Marrying within the family is considered a taboo but it still happens especially in India and other middle-eastern countries. What is your opinion on the situation? Why do you think it still happens?

Cousin marriages were prevalent in ancient times in all societies. Once people evolved and had more choices it slowly became taboo in many cultures and societies. There are even laws now to ban first and second cousin marriages.

My personal opinion: I am not comfortable with the whole idea of marrying a blood relative. I think it is fine if the cousin is far related and that is not first or second cousins and related by marriage and not blood.

It is also proven that inbreeding has higher chances of genetic disorders.

maya, can you please tell me where you read about banning first and second cousin marriage. i also don't like the idea of marrying cousins and also the offsprings are more probable to have genetic disease and it doesnt allow genetic variance to a greater extent but i still respect people who marry cousins in india, both in north and south indian cultures as well as in other places. yes marrying cousins still happens in other places.

i would say it's not right for brothers and sisters to get married 😕

yup agree with Maya... in ancient times due to lack of choices there were marriages happened within cousins... but since we have evolved to a larger extent its not recommended to do so as we have several other choices...
and yess genetic disorders are common in inbreedings in such cases ...
I kno people who still get married to first or second cousins but its hugely common that someone marrying a person within his/her caste or tribes...
