Episode 10: New Year's Eve

Prabha comes to Sathya's house, Sathya and Dharani gather around her to set their plan for New Year's Eve.

Sathya: I want to celebrate this New Year in the most

Prabha: What's the plan?

Sathya: Since there are three of us, I have reserved three places for the three best New Year parties in Chennai. We go to the greatest party last so when the clock strikes twelve we are amidst the best celebration so we can thoroughly enjoy the start of 2014.

Dharani: Everything is stored here (pointing at Sathya's brain) so nothing can go wrong (sounding excited)

Sathya: Listen carefully, it's exactly 18:58 and we set off in two minutes. I have booked a taxi for the night. At 19:30 we get to our first location, and spend an hour and a half there. Depending on the traffic we will also have about an hour and a half at the second party. We will leave at 23:00 to give us plenty of time to reach the third party before midnight so no amount of traffic can overcome us.

Prabha: Wow, you really know what you're doing.

Sathya: Great, let's rock this night

23:00

Two parties later, the three get back in the taxi ready to take the final journey of the year to the best location to celebrate New Year. All of them are excited.

Sathya notices that Dharani's heels are bright red.

Sathya: What's this?

Dharani: Nothing big, my shoes are hurting my feet. It's only a bit uncomfortable, I can power through the pain.

Sathya: We're going to be there a long time. We have nearly an hour left more than enough time to buy new shoes before getting there. Besides, it gives me an opportunity to present you with the last gift of 2013.

Dharani: I don't want to ruin your plan

Prabha: Have confidence, we'll get there... (Smiles)

The change in plan means that now they are heading away from their third party.

Dharani: Where are we heading?

Sathya: Only to the biggest mall in Chennai

23:15

They get to the mall and find the time being 23:15 through a clock tower

Sathya: See we still got 45 minutes, plenty of time to get there

The three go in and Dharani picks the shoe she wants. Sathya offers to pay and they approach the till only to find that the queue is twisting forever.

Dharani: We don't have time to go though this now, drop the shoe we're leaving now

Sathya: Are you sure?

Dharani: Yeah, I can manage

Dharani's condition worsens and she starts limping at the discomfort.

Dharani: Barefoot! Please tell me it's indoors

Sathya pauses

Sathya: Well...

Sathya joins the queue

Sathya: You're already limping; this is the only choice now.

Prabha: They have staff on every counter, seriously how long can this take? (Laughs)

The laugh soon fades away as they find the next half hour inching their way though to the front. The longest half hour of their life later and they find themselves back in the taxi. Dharani now much more comfortable reveals that they now got ten minutes to midnight

Sathya: Can we go there in ten minutes

Taxi Driver: I can get you there in five minutes

Five minutes later, 23:55

Taxi Driver: Ok, maybe not five

The taxi is barely moving as it is stuck in a huge traffic jam.

Sathya detested that her plan is now in ruins gets off the taxi.

Dharani: It is all my fault, if only I didn't wear that rubbish heals in the first place none of this would have happened...

Sathya: Damn right it's your fault! Come look outside (with a big grin on her face)

Dharani and Prabha get out of the taxi hastily and find themselves standing adjacent to Marina Beach.

Sathya hugs Dharani and Prabha

Sathya: I always wanted to come here

Sathya, Dharani and Prabha rush quickly to join the massive crowd already gathered to celebrate the arrival of 2014.

Dharani delays the procedure once again by suggesting that they each buy a plate of Pani Puri to enjoy from a stall she spots.

With a plate of Pani Puri at hand, they finally join the crowd with a minute to spare

Sathya: Me and Dharani share a tradition every year, we close our eyes for last three seconds and open our eyes so the first person we see is each other. It just gives us a blind belief that we will have each other forever. So, I'm thinking that this year we do it as a threesome, only, if it's ok with you. Remember the first person you see will be with you forever.

Prabha: Sounds awesome, let's give it a go.

Countdown starts...

3 - They close their eyes and hold each other's hands

2 - Someone accidentally barges in on Sathya by a small amount to make her look in a different direction

1 - She opens her eyes to find that she is staring at someone's back, the person standing about ten metres away

The clock strikes twelve and a loud cheering of Happy New Year' is heard. Fireworks are set off and fill the sky. The magic of Marina Beach glows ever so brightly.

The person turns around and it is... Prakash hanging with his friends

Sathya is in full shock as she recalls "the first person you see will be with you forever."

Sathya: (M.V) Really? He's here too. Am I following him or is he following me?

Prakash sees Sathya staring at him

Sathya quickly turns her head to face a different direction

Prakash approaches the group

Prakash: What a surprise to see you three here (smiles), Happy New Year

Prabha: Happy New Year to you too

Prakash: (to Sathya) You seem to lack the festive cheer.

Dharani: I'll tell you why, every year I'm the first person she sees as it gives us hope that our relationship will last forever but this year beyond her control the first person she saw was you.

Prakash: So...

Dharani: It means you are Sathya's life companion (laughs)

Sathya stares hard at Dharani

Dharani stops her laughter

Prakash: Look Sathya, you have a very strong bond with your sister and you don't need something like this to tell you that right. I only know you two for a few days but I can confirm that nothing in this world will be able to come between you two.

The four enjoy the array of fireworks filling the night sky over the blue sea creating picturesque scenery.

Sathya: (M.V) that's the magic of New Year's Eve, it's a special night no matter how things go. I'm nowhere near the place I intended to be but instead I'm gifted with a much better place. It is fantastic to start the brand new year with my lovely sister, my recently found best friend and a guy I just met who I'm forced to believe will be by my side forever...

Episode 11: The Revelation

Scene 1 - the MD's Office

Gayathri, Sathya and Prabha are gathered in MD's office

The MD: I called you three here now because every year we make a presentation to out main investor. Usually, Gayathri handles this with ease but this year I want a change to this constant schedule and Gayathri agreed with me.

Gayathri: I wanted this responsibility to go to Sathya but the MD wants to consult with you two.

The MD: I thought it's only fair that it goes to the one who really wants to do it.

Gayathri: That's true, I would have done it this year too but I am pushed for time to make a satisfactory presentation. I really feel that since Sathya is a new recruit, having such a big task provides an ideal platform for her to learn fast and adapt herself to be fit for this company.

Prabha stares at Gayathri trying to make sense of what she is actually doing

Gayathri looks back at Prabha and eye-contacts her to choose Sathya for this job

The MD: I see where you're coming from Gayathri but Prabha here is a very experienced worker in her field. I feel that she should get the choice.

Prabha: I'll let Sathya take care of this.

The MD: Oh, ok - Sathya, are you willing to do this?

Sathya: I'll do it

The MD: It's settled then, just be aware of how important it is

Gayathri leaves with a smile

Sathya and Prabha too leave to their cubicle

Sathya: This whole plan reeks of Gayathri, first we need to know what her plan is.

Prabha: I'm on it

Sathya: What if she hesitates to reveal her master plan to you

Prabha: I'll handle it

Scene 2 - Gayathri's Cabin

Gayathri is confused on whether to share her plan with Prabha as she is wary on whether Prabha is acting

Prabha enters Gayathri's cabin furiously

Prabha: How could you do this? I thought you were on my side. You were supposed to help me fire Sathya. I did not expect you to provide her a golden opportunity so she can show off to the MD. You changed a lot.

Gayathri: I'm always on your side; I will never something like this without an inner motive.

Prabha: What's your plan?

Gayathri hesitates

Prabha: I knew it, you don't have a plan. Just tell me you're on Sathya's side, I'll stop relying on you and find my own ways

Prabha leaves

Gayathri stops her

Gayathri: Trust me and wait patiently, I'll get Sathya out of here.

Prabha: What is in your mind?

Gayathri: I got Sathya to make the presentation because I know she'll fail. I have made the required arrangements for the investors to cut their deal with us this year. They will blame this refusal on Sathya.

Prabha: What's the guarantee that the MD will fire her?

Gayathri: With a little push, the MD will surely make that decision. This is the most important dealing that happens to our hotel every year. When this fails, the MD will be furious at an uncountable level and we'll use this anger to our benefit.

Prabha (M.V): How twisted are you!

Gayathri: I still can't believe you thought that I'm against you.

Prabha apologises to Gayathri

Prabha leaves with a smile and approaches Sathya

Prabha: I got it. At first, she didn't want to tell me but I made sure that she had to tell me.

Sathya: Great

Prabha: I so wanted to challenge Gayathri on whether I use this opportunity to make Sathya get a promotion or you (Gayathri) use it to make her leave.

Sathya: We'll treat this as a silent challenge and there can only be one winner

Prabha: It's obviously me
