One thing that he kept repeating throughout the answer was that he would not take a moral ground by claiming that he would have done a certain specific thing. Since he was not in the situation, he couldn't comment on what he would have done. He did not in any which way "defend" any of the stars like the headline oh-so-proudly claims. His stance was that since he doesn't have any of the information on what would have prompted his colleagues to take part in this event, he wouldn't make a judgement on their choices and neither would he comment. He said "better judgement could have prevailed."
The portion that the article quotes was made at the end of the answer where he was generically pointing out that Bollywood is both positively and negatively put in the limelight for doing a job. This statement wasn't just related to the event like the article makes it seem so.
Most important thing he said, "I hope it wasn't to be so."
