Just Love
"How dare you" said an angry Sharon ready to pounce on her husband Swayam Shekhawat.
"I already dared my love" he said only to outrage the already furious lioness.
A normal human would not tolerate her anger at any given point of time. But that man, he seems to like opposing and angering her. He seemed to have experience with her, why wouldn't he, he has lived with her for two years now and been in a relationship five years before getting married. Seven years of togetherness sure not only gives him experience to handle her but also the guts to challenge her at any and every given situation.
"Okay, so you think all of this is shit, then you too did these things." Sharon retaliated
"It was to woo you, writing cheesy lines and this pyaar hua ikraar hua is just a phase anyways." Swayam calmly answered
"Life's main purpose is to enjoy that beautiful phase and it lasts forever" Sharon replied back.
"No, it does not last forever, it's just a phase it comes and it goes; only love lasts forever."
"This is love"
"Your definition of love is wrong. Love is not a phase its life."
"Then what's you're oh so right definition"
"You wouldn't understand. Do you even know how many teenagers commit suicide because of this?"
"Does it look like I don't?"
"Yes"
Swayam Shekhawat, the best psychologist in Mumbai had married a romantic fiction writer Sharon Raiprakash. They both were opposite sides of a magnet; they both had different ambitions and different point of views. They never agreed on anything together except one that is their love for each other. They often had these debates on their conflicting viewpoints. Today they were fighting on love.
They both had two different definitions of love; a fight was bound to happen. For her, love was a feeling when everything seems right, where everything being imperfect becomes perfect. For him, love was a feeling where one who loves accepts the other the way that person is without any compulsion.
"What do you mean I don't understand? Do I look like a fool to you?"
"Of course you are the biggest fool on earth, to believe what you write in those novels of yours." He said in the meanest possible way.
"Then why do you read all my books" she asked raising her brow.
"I did not read all' he said looking to the other side to escape her I caught you' looks.
"O really, Swayam you read each and everything, you know more about the characters of my story than I know myself. You did not even spare my personal diary"
"That seriously was the best book you ever wrote" he said smiling and trying to change the topic.
"Don't you dare change the topic, today I want to know what is love" she said standing up from the couch and placing both of her arms on her waist.
She was determined and her determination scared the shit out of Swayam, whenever she thought of something like this, she screwed his life to every extent for a whole week. She wanted to prove herself right at any cost, if she succeeds, she will make his life hell by reminding him about his loss and if she does not succeed, she will cry over her failure. In both ways, it is his and only his loss.
He stood up went up to her and snaked his hand on her waist from behind such that her back hits his chest. Her arms slip from her waist. He nuzzles into the crook of her neck. He catches her other hand with his free arm, while drawing designs on her waist with the other. He gently kisses her nape. They get lost in the moment, and just before Swayam claims his victory on distracting her she pulled out of the stance.
"Don't distract me; I want to know who is right and who is wrong"
"Babe you're ruining a Sunday for a stupid argument, we have better ways to use our Sunday, right."
"Ya, but I want to know, we have many Sundays to make fruitful use of. So let's go."
"Where?"
"The youth will decide who is right and who is not."
"The youth, you serious, they face a common syndrome called the hormonal locha, in teenage words. The old folks will tell us the true meaning" he thoughtfully said.
"The old folks? No ways, unhe toh pyaar bhi nahi hua hoga, you know what let the people say."
"Fine, where will we find this people'?"
"We will find them on the streets of Mumbai" she replied.
"Fine let's go" he said taking out his car keys.
"No, not in the car, we will go by taxi."
"Why?"
"Because I want to. Let's go" she says and pulls Swayam out of the house.
They sit in the taxi. Sharon holds Swayam's hand, looks at the driver and says
"Bhaiya, Kaini Chawl chalo, waha se aapko mein directions doongi."
"Where on earth are we going?"
"You don't understand my world, do you dear? So let's go to a place which will make you understand." She said with a smirk plastered on her face.
"Matlab?" he curiously asked.
"Matlab, be quiet till we reach our destination." She replied
He obeyed her, they reached the chawl and Sharon gave directions to the driver, this route was absolutely new to Swayam, he never came here before.
The cab stops in front of an old movie theatre. They both get out of the cab, Swayam pays the fair, and the cabbie gives him weird smiles that make Swayam uncomfortable just before leaving the cabbie says
"Best of luck boss"
This frightens Swayam and gives him an insight of the upcoming events. In curiosity he asks Sharon
"Babe seriously, Where are we? Are you taking me to an adult rated movie by any chance like Nargis Fakri takes Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar'?"
"You mean po*n right? Don't worry my love I'm not taking you there, I know you'd like to watch it, but not today. Today we are here for something else" she said placing her arms around his neck.
"And what is that?'
"A movie which only you will understand, I've got the tickets ready, let's go in"
"How? When?"
"I called a friend to arrange tickets."
"Oh like that."
They walk inside the cinema hall, it surprisingly is empty. Swayam looks around and asks
"Did you just book the tickets or the whole movie theatre?"
"Oh don't think much about that, no one ever comes here."
"Why?"
"Because this theatre is old, and one and only one movie has been playing here"
"Ok, so this is quite old"
"Yeah, now let's sit"
They go to the last benches and sit. The movie start, what Swayam sees next horrifies him the most. It is a Telugu movie, with Nagarjuna and Naintara in lead roles.
He hated Tollywood movies; he did not like the language either. It irritated him to all extents; he was forced to spend two years of his life in Andhra Pradesh because of which he was fluent in Telugu. He hated the cheesiness those movies portrayed. He experienced a three hour torture in that theatre.
They finally came out giving Swayam some peace.
"Did you have to do that? You know how much I hate that movie, and you might not even understand anything."
"I did my dear, there were English subtitles"
"I just hated the movie, it was senseless."
"No it wasn't"
"Of course it was, the hero falls in love with the heroine and tries to woo, when she falls for him he denies her love, then he fights our villain still denying her love, by the way do you understand why is he denying her love and questioning it, because OUR BELOVED HERO IS MOURNING FOR HIS DEAD WIFE. Bloody hell, the worst use of time, I swear. Not forgetting to mention the fight scenes, why can't these movies show anything that seems real? Those fights, what I don't understand is how is it ever possible that villain even though is a strong powerful body builder, he is easily defeated by the hero who must be a cancer patient. It's ridiculous. And how can I forget the end scene, the great Milan of the lovers, the hero is shot, the heroine has cut her hand and is marrying someone else, when they are almost dying hero enters and gets married. They are about to die, yet they decide to get married instead of going to the hospital. Seriously? I hate such movies because of this." He said
"You did all of this too" she stated
"When?"
"You forgot, you loved me for 5 years and when I accepted your love, you denied and thought I did not love you."
"Ya but that was real"
"Think of the movie as real cause you did everything that you loathed in that movie."
"No I did not"
"What did you not do?"
"I did not fight with a body builder"
"Yes you did, you fought with Nilesh who was said to be strong,'
"What, Nilesh, he did not even have bones.'
"Fine there is something you did not do there, you did not marry me in the last moment, or abduct me from my marriage, I remember how your dad forced you to get married to me.'
"That time was fun"
"I know our marriage was fun. Anyways let's proceed to the next destination"
"And where is that?"
"You will know soon my love" she says and walks towards a cab.
They sit in the cab and this time they stop in front of an old age home. Swayam gets down from the cab and pays the driver. Sharon stands in front of the gate while Swayam joins her soon enough.
"Let's take the opinion of our elders too." She says looking at him and walks inside. He follows her. They go to a reception; Sharon speaks with the receptionist for a while. The receptionist leads them to a room. It looked like a living room. Many oldies were sitting there; some were talking while the others were watching TV. The receptionist blew a whistle to attract everyone's attention. Everyone looked to her, Swayam and Sharon. She says
"Good afternoon everyone, they are Mr. and Mrs. Swayam Shekhawat, they have a small doubt regarding the fundamental source of life: love. They think you all might be able to help them. You all are elder and more experienced, I hope you will answer all of their questions nicely; they will come to each one of you to find answers, please listen carefully and then talk. Sharon, Mr. Shekhawat, you may proceed." She said and left the room. The old gang too got busy in themselves. Our Mr. and Mrs. Shekhawat did not know what to ask and how to ask. They felt left out and lonely after two minutes. An old lady saw them standing nervously and looking at everyone. She pulled her wheelchair towards them. She looked at them and smiled; they returned the gesture and smiled.
She went to them and asked
"Beta, yaha humare mooh dekhne aaye ho kya? Humse poochoge nahi kya poochna hai?"
"Ji hum wohi soch rahe the ki kisse kya pooche, yaha par sab busy hain." Sharon said.
"Yaha koi busy nahi, sab tum dodno ka wait kar rahe hain ki kab tum dono aake sawal poochoge, ab itne saare log hain toh time lagega, isliye sab apne kaam pe lag gaye, tum kisi se bhi ijaazzat mangkar kuch bhi puch lo." She smiled and said
"Phir aap hi se shuru karte hain" Sharon sits down and places both her hands on the lady's knees.
Swayam sits cross legged beside Sharon and asks
"Dadiji, pyaar kya hota hai?"
"Tum dono miya-biwi ho?"
"Ji" they answer in union
"Phir aisa sawal?"
"Dadiji, mein romantic kahaniyaan likhti hoon aur yeh psychologist hain, hum jaanna chahte hain ki pyaar kya hain, hum dono ek dusre se alag hai par phir bhi pyaar karte hain. Hum isi ehsaas ke bare mein aur jaanna chahte hain." Sharon says
"Beta, pyaar sirf ehsaas nahi, pyaar hi life ka definition hai. Yaha har insaan ko pyaar hai har dusre insaan ke prati. Tum dono jis definition ko dhoond rahe ho who tumhi ne keh diya."
"Matlab"
"Means, love is respect, trust and acceptance of the person the way he or she is." She says
"Hume pyaar mein chaand bada nahi dikhta dadi?"
"Dikhta haina, mujhe bhi dikha, par yeh sirf signs hai, yeh sab shaadi ke 5 saal baad nahi rehte, par pyaar humesha rehta hai. Tumhe dekhkar lagta hai, ki tum bohot romantic ho, warna writer kaise banti?"
"Ji nahi dadi, mein bilkul romantic nahi hoon, saara romance yahi karte hain."
Sharon said shying and blushing furiously.
"Ohh, toh koi sharma raha hai, weise agar yeh romantic hai toh tum writer kaise bani aur beta tum psychology mein kaise gaye?"
"Lambi kahani hai dadi, kabhi aur aake bataoonga, tab tak I think Sharon ko jawaab mil gaya hain." He said smirking at Sharon
"Beta mujhe tumhare sawaal ka jawaab nahi pata, pur ek jagah hain jahan tumhe apna jawaab mil jaayegaa."
"Dadi mera aur Sharon ka ek hi sawaal tha" he said keeping a confused face.
"Sawaal ek hi tha beta, pur jawaab alag. Sharon aur tumhara definition alag tha, Sharon ko samaj aa gaya, tumhe bhi samaj aa jayegaa, agar tum uss jagah gaye toh. "
"Kausi jagah dadi?"
"Riffle pub mein jao, yahan se 5 min door hai. Tumhe waha sab dikh bhi jayegaa aur samaj bhi aayega.'
"Ji dadi" Swayam says and smiles at her
"Beta, ek baat yaad rakhna, galti wohi log karte hain, jinhe sach ki samaj na ho, experience se bol rahi hoon. Pyaar mein log hamesha sahi rehte hain. Ab jao." She says and smiles
"Aap bohot cute ho, aapko pata hai"
"Haan ab jao, warna yeh log tumpe toot padenge." She says nudging Sharon who is silently listening to their conversation.
"Ji dadi. Let's go Swayam"
She gets up, they both take dadi's blessings and leave the place.
They come back to the reception. The receptionist sees them and asks
"You're done already?"
"Yes we got our answer."
"So you spoke to everyone?"
"No but, speaking to one was enough to clear our brains."
"I get it, the old population, they have brains like kids and hearts mature."
"We could see that."
"I hope you had spent quality time here"
"Yes of course, you might expect to see us visiting soon."
"I hope to see you soon" the receptionist said and bid them a bye.
They came out of the old age home. Swayam looked around and said.
"It's 3pm, we should grab something to eat"
"We're going to a teen pub anyways let's not waste time. Let's walk, its only 5 min away right."
"No I think I have a better idea" he said pointing towards a horse.
"Great lets go" she says as they proceed to the horse.
They see a man standing close to the white horse and gently rubbing its back.
Sharon askes
"Bhaiya, yeh hume Riffle pub tak chodne keliye kitne loge?"
"Madamji, yeh ghoda ghudsawari keliye nahi hai"
"Phir kya isse statue ki tarah bechne ke liye rakha hai?"
"Kya madamji aap bhi, yeh toh, pyaar mein uljhe logon ki madat karne keliye rakha hai."
"What? Matlab?"
"Jo bhi girlfriend boyfriend jhagadte hai na, woh mostly isliye hota hai kyuki woh du rho jaate hai, yeh unhe paas lata hai, aap dono jhagda thodi na kar rahe ho"
"Yeh kya baat hui, this is utter discrimination! How dare you?!" she screamed
"Sharon, babe calm, aise chillao mat, it does not look good."
"What! Swayam, tum yeh keh rahe ho, I can't believe this, ek time tha jab tumhe meri yeh aadat pasand thi, aur ab?"
"Aadatein badalti hain Sharon, you're just being rude to this man."
"You know what I hate you"
"I hate you too"
The man standing there got quite shocked by the sudden rebuttal. He said
"Arre yeh kya tum logo ne ladna shuru kar diya, lelo ghoda aur jao jaha jana hai.
Aur han, utarkar ise kahin pe bhi chod dena, woh mere paas khud aa jayega."
"Ji" Sharon said angrily.
They both climbed the horse and Swayam started riding it. Sharon caught Swayam by his shoulder. Soon as they reached a distance, Swayam started Laughing, Sharon joined him too.
"Nice acting, Mrs.Shekhawat"
"Thank you sir"
"I mean we have become masters at impromptu acts"
"I know right" he said
"Lo we've reached"
"It is quite close"
"Hmm, get off" he said and got her off the horse.
They left the horse and went inside the pub. The pub was filled with guys and girls doing all sorts of thing they aren't supposed to do. Some were drinking, some were smoking and most were making out. It was not a place a wise person would go.
"Who are these people?
"The age group which suffers the problem of hormonal locha"
"What, all teens?"
"Yeah"
"How are we going to tackle them?"
"I think I should ask, cause it's my answer right"
"As you say, I'm not going to open my mouth here, mera dam ghut raha hai yaha."
"I get it, I'll get done with this as soon as possible, I swear"
"hmm" she says looking around.
After an hour they come out, not in good shapes and making disgusted faces.
"I hate that place."
"I experience it every day so, I know how it is"
"hmm, let's go home now."
"Yeah I'll call a cab"
They reach their mansion and rest for a while. Swayam wakes up at 7 pm with Sharon dozing off; he sits on his sofa and thinks of the answers he got.
"Love is stupid"
"Love hurts"
"Love is nothing"
"Love is a huge piece of absolute shit"
All of these words were said by those teens. None of them knew what love was. No wonder they went in wrong company.
"Dadi was right, we have two definitions of love but both of them are right"
He thinks looking at Sharon. He goes to their bed and tries to wake her up
"Kya Swayam, sone do na"
"Shona, I want to love"
"Swayam, I'm in no mood to know the definition of love." She said in a sleepy state.
"I don't want to tell you any definition, I just want to love you my love" he says with a huge smile on his face observing her cuteness.
It was a long day for them and it sure is going to be a long night too.
It was just love.
