This is one of my most favorite scenes of Iss Pyaar ko. The pain, the heart-break, the anguish, it was all so evident. He realizes he feels something for her and yet can't name this emotion. Hate and love were always an integral part of their relationship and this scene brought both the emotions so well.

the moment when he came to know about her engagement, was excruciating for him. As you said he did pierced her heart severely on the diwali night by denying her existence in his life. he never could thought that Khushi could be somebody else's.

That's the key, he never realized that before,I don't know what was he thinking that she will be waiting for him forever.

He took her for granted. He used to think khushi belonged to him only.he was possessive about her. But when the reality stroke him, he became dumbfounded. But Khushi was chivalrous and retorted back strongly.

Love her for that,he needed that , he was brutal to her that night, shattered her beyond imagination...

Without inhibition she asked him why it mattered to him. And his outburst was his confession for sure. Saying 'I love you" was not needed in that moment. His reaction proved that he was in love with her madly and deeply.

Every time Soha, whenever they say they hate each other or it doesn't matter ...that showed how deeply they love each other .
