Prabhudeva's films are unabashedly loud, with over-the-top drama, intricately choreographed song sequences and mind-numbing action pieces. And truth be told, his films, despite all the heavy-duty masala, have been extremely successful at the box office and in many instances, quite enjoyable too. The man is back with his latest, curiously titled R... Rajkumarstarring Shahid Kapoor, Sonu Sood and Sonakshi Sinha, with music by Pritam.

The opening track Gandi baat hooks you from the word go. Pritam takes the kuthu template from Tamil cinema and jazzes it up with Mika and Kalpana Patowary's energetic vocals, to create a fun, rowdy dance number that's immensely enjoyable. However Gandi baat (film version) by Nakash and Ritu Pathak lacks the punch of the original.

Saree ke fall sa (Nakash, Antara Mitra) also borrows from South Indian dance songs but has a strong melody at its core. Pritam uses the violin brilliantly here and the lyrics by Mayur Puri, although silly, are quite endearing. Newcomer Nakash is good but it's Antara Mitra's textured vocals that are the highlight of this sure-shot hit number. A fairly routine composition Mat maari is benefitted a great deal by its singers Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan. Unlike his soft, romantic numbers, Kunal brings quirkiness to his rendition in this whacky song. Sunidhi is outstanding in mimicking Sonakshi and dominates the show with her vocal expressions.

Amid all the dance-heavy songs is Dhoka dhadi, a breezy romantic number featuring Arijit Singh and Palak Muchhal. Pritam adds a catchy chorus and some beautiful interludes to enhance this ballad. The singers do a great job with their delivery. It's back to dance territory in Kaddu katega (Antara Mitra), a part folk, part item number. Pritam's composition is packed with a frenzied energy and a thumping rhythm. And to top it all, Antara's feisty singing makes this raunchy song quite addictive!

The music of R... Rajkumar is masala at its best. Pritam composes a highly enjoyable and spirited soundtrack packed with sounds from the North and South. If that's your genre, go for it!

Verdict: Hugely entertaining!
