Remember her in the Sony serial Chhoti Si Asha? Eight tears after playing Harsh Chhaya's ladylove, Churni Ganguly has made a comeback on the Hindi small screen with Ektaa Kapoor soap Kayamath on Star Plus.
"This is actually the fourth time that Ektaa has approached me. They used to watch Chhoti Si Asha as a family and have been very fond of me ever since. But I haven't been able to work with them because of my commitments here (Kolkata). This time I was relatively free", says Churni, after an all-night shoot in Mumbai for her first appearance in the serial.
Kayamath revolves around Prachi, played by Panchi Vora. Ronit Roy is her father. Churni surfaces as the other woman in Ronit's life, who he had loved and lost before getting married.
"Shenaz Patel (Rani's mother in Black) was ment to do the role, but Ektaa said she had me in mind and was ready to cast me as soon as I agreed. It's a performance-based role where I appear psychologically unstable. A character who is lost in her own world. You will see me, every Tuesday, all decked up in bridal in bridal wear, waiting for the man I loved to return". Adds Churni.
Her look in Kayamath is deliberately deglamorized and disheveled. "It's done to prevent me from looking too normal', says Churni, who will now be shuttling between Mumbai and Kolkata twice a week for the shoot.
