1-He was a despot till Maham Anga died because Bairam khan used him as a puppet till he was killed then in Peticoat government phase Maham used jalal as puppet.He knew about Maham anga's doings but did not know her malicious nature. Later after her death he got to know about her wrong doings and felt really bad. This brought him closer to hindus specially Rajputs. Rajputs for their honour and sentence could die and seeing their loyalty akbar was overwhelmed on the other side his own relations were betraying him. Thats why he was most close to Muz.
2-Akbar was cruel in his younger stage. he killed lakhs of rajputs and dishonured women(yes people this is true). Yes they are showing perfect jalal though he was not stupid in contrast to the serial. But as we all know his buddhi got a turn when he developed affections for his majority subjects. Don't know if Jodha alias harka alias maryam had any hand in it but it is sure they had deep love based on trust between them.
3-Mirza Hakim used religious bigotry to gain throne for himself. He was not at all like he is shown in tv.
4-Hamida Bano hated Bairam because he was a Shia and was power behind throne. She loved Hindal Mirza, father of Ruqayah.(This point can be refuted as i think she herself was shia. My source for it is wiki so i guess this can not be true.)
5-Akbar was not at all that much in love with rukayah as it is shown but she was influential as she was grand daughter of Babur, she held good position among her mongol subjects. Salima was more favorite of Akbar than rukayah.
