Chapter 12

I was pacing in the room. I couldn't figure out what was happening. It was so late and I didn't get a chance to talk to Raghu earlier. I couldn't fall asleep so I grabbed my basketball and headed out.

I walked out in the hall and was about to walk towards Antara's room but I looked at the clock on the wall. It was late. Would it be right to go now? I saw her coming out of her room and she was carrying her basketball. "Miss. Kaul," I said. "Haan?" she said. "Woh, mujhe tumse kuch baat karni thi," I said. "Bolo, kya hua?" she asked. "Woh," I hesitated. How was I supposed to say this? "Jab se main Kashmir aaya hoon, mujhe kuch ajeeb si feeling ho rahi hain. Jaise main tume phele se jaanta hoon, par main toh tumse abhi, kuch dino phele mila hoon, so I don't know. Main bahut confuse ho gaya hoon," I said. There. Finally. I said it.

"Jab se main Kashmir aaya hoon, mujhe kuch ajeeb si feeling ho rahi hain. Jaise main tume phele se jaanta hoon, par main toh tumse abhi, kuch dino phele mila hoon, so I don't know. Main bahut confuse ho gaya hoon," he said. So he was feeling the same thing that I was. "Main bhi tumse yahin kehna chati thi, ki mujhe bhi ajeeb sa lag ra hain. Main bhi bahut confuse ho gayi hoon," I said. "Toh ab hum kya kare?" he asked. "Pata nahi. Meri samaj mein toh kuch bhi nahi aa ra hain," I said. "Well, I guess ki main apni mom se baat karonga or something," he said. "Yeah, that's a good idea," I said. I hadn't really thought about what I would do after telling him. "Tum basketball khelne jaa rahi ho?" he asked, changing the topic. "Haan, jaa rahi thi. Woh mujhe tumse baat karni thi par bahut raat ho chuki thi aur mujhe neend nahi aa rahi thi. Par ab maine tumse baat kar li hain, toh ab nahi khelongi," I said. "Oh, well good night then," he said. "Good night," I replied. The two of us headed back to our rooms and finally called it a night.

I was getting ready the next morning when Raghu walked into my room. I was wearing my normal attire, jeans and a full sleeve sweater because it was going to be cold. "Tum ne dawai li?" he asked. "Haan le li. Itni bhi bhulakar nahi hoon main," I said and continued getting ready. "Good, waise tum toh normally salwar suit phenti ho na?" he asked. I looked down and said "No." "Toh phir, itne dino se?" he asked. "Haan, woh mama ne kaha tha issi liye. You know, shaadi ka mahol hain and all. Nahi toh main normally jeans phenti hoon. Waise tume main aise zayaada achi lagti hoon ya salwar kameez mein?" I asked. "Tum jo bhi pheno, achi lago gi," he said. My eyes shot up and met his. He thought I looked good in whatever I wore? It felt different to hear a compliment from him. I normally didn't pay attention to what other people said but for some reason, Raghu's opinion always made a difference.

"Tum jo bhi pheno, achi lago gi," I said. It was true. She looked beautiful in whatever she wore. Her eyes shot up and met mine. We were looking at each other when I heard Mom's voice, "Raghu, neeche aao." I broke the eye lock and headed out, but not before turning once and giving her a smile. "Saach keh raha hoon," I said and went down the stairs.

"Ramu kaka, aap ne sab gari mein rakh liya hain na?" I asked as we went outside. "Ji Antara beta. Sab rakh diya hain," he replied. "Thank you," I said. We were going skiing today. It was going to be a lot of fun. It had been a couple of months since the last time that I went so I was super excited to go. Arjun came and we all headed out towards Gulmarg.

The amount of excitement on Antara's face was indescribable. She was so happy. I spent the entire car ride sneaking glances at her. Finally, we reached and were all set to ski.

As we all got out of the car and headed off towards the hill, I had wandered off to the other side. I saw an old woman who needed help finding her granddaughter. I walked around and helped her find her granddaughter.

We were all heading towards the ski lift, when I looked around and saw that Antara wasn't with us. Where did she go? I got worried and looked around for her. I was walking around when I saw her. I was so relieved to see her fine. I ran up to her and hugged her. "Kahan chali gayi thi tum? Agar tume kuch ho jata toh?" I said. "Raghu, main bas us Aunty ki madat kar rahi thi," she said. I realized the position we were in and let go of her. "Woh, main..." I didn't know what to say. "Raghu, it's ok. Hum chale? Sab wait kar re honge," she said. "Haan, chalo," I said.

Why was he so worried about me? Well, we are friends so it makes sense. But still... I got an idea and picked some snow up off of the ground. I made a snowball and threw it at Raghu. He looked at me shocked, then picked up some snow and threw it at me. We ran around the hill throwing snow at each other. We were laughing and having so much fun. Raghu was running after me and I turned around and stuck my tongue out at him. His foot slipped over a small rock and he went falling taking me down with him. We were still smiling and started laughing when Raghu fell. We were so close but that awkwardness between us was gone. We were enjoying ourselves. I felt as if today was a magical day. Raghu and I were growing closer and closer and I enjoyed being with him.

After our snowball fight, Antara and I went to actually ski. We were going to have a competition to see who could get down the hill first. "Ready, set, go!" Riya shouted. The two of us set off down the hill. Antara was going faster than I was and it was hard to catch up to her. Finally, we made it to the bottom of the hill and Antara won. "Dekha Raghu, maine kaha tha na, main hi jeeto gi," she said with a smile on her face.

After skiing, we headed back home. This time I was sitting with Raghu at the back and Ishaan and Payal were at the front. I was so tired from skiing. I had a lot of fun though. I fell asleep and without realizing, my head leaned on Raghu's shoulder.

Today had been an eventful day. What was wrong with me? Why was I so scared when I couldn't find Antara? I was so confused about my feelings and I still had to talk to mom about those flashbacks. Main unse ghar jake baat karonga, I thought. Suddenly, I felt some weight on my shoulder and looked down to find Antara. I smiled and turned to look out the window for a bit. Later, I started to fall asleep and my head leaned on top of hers.
