Is Bollywood debauchery encouraging adultery in our society?

The inability of leading stars to stay in stable relationships is being justified by packaging it as creative cinema? Will the self serving attempt encourage adultery amidst the impressionable youth?

Men lust, women love – say many creative artists who deal with human relationships! Example? Says US actor Billy Crystal, "Women need a reason to have sex. Men just need a place!" A sweeping glance at recent Bollywood scenarios reveals the well-known truth behind these quotes. In a unique co-incidence, the adultery law of India is in for a change just as Saif Ali Khan and his girlfriend of a few years confess to their breakup after his recent illness. A suggestion from India's National Women's Commission has resulted in the Parliament planning to turn adultery into a 'social offence' rather than a 'criminal act' as was in the past. "When Saif returned from the hospital, he was not even talking with Rosa," say close friends of the couple, "Saif has been thinking aloud and on the Koffee With Karan (Johar) show, he admitted that 'he had been immature and not serious enough about marriage and its responsibilities'. There are rumours that Saif may wish to get back with Amrita. For Amrita Singh and her children Sara and Ibrahim, this may be poetic justice – her marriage broke up because of the adulterous relationship of Saif and Rosa. In recent times, Aamir Khan's marriage with Reena Dutta also broke up because of his relationship with Kiran Rao. Other than these two, macho star Akshay Kumar and the sensual Kangana Ranaut have been rumoured to have adulterous linkages. Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna Set The Discussion Ball Rolling Last Year! So, do Bollywood stars and films present adultery in a fascinating manner and invite fans and viewers to taste the forbidden fruit? Past year's news and films, both may prove this. To begin with, there was this great debate with the release of Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna where Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee were engaged in an adulterous escapade and left their respective partners to walk into an unknown future – albeit with an apologetic attitude! Shah Rukh – in real life – has said that all male stars have innumerable temptations but he believes in being loyal and devoted to his wife Gauri. Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and the latest-to-be bridegroom Abhishek Bachchan, have been silent on the subject though both he and his will-be bride Aishwarya Rai have had broken romances before their engagement.

The antiseptic adultery of Amitabh Bachchan and Jiah Khan

But then came Nishabd – and the antiseptic adultery between the 60+ Amitabh Bachchan and teenager Jiah Khan was totally rejected by audiences! "The character I played was crazy and insane," Jiah says, "A teenager lusting after an old man is scary and insane. But I have seen young women throw themselves at older, richer men. Indian sexuality. Skirts, cholis and even traditional sarees are more explicit than ever before and speak the language of sex. It seems that extra-marital escapades are far more acceptable today than before both for men and women!"

India – A hypocritical, two-layer society?

Was adultery always a feature of Indian society? Was it under wraps for women? Has Indian society always accepted that men will have mistresses and girlfriends and women will sleep with their lovers in secret trysts? This is a moot question – and the answer may prove that Indians are a shrewd two-layer society, one of total pretence of virtue and straightforwardness and the other of lust fringed with unimaginable flights of sexual pleasure! Write in your opinions and experiences… and may be your secret information and sting-op photographs or rumours on Bollywood stars' sexy escapades! This may make an exciting, long-overdue talk-back debate!

News flash!

Karisma Kapoor is back to her slim, sexy wraith-like figure after marriage and the birth of Samaira, her daughrer. She's ready to dance around the trees in a Bollywood film once again. David Dhawan is busy writing a script for her and her favourite star of many hits – Govinda!

I don't think Bollywood is encouraging adultery, they are just showing what happens in real life and what the possible outcomes could be.

Not really...bollywood is for pure entertainment....ur not suppose to do eveything the movies tell you do...just cauz Krrish can jump off buidling doesnt mean you go and jump off a building as well....and if KANK showed extra-marital affairs doesnt mean u go and have one also....bollywood may show reality but doesnt mean u follow the path that they give...so for me bollywood is pure entertaiment and great timepass

although watchin movies made repeatedly about this subject makes you kinda immune to it 😆

but why bag out the films? tv shows have like made polygamy legal 😆 and affairs?? my god, affairs in tv shows is like breathin...totally necessary! 😆

but at the end of the day, adultery is wrong. making movies on it? why not....as ppl have said b4, its entertainment

but i believe these issues shud be treated in a more mature manner...KANK was not a mature attempt...

older movies i think handled this subject very well...and seriously, this so-called trend of making movies on adultery isn't new. Look back into the history of bollywood and you'll see many many stories
