New Delhi: Move over the 'typical' Hindi filmy hero who takes on 50 goons at one time and sweeps off his lady love with cheesy one liner. Bollywood's new age heroes are suave, intense, determined and passionate. They speak more with their eyes, smile and charm. As the year 2013 comes to an end, we take a look at some of the Bollywood actors who won the hearts with their stupendous and heartwarming performances.

Farhan Akhtar: Many actors have played a 'sardar' on screen but none has gone to the lengths of growing their hair and beard in order to get into the character. From perfecting his accent to undergoing rigourous training, Farhan Akhtar perfects not just his lines but also gives an incredulous performance in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' inching closer to the life of ace sportsperson Milkha Singh.

Irrfan Khan: He might not fit into the bill of a typical Bollywood hero but he surely knows how to captivate all with his performance. Only an actor of a caliber of Irrfan Khan can make you fall in love with a man in late 50s. Recreating old-fashioned romance in 'The Lunchbox', Irrfan beautifully portrays the role of a self restrained man who undergoes a change after he falls into love and brings out the desire to live through his character in the film.

We take a look at some of the Bollywood actors who won the hearts with their stupendous and heartwarming performances.

Dhanush: There is more to Dhanush than just being Rajinikanth's son-in-law and the voice behind the viral song 'Kolaveri Di' and the actor proves it in his Bollywood debut 'Raanjhanaa'. He might not have the 'typical' Bollywood looks but Dhanush definitely shows acting prowess. From learning Hindi to working on his diction, Dhanush makes every effort to fit into Bollywood and he steals the show in 'Ranjhaana' by playing a Hindu boy who falls for a Muslim girl.

Ranbir Kapoor: Only a few actors muster up the courage to work with their exes and create magic on screen. The crackling chemistry between Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' drew movie buffs to the theatres and the film turned out to be one of the biggest films of the year. Ranbir Kapoor charms you with his flirtatious ways and sweeps you of your feet.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui: Not many have seen the funny side of Nawazuddin Siddiqui on screen but with 'The Lunchbox' the actor changes it all. If Irrfan's romance sweep many off their feet, it was Nawazuddin's happy act that brought smile to the faces of many. He another striking performance was in Dibakar Banerjee's 'Bombay Talkies' wherein he plays the role of a failed actor.

Ranveer Singh: After doing films like 'Band Baaja Baraat' and 'Ladies vs Ricky Bahl', Ranveer Singh stunned the audiences by revealing a new side of his in Vikramaditya Motwane's film 'Lootera'. The way he seamlessly moves from a sensitive person to an intense lover, leaves a lasting impression. But his crackling chemistry with Deepika Padukone in 'Ram Leela' drew more audiences to the theatres. He infuses life in 'Ram Leela' by playing a passionate lover who defies all norms in love.

Akshay Kumar: He is known for his comic timing and a little over-the-top roles but Akshay changes it all with his role as a fake CBI officer in 'Special 26'. His understated performance sets the tone of the film and makes 'Special 26' one of his most memorable performances.

Pankaj Kapur: He is one of the best performers and Pankaj Kapur proves it every time with each of his new roles. He completely charms you with his character in 'Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola' who talks to a pink buffalo after getting drunk. He doesn't lose his grip on the character, not even for a single second and makes Mandola one of the most charming characters in the film.

Sushant Singh Rajput: There could not have been a better debut for Sushant Singh Rajput than 'Kai Po Che' wherein he plays a sportsperson who opens his own coaching institute. Based on Chetan Bhagat's popular novel, the film revolves around friendship and Sushant clearly is the life line of the film.

John Abraham: Gone are those days when John Abraham was just a poster boy in films. After years of being bashed up by critics, he did give them an answer with a stupendous performance in Shoojit Sircar's 'Madras Cafe'. He fits the bill of an Army officer who goes for an undercover mission to Sri Lanka.

I really liked Farhan Khan as Milka Singh. That was truly a difficult character to pull off convincingly. He should win the critics awards this year. And Nawazuddin Siddiqui brought the biggest smile on my face in the Lunchbox!

I love Farhan, but his acting in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is seriously overrated. Maybe its because I thought the movie was awful.
Nawazuddin in The Lunchbox and Bombay Talkies on the other hand... šŸ‘šŸ¼

John Abraham put on a stupendous performance in Madras Cafe? Hahahaha yeah right! He had about two expressions he used throughout the movie, he displayed no emotion whatsoever despite everything that was going on, and it seemed as if he was sleep-walking through the role. Throughout the movie, I was completely shocked by how a horrendous actor like John Abraham can even ruin a movie with a brilliant script like Madras Cafe. He was trying to pull a Ben Affleck in Argo, but even to do that you need to have some talent, but John has none whatsoever!

WOW! I am happy for John!
Although late but the appreciation has started pouring! I dont know why is it so difficult to praise genuine effort just because his work wasnt loved before...It was one heck of brave movie as subject, and no one can take it away from John, he is awesome in intense, action movies!
