Sharon shivered a bit and waited. A few drunkards passed by, cat calling and whistling at her. She glared at them feeling all the more frightened. They called out to her and one of them started approaching seeing no one in sight. And then she saw him, on his cycle. Relieved, she ran towards him and hugged him tightly. Taking in the scene he'd understood what was happening. A stern glare at them had them re tracing their steps, while he hushed a frightened Sharon by soothing her hair. "Thank god you came, mein dar gayi thi" she whispered into his shirt, her voice quivering. "Hush its alright, I'm here" he whispered back. The goons had silently left seeing Swayam. After a minute or so, Swayam and Sharon both realised what they were doing and immediately took a step back feeling awkward yet nice. They stole glances at each other, and looked away silently, wondering what to do now. "Chale?" he asked. "Huh?...haan yeah ok" she said, and went to sit in between his arms on his cycle. Swayam adjusted himself and off they went towards Sharon's house, silently. Sharon enjoyed the silence in a way, it kinda felt normal...not awkward, but awkward yet she felt secure, more secure than she'd felt in so many days. She smiled to herself thinking of their date. The day they'd been to bharat's garage for their chai date. Swayam noticed her smiling away to herself dreamily and smiled, knowing exactly what she thought. To break the ice he asked her about the wedding to which a startled Sharon replied it was fine.
They reached her house by then and sharon after saying thanks to Swayam got down and went to unlock her door. Swayam, like the gentleman he was, waited patiently until she went in. 'Oh shit! Keys meine kahan rakh Li?' sharon thought as she searched her pockets again and again. She turned to look at Swayam with a nervous glance, who returned it with a questioning one. She slowly walked toward him, searching for some indication of a key. She fidgeted with her hands and looked at Swayam, who frowned a bit and tilted his head as if to ask "What happened?". She looked at him sheepishly and said hesitantly"Wo...wo actually...meine" she started and paused. "Haan tune?..." he asked encouraging her to continue. "I lost my keys" she said and quickly looked down, crossing her fingers expecting him to yell for waking him from his sleep, only to tell him she was licked outta her house. Instead, he laughed. He laughed and he laughed, while sharon looked at him surprised, well first surprised and then slowly irritated. "How dare you?! Kyun Hass rahe ho?!" she yelled at him after sometime of his laughter. He just shook his head, laughing again. "Itna bada problem mein hoon aur tum Hass rahe ho!" she said and crossing her arms she glared at him. He controlled himself, "Mein bhool gaya tha, tum kitni cute ho, I missed you" he said grinning. "Tu sach mein miss kar Li mujhe?" she asked him quietly taken aback with his reply. Swayam mentally slapped himself. "Mein..i mean all of us..rey, kria, Simmi...sab ne" he said trying to change the topic. "Oh...even i missed you all...you especially" she said looking away. Swayam looked at her as she turned to look back at him. "Umm ab kya karu?" she asked after a while of silent conversation. "Rey ya Simmi ki ghar chodun?" he asked relieved she changed the topic. "Rey or rinni out of town hai na? Rey is in chandigarh right?" she asked. "Haan...tujhe kaise pata?" he asked surprised. "Kria ne bataya.." she said. He looked at her in awe again, wondering if she had changed. "Tho simmi ke ghar ya kria ki?" he asked. "Simmi's is fine, its better not to disturb kria...she needs proper rest remember?" she said after a moment of thought. "Yup" swayam agreed and sat again on his cycle, and looked at her expectantly. She sat yet again in between his arms, and he started peddeling.
*Bump, tch, sshhh* swayam had accidentally rode over a rock and the cycle wobbled. Letting sharon get off first, he got off to examine his cycle. He got up with a uncomfortable expression and looked at sharon sheepishly. "Umm puncture..." he said. "Oh damn!" she said looking crest fellen. "abh kya karein?" she asked him worriedly. "Simmi ki ghar tho bahot dur hai, we can't walk all the way there, rey is out of town, rinni is out of town, aashi is in the hospital, kria is ill...abh kahan jaaungi mein?" she muttered worriedly to herself. "Hey, don't panic...kuch na kuch zarur dondenge" Swayam said. They thought of other alternatives like climbing in through the window or waiting for her driver. "Swayam!" she exclaimed, excitement lighting up her face. "kya mein aaj tumhare ghar pe ruk sakti? Please" she asked him, her pleading. He looked at her taken aback and then said slowly..."mere ghar, tum aur mein...itni raat...its awkward" and paused. "Please? Aur koi raasta nahi hai humare paas" she pleaded. Swayam thought for a while and seeing no other alternative, he gave in to her plea. "Yes! Thank you so much" she said and gave him a huge peck on his cheek, leaving him surprised. She immediately realised he would be uncomfortable, and riveted back with a "oops". Swayam was partly lost in Lalaland and partly was shocked by the response. Deciding it was best to ignore. He asked "Chale?". Sharon too nodded her head meekly and went to walk beside him, after leaving his cycle at her place.
They walked in silence for a while, Swayam kicking stones he found as he walked. Sharon shivered a bit and rubbed her hands to keep herself warmer. This obviously didn't go unnoticed by Swayam who immediately shrugged out of his jacket and handed it to her. She hesitated a bit. Swayam wrapped his jacket around her firmly and made her hold it, taking her by surprise. She just looked at him, to see a wee bit of concern, but then she couldn't since he didn't meet her eyes. She clutched his jacket closer and put her hands through, breathing the scent of him in, as she pulled it closer for warmth. They'd to walk by the marketplace, where only two three shops, tea shops were open. Swayam headed to one of the stalls and ordered two cups of tea for himself and her. "chai?itni raat?" she asked confused. "Yeah, it helps with the cold" he said shrugging lightly. He took his place on the opposite bench and they waited looking around. He spotted Sharon staring at the chana stall on the opposite side of the road, rather hungrily. "Tumne kuch khaya?" he asked. "Not really..i was in a hurry to get back home" she said sheepishly. The tea came just then, hot and nice. Handing one glass to her, he watched as she took a sip. Her face twisted a bit and she fanned herself in front of her mouth. His expression changed from adoration to concern. "Bohot garam hai...be careful" she warned him very seriously. He smiled at her cute behavior. Man he missed her. Missed her too much. He felt incomplete without her.
Sharon cautiously drank her tea, sip by sip...knowing fully well he watched her, at least she hoped he did. And he did, with adoration adorning his eyes, he stole glances at her now and then as he sipped his own tea. Sharon to caught him glancing when she looked at him, and smiled, pleased by the behavior. She finished her tea and looked up to see no one beside her. She looked around and found him across the road, paying the chana wala. He turned as she stared at him shamelessly before catching herself. He held two paper cones of chana. He bought them over and handed her a packet. She took them excitedly, popped a few in and munched happily, beaming like a little kid. She felt a bit nostalgic remembering how her dad would often get her these little things, yet she felt nice. She felt special coz Swayam had gotten them for her. Swayam, the great love of her life.
Swayam again watched her with those adoring eyes. Smiling as she smiled like a kid. She was gorgeous. Simple yet beautiful. She wasn't how she showed herself to be. Complex and tough. She was simple. She was sensitive. He sighed a bit as he watched her. "Sab, 3 rupaiya Hui..chai ke liye" a voice interrupted his monologue. He looked in the direction of the voice a bit irritated but then paid up. By then Sharon's attention had diverted and she got up, all set to go with the chana in her hand.
They walked together, in silence. It was a beautiful night, a quiet and a calm night. Like the calm before the tempest. Crickets croaked here and there, hidden from sight. It was perfect. It was romantic. The silence made it feel surreal. Yet it was so very real. They walked and walked in complete silence. Each own lost in their own thoughts and imagination. Sharon walked beside Swayam with a sweet smile, imagining them as a couple. Happy and in love, not they were out of love for each other, no they could, actually she could never ever fall out of love with Swayam. She knew he wouldn't either. He couldn't, he wouldn't to either. She imagined the trial confession night, another night which was as beautiful as this one, when she'd imagined him and her dancing. She sighed.
Swayam walked beside her, imagining themselves, happily talking about everything under the sun, teasing and laughing together, hand in hand just like they had on their first date, their jogging date. He smiled at the memory. Heheard a sigh beside him and looked at sharon curiously. Sharon looked back at him, enraptured and with...love? He thought. Was it real? Or was it just her thought? He questioned again. They reached his house. Swayam lead the way forward and unlocked the door. Switching on the lights and clearing the path of anything that was inappropriate, he made his way to the kitchen, after asking Sharon to make herself comfortable. He'd decided to make her eat something at the tea stall, and so he stood wondering what he could do.
Sharon being curious, followed him and knew what he was up to when he took out the saucepan and set it on the stove. "Help kar du?" she asked entering the kitchen and opening the fridge to get eggs. "No, mein manage kar lunga" he said. "Pooch nahi bata rahi hoon" she said approaching the stove. "Hato" she ordered, he obliged knowing fully well there was no point arguing. She went about gathering ingredients to make an omlette for herself and Swayam. Swayam stood to a corner and watched her quietly. "Oil?" she asked turning back to face him, he motioned to the topmost cabinet. She nodded and reached out to take it. She stretched and stretched unable to reach, when two long hands hands beat hers and reached to take the oil vessel down. Sharon turned to look at him. He stood pretty close to her, looking into her eyes. For a moment all else but them had vanished. Regaining control, she muttered a small "Thanks" and continued to mix the ingredients. Swayam meanwhile decided he would not leave. He took out the toaster and the bread. He plugged in the toaster and buttered a toast and tossed it into the toaster. While he waited he snuck glances at sharon, who was busy with the eggs. "Ye hi soch raha hoon ki, kab mein sharon rai prakash ko, canteen ki kitchen mein nahi, palki apne kitchen mein dekhun" she remembered him say. She blushed, at the meaning behind those words. Swayam caught ber blush. She turned to sneek a glance and got caught in his eyes. Swayam knew exactly what she thought. "Kash aisa hota" he thought and then turned to take the toast out of the toaster. Still in a half trance, he absent mindedly took the toaster out with his bare hands and in the process,, kinda scalded himself. "Ouch" he yelped. Sharon immediately jumped to his aid, grabbing his hand she blew over his fingers. "Laga kya?" she asked in between. He watched her and he was touched. She, showing so much concern for him, over a tiny burn. It really pierced him deep. She dragged him to the sink and made him was his hands. And blew over the part more. "Umm sharon...thanks" he said meekly. She'd stopped by then and Swayam slowly shrugged his hand out from hers. They returned to their respective work and then sharon laid out dinner for both on the table. They ate in silence. To break the awkward silence, Swayam told sharon about what had happened when she was away while she heard him out.
Swayam quickly laid out the sheets fluffed the pillow and made it ready. Satisfied with his work, he went to call Sharon. And there she slept, looking as angelic as ever in her sleep. He went over and knelt in front of her, looking at her tenderly. "I love you Sharon" he murmered and blew a flying kiss onto her. She smiled a little in her sleep. Not wanting to wake her up, he carefully, cradled her in his arms and took her to the room. Gently he set set her on the bed and covered her, his eyes tender all the while. He looked on for a few moments and whispered a good night. He was about to leave and switch off the lights when she tossed a bit and murmered "I love you too Swayam" and silence. He looked at her to see if she'd woken up. Sighing with a smile he turned off the lights and went to his room. Getting into his bed, with the promise of sweet dreams, one thing he knew for sure. She loved him, irrevocably and unconditionally, like he did.
