Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela" had a decent third week run in the Indian markets. The film raked in over 8 crore in its third week to take its overall domestic total to over 112 crore.
"Ram-leela", featuring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, was released on 15 November in around 3,000 screens in India. The films' collection was hit due to several new releases but it maintained its spot at the collection centres.
The Deepika and Ranveer starrer performed best in Mumbai circuit, which contributed the highest figure. But Delhi and other north circuits had performed relatively low.
The epic love story has performed better than all the films which were released after "Ram-leela". However, the collection might fall further as it enters its fourth week. Also, three new releases, including "R... Rajkumar", will affect the screen space of "Ram-leela".
Overall the film's three-week box office performance was good with over 112 crore in its pocket.
Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan's "Krrish 3" is running in almost all circuits across the country but with only two to four shows per circuit daily.
"Krrish 3", which the highest grosser film ever, has been continuing its marvelous run due to other flop films. The final figures are not revealed yet but its five week total is close to 250 crore mark.
However, some trade analysts believe the box office numbers of the film are inflated and it's far less than the actual figure. But director and producer Rakesh Roshan has denied the reports. [Read the report here]
To report problems or to leave feedback a
even at my place every one is saying how it has beaten all records
but like seriously?I mean like we have censor board and its taken seriouslywe need to have a strict system for these collections as well!this is like a joke- so much variance
but how can Rakesh decide this?
of course being the producer he will say the collections are high to grab a BB status!there should be other people outside the film's team to determine this
A leading financial paper reported: Krrish 3 is fastest film to enter Rs200-cr club with its box-office collections putting in shade Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express.
A reputed weekly national magazine said: The film has beaten the lifetime collection of Ek Tha Tiger and 3 Idiots, thus becoming the second highest grosser of all time after Chennai Express.
A website of a news channel claimed: According to trade, the film has entered the Rs200-crore club thanks to its collections in India alone.
Truth? "No," says a trade analyst who doesn't wish to be named. The Roshans' latest film (now running in its third week) has upset Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman Khan as the trade figures given out are inflated and K3 is being touted the highest domestic Bollywood grosser of all time.
While the fact is that while the figures are correct they are gross figures, not net (like the Khans' films) and also these figures include earnings from Hindi, Tamil, Telugu versions. While the figures of the three films named are net collections, only Hindi and only national. So if you calculate Krrish 3's collections that way, the net figure is at Rs183 crore (only in Hindi) and Rs194 all three languages in India till Tuesday.
Says an industry source, "The Roshans were in a hurry to prove that Krrish3 broke all records including Aamir's 3 Idiots (Rs 202 crore), Salman's Ek Tha Tiger (Rs197.14 crore) and Chennai Express (Rs 227 crore). CE remains the all-time highest grosser and also the highest opening day grosser in India."
Rakesh Roshan says, "Till Tuesday the all India net collection was Rs237 crore while the international was Rs54 crore. I don't know about Krrish 3 breaking the records of Chennai Express but I know my figures and I feel elated. We have put in so much of honesty and sincerity in the film. I am sure other films will break our records too but that doesn't matter. It gives me an incentive to make better films, that's all."
Reacting to the accusation that the box-office figures are not as accurate as they have been presented, Roshan says, "I'm not in a position to fudge the figures by Rs40-50 crore. People don't know the exact figures but I get all the figures from all over India in the morning. People just go by assumptions and know only 70% box-office while I know 100%. We opened at 4,300 screens."

You and us thrive on our films and our film stars. We were the first paper to have started reporting box office numbers, but despite our best efforts in wanting to report accurate numbers, we have decided to discontinue this column. The stakes of filmmakers have increased so much that they are willing to go any distance to manipulate and jack up their numbers to beat each other's records. While there is not much incentive for small films to report false numbers, big filmmakers happily report hiked up numbers. Their need for breaking records surpasses all their other needs. TOI being the largest and the most respected medium in the space of Entertainment, affects them when we report numbers that do not match their hiked numbers. Some common manias that we have observed:
Interestingly, while filmmakers have no hesitation in picking up the phone and trying to convince us about their false data, they will not send formal emails confirming the data as they are scared of subsequent expose. They know that they have achieved their purpose by media reporting 'so and so beats so and so'. We will continue to love films and our stars but for the sake of you the reader, who bestow trust on us giving us a part of your life everyday, we cannot cheat you and report numbers knowing that they are inaccurate.
As a nation progresses, its industries evolve, mature, become more organised, more responsible, more accountable. Bollywood and software are two of India's only truly global industries. The software industry, with companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Cognizant, is today recognised and respected not just for the work it produces, but also for the corporate standards it has set. Why can't Bollywood do the same?
Yes, any such transition will be difficult, even painful " because old habits are always difficult to shed, especially in an industry driven by personal egos. But, in the long run, the benefits that will accrue from genuine corporatisation will far outweigh the losses, if any. Banks will be more willing to lend to the industry, bringing down interest costs which are at present very high. Investors will be more open to acquiring equity if they are confident that the numbers aren't cooked up. The stock market has time and again placed a premium on companies with high ethical and accounting standards, and discounted those that are known to take short-cuts. It's time
Bollywood asked itself, why can't we be as respected as we are popular? It will, over time, discover that 'coming clean' serves its own interest as much as it does everyone else's.
Opening day record mania: Big films star thiking numbers from day one itself as big stars want to beat each other's opening day records.
Highest weekend mania: Hiked up weekend numbers to show their supremacy over one another
'100 crore club mania: Films that have not reached the '100 crore mark but are close will insist that they have reached the '100 crore figure as they can't resist being in the '100 crore club.
'200 crore club mania: This is the biggest club and we believe all our top stars are in this club. But it is not enough for them to be in the club. What is important is who is the biggest.
