At the height of the unrest in Palestine, and the war in Iraq many attempts were made to boycott products made in the USA. It was done largely on individual basis, and it was successful to some extent. Yet, at the end of the day, people realised that the ones getting affected by these boycotts were mainly the locals who were employed by these chains. Banning is never a solution; however, as Tania said - a large-scale boycott orchestrated by large organisations might cause a shift in policies.
It would depend on what a country's policy is about child labour. I believe that no country encourages child labour so it is unlawful and inconsiderate to use the as bonded labour. Before proclaiming a ban on branded products like Nike, TH etc. we should take the cause up with the government of developing countries. If the law is enforced then automatically companies would be forced to release the child labourers.
Now that is an ideal solution. The truth is most developing countries either don't have a free education-food policy for poor children or the parents instead of sending children to school send them to work. Unless the law is stricter and accommodating to the poor we can't do much.
I can't comment on McDonald in US because I found it unhygienic that I just walked out and never went back to one again.
if one person refuses to wear fur coat just to save animals, it will not help.
I always wondered about this fur issue. I can understand if fur coat made by mink is avoided because it is almostt extinct but there are fur coats made by skins of other animals like fox, otters etc. If we have strong objection to fur then do we avoid wool in India? Wool is made with sheep and Yak. Why doesn't anyone raise voice against that? How many of us refuse to wear leather?

Well i differ from the view here a little. Banning of such a famous product or brand is not an easy task. So many of us eat McDonald food and even if they are using child labour, trust me it doesnt come to our mind while we are eating. So even banning in awarness campigns wunt help. The only way this can be stopped is that the government themselves ban these franchises to operate in the countries thus dropping the sales. 😊
