Prompt: "For once, Zoya telling RaDil that they are wrong"
NOTE: I tweaked this a little. Seeing how Rashid is not in a state to talk, I have altered this as a talk with Dilshad only! I hope you don't mind! :)
---
Zoya was sitting in her room, well, her temporary room in the Siddiqui Mansion. She missed the warmth and familiarity of her home and this place was not her home. She wanted her Dost to get well soon. She felt suffocated under the demeaning and judging gazes of the people of this house.
She sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. She had gotten off the phone with Mr. Khan a few minutes ago. He had decided to leave for Indore for the day and said that he would return late in the night.
He was escaping. She knew his pattern now. He was doing everything that his mother wanted from him, but he did it on his own terms. He had his belongings in this house, but he did not stay here for any longer than what sleeping required.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Dilshad entering her room.
"Zoya?" she called as she found her.
"Yes, Phuppi? Did you want anything?"
"No, I was just looking for Asad. I went to the outhouse but he is not there as well. I tried to call him but it went straight to voicemail. Do you know where he is?" Dilshad looked concerned about her son's whereabouts.
Zoya nodded at her and that seemed to calm Dilshad a little, "He has gone to Indore for some meetings. I talked to him a little while ago and he said he will return later. He is fine, Phuppi. You don't have to worry."
Dilshad frowned and then sighed, "How can I not worry, Zoya? He is my son and with the way he has been acting, I am bound to worry about him. You know how his temper is!" she lamented as she sat on the bed.
Zoya sat next to her and patted Dilshad's arm, "Relax, Phuppi. He won't do anything rash. He promised me as such. Trust me, Phuppi."
"No, Zoya," Dilshad shook her head, "It's not about acting rash. It's about the way he has been acting around here. He comes in and then goes out again. What is this behavior? And his constant rude actions? I raised him better than that!"
Zoya scowled at Dilshad. For once, she could hardly side with her Phuppi.
"Phuppi! Mr. Khan has agreed to live here, isn't that enough for now? You know he can't take anything that anyone says against you. And why should he? They are all wrong and they are the ones who are being rude! Why are you tolerating all the venom they keep spouting at you?" Zoya said, indignantly.
Dilshad stood up and went near the window, "I told you I don't care what they say about me. I am above their vile comments. But Zoya, is it too much that I want my son to have a normal relation with his father? Is it too much for me to ask that I want bygones be bygones? Is it too much to ask for just some moments of happiness, Zoya?" she had tears in her eyes.
Zoya closed her eyes and held her resolve and then opened her eyes to see Dilshad looking at her with a beseeching expression.
"I am sorry, Phuppi, but this time, it is a little too much."
Dilshad looked at her with incredulous eyes.
Zoya too stood up, "I am not saying that it is too much to ask for happiness, because you deserve all the happiness in the world, but it is too much to ask for that while stomping on someone's else's feelings. Phuppi, how can you ask Mr. Khan to let everything go? Years have only added to the betrayal he has felt. Pasts like these? Can you really ever forget?"
Dilshad shook her head while crying, "But, Zoya! If I can overcome that, Asad can try as well!"
Zoya let out a humorless chuckle and then asked, "Phuppi? Does Mr. Khan love you?"
Dilshad gave her a confused look, "Of course he does, Zoya!"
Zoya nodded at her, "And he can do everything for you, right Phuppi?"
Dilshad's lips turned into a tiny smile, "He can, and you know it. He has always been very sensitive to my feelings and needs; ever since he was a child. But you know this Zoya!"
"You are right," Zoya said, "I know this, very well, Phuppi, but I was asking you because to me it seemed like you had forgotten these things." She gave Dilshad a sad smile and continued, "He loves you and Najma more than anything in this world and your well being is his priority. Your love for your husband is very strong, Phuppi and that allowed you to look past everything. But for Mr. Khan, forgetting the pain of seeing you struggle for years is not easy.
"He has seen you cry, work tirelessly, and neglect the prime of your life to provide for them. If he is so sensitive when it comes to you, then how can you expect him to forget how his mother suffered because of his father? Mr. Khan deserves an apology from his Abbu before anything else.
"You know very well that Mr. Khan will still do anything that you will ask of him, but Phuppi, is that right?"
Dilshad cried harder, and Zoya walked to her and put a calming hand on her shoulder, "I don't mean to hurt you Phuppi. I don't want to see any of you hurt. Please, try to understand what he is going through as well."
When Dilshad only cried and said nothing, Zoya sighed and said, "Dost will be fine soon. But please, don't lose your son in the process. And you say that you are above their appalling accusations, but a person can only take so much of the demeaning insults before they buckle down beneath it. And in all of this havoc that is our lives, don't forget who you are. Self respect permeates in every aspect of life, haina Phuppi?"
-end-
A/N: I feel like I could have done a lot more with this, but I was coming up empty as of now! *sigh*
Anyway! I hope it was good!
Cheers,
Simi
