The reason why Gaandhaari's dad accepted the proposal of marriage was to avoid war. But do u think that if he hadn't accepted the proposal, there would have been a war between Gaandhaar and Hastinapur?😕

Bhishma heard of Gandhari in Hastinapur and felt she would be a perfect wife for Dhritarashtra who was born blind. Dhritrashtra was noble and a great physical beauty, but his blindness made him vulnerable. So having a wife with pure vision like Gandhari was, he would have been much stronger. Bhishma went with a proposal keeping these things in his mind.

Problem was that, Subala and Shakuni assumed he has come here to get Gandhari married to Pandu. Bhishma later clarified he's here for Dhritarashtra. Gandhari had been the one who had taken the final decision to accept the proposal and blindfold herself.

I seriously don't think there would have been a war.

Well,a small war would have happened...bt I dont think so that Gandhaar could stand long enough in front of Hastinapur...So,to avoid destruction.there would be a meeting n Bheesma would have talked abt Gandhari as wife for Dhritrashtra...And so shakuni took oath cozz his sis was married to a blind...

i don't think so

the reason Gandhar accepted the Hastinapur proposal was as they too were eager to ally themselves with a much more powerful kingdom

marraiges for kings were only political alliances to climb ladder of social hierachy ...all the swayamwars ...Panchal , Kuntibhoj , Mithila were with this purpose only ...getting the mightiest alliance to protect the kingdom's interests .

all this that the serial shows of Bheeshma subtly bullying like a political mantri is rubbish

girls did not have a value in those days , it was a chauvinist world out there where joy was expressed if sons were born ...girls were considered as assets if they proved beneficial to the father through meaty proposals ...example Draupadi who turned the suta putra down and made her father proud by staying put in an alliance which allied him to Hastinapur and gave a fitting reply to Drona who used his best pupil to get what he wanted ...the answer was ...that best pupil of yours is now my son in law so my greatest ally

these were all political jawabs

Gandhari proved valuable for Gandhar's destiny as a small kingdom ...Shakuni could make prolonged stays away from it coz no kingdom dared to attack it as it had Hastinapur and hence Bheeshma for an ally

Janak was joyous to have Dasharath as an ally

Same with Kuntibhoj . And Madra .
