Cousin marriages were prevalent in ancient times in all societies. Once people evolved and had more choices it slowly became taboo in many cultures and societies. There are even laws now to ban first and second cousin marriages.
My personal opinion: I am not comfortable with the whole idea of marrying a blood relative. I think it is fine if the cousin is far related and that is not first or second cousins and related by marriage and not blood.
It is also proven that inbreeding has higher chances of genetic disorders.
maya, can you please tell me where you read about banning first and second cousin marriage.
Raunaq, Cousin marriages are banned in many states in US.
