Yesterday's episode revealed a romantic side of Jalal which we never had seen before.
Yes we had seen him being romantic with Ruqu before but that was more sophisticated kind of romance with limits as she is his cousin and childhood friend. He cannot exceed his limits and act love lost with her anyways even if he wants to.
But the way Jalal was dreaming of only Jodha through out tansen's performance was like a teenage college boy in love first time. It reminded me of the legandary romance of Romeo-Juliet, Laila-Majnu, Salim-Anarkali etc except all legandary romances are tragic(wonder why?) and that is the truth.
But alas if only the next plot had not been revealed we could have believed in it because all of us know what shall happen next that jodha will reject him and may be even give him extensive lectures of ghrina, ashobaniya, anuchit bartav
Coming to the scenes they were all good except that scene near that pool or hamam. What a bad copy of the most romantic scene in hindi cinema and may be even in world cinema from Mughal-e-azam movie? That scene made me want to go back and watch that iconic scene from the movie as Salim-Anarkali meet avoiding all prying eyes at dead of night in a garden as Tansen rehearses his raga. In movie the song was so soothing and voice was perfect that you feel real tansen was singing it not some Ustad singer.
There were two major backdraws in the scene
1) The singing itself- The voice/singer who sings it does not make us think of tansen. It reminds you of some modern singer. Tansen could light diya's and bring rain through his voice. Indeed when tansen sang once in forest in mathura at request of akbar aparently many wild animals had come over and sat silently listening to him. So we can only imagine how good he was? I do not think anyone can match that kind of singing but atleast use some classical voice some ustad who has grip on sur/tan's and with knowledge of raga. Jodha's voice was OK - we do not have high expectations of her voice because she is a queen not some great singer like tansen.
2) The copied scene itself: I felt they should have picturised the scene in a garden like in mughal-e-azam. It was a bit akward to watch the scene in an hamam kind of scenario. Right word may be it was a bit crude/crass to picturise it in hamam. And with Jalal caressing her face with a pankh it got even more unbelievable. Why was it unbelievable?
Prince Salim or Jehangir was known to write poetry and couplets. He was trained by Rahim(of Rahim ke dohe fame) to write poetry and he was known to write good couplets/poems. Sample can be seen in many places whether anarkali tomb in lahore, jodha's(his wife not his mother) tomb in MP, jehangirnama etc. So we know Salim was both a romantic person by nature as well as a good poet. So him taking a pankh and caressing his beloved was convincing to an viewer.
But the great Akbar who was known to be serious and strict using pankh was a bit too much. And here it looked more like jodha was leading the love scenes not jalal. He was more of acting like a teenager just in love. It was getting a bit akward with that scene.
Previously i had made a post "Akbar or Jehangir" to tell that Akbar was acting more like Jehangir in this serial. All recations we expect Jehangir to do were being done by Akbar. But now after the scenes yesterday i take back my words. Salim even though madly in love with Anarkali or Nur Jahan would not have acted so mushy/lost in love as depicted in the movie Mughal-e-azam. Salim or Jehangir would always remain the royal haughty prince/emperor he was irrespective of his love for anarkali/nur jahan. It can be deciphered by the fact that he had Nur Jahan's brother killed for siding with Khusrau and put her father in jail for embellishment of royal funds or him announcing that Shahh Jahan his favourite son was a "be-daulat" in court for suspicion of killing khusrau in custody etc
May be because Salim was already an adult when he was in love with both women, may be because he was not as love deprived by family as akbar was, may be because he had not faced betrayal at hands of family members like akbar or may be he was brought up in privilege and like a royal prince without hardships and he always got everything he wanted on a platter.
But jalal he looks like a deprived kid who suddenly found a candy or a teenager on first crush by his reactions yesterday. Alas, today will be heartbreak and a very important lesson in love and loyalty. In loyalty he will realize do not trust what your ears hear even from close family like badi ammi and in love he will learn "A girls yes does not mean yes and her no does not mean no" 😊
