1. Gone are the days when audiences just craved to watch high voltage drama in saas-bahu sagas. Today mythological shows have taken over. The popular Gods and Goddesses of Hindu mythology have become a huge rage on the small screen. As a result these shows and their characters are growing immensely popular with each passing day. Though TV actors playing gods have suddenly emerged as big stars on small screen, top Bollywood actors and filmmakers have been shying away from this genre. TOI takes a look at some of the top Bollywood actors who can play mythological characters in films.
Shah Rukh Khan as Lord Rama: Shah Rukh Khan, who has previously experimented with a historical character by playing King Ashoka in Asoka can do a good job when it comes to playing Lord Rama. The Badhshah of Bollywood is a family man, like Lord Rama of Ramaya and since Shah Rukh is loved by all age groups, it will be an added advantage for him.
2. Salman Khan as Karna: When we talk about mythological shows, roping in men with a toned body becomes a must and who better than Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The Dabangg Khan, who is also known as the man with a golden heart fits all the attributes to play the mythological character of Karna. In Mahabharat, he was known for his philanthropist nature. Interestingly, Salman Khan also runs a charitable trust Being Human' and is known for reviving the careers of many in Bollywood.

Prakash Raj as Ravan: There are many actors who play villainous characters in Bollywood movies.These Hindi film villains are normal men with a dark streak that is displayed in unfortunate though very commercially popular ways. But when it comes to playing Ravan onscreen, one name that immediately comes to our mind is Prakash Raj. 6. Hrithik Roshan as Shiva: Hrithik Roshan, who has a body to die for will definitely suit the role of Lord Shiva to the tee. Interestingly, there were rumors that the actor was approached to play the role of Shiva in Karan Johar's adaptation Immortals of Melluha. Besides a good physique, Hrithik also has great dancing skills which makes him an even better choice for the role of Lord Shiva.

Aamir is one actor who is known to put perfection in whatever he does, just like Mahabharat's Arjun. The mythological character of Arjun is known for his sharp mind and intelligence. His experience of working in period films like Lagaan, 1947 Earth and Mangal Pandey will help him portray the character with ease.
