If you think the barbaric dystopian future children killing children for amusement and sport in the Hunger Games is just fiction, unreal and impossible, think again. We have our own Hunger games of verbal slaughter and abusive murder in Big Boss. It may not be a blood sport, but the contestants get so ugly that even the Hunger Games pale in comparison. At least the killer children have a sense of humanity and consciousness. Who knows what alien species resides in this house that is devoid of any human sentiment.

I've pretty much stopped following this section this season because it is by far the worst. It is one thing to have loud, angry, fights and arguments, but a whole different ball game when it is reduced to perpetual abusive behavior, bullying and demeaning of the worst kind. Far worse when the host encourages the abuse and reprimands the one off transgressions and misbehavior of other inmates. Far far worse when even ordinary people get into petty fights supporting or justifying the abusive behavior of their favorites instead of acknowledging that we have a big huge problem across the board with everyone.

However, a friend posted an article on twitter today, that brought me back here just for a bit. http://www.firstpost.com/bollywood/why-is-tanisha-mukherji-letting-armaan-kohli-abuse-her-in-bigg-boss-1247975.html

Irrespective of whether the show is scripted or not - the behavior in this season is unfathomable and it is even more scary that it goes unchecked. We associate such misogynist abuse with the lower class - uneducated drunks and illiterate women who have no hope. It makes sense in that strata of society that doesn't have the privileges that we do and doesn't know any better. But for educated, well to do people to engage, mutely suffer, and silently watch such abusive behavior is beyond belief.

I'm not sure what the point of this topic is. Once upon a time I would have thought about having a debate or discussion. Bring light to the issues. But the way the early parts of the season went, I'm pessimistic and skeptical about people's desire and ability to do that. So I guess this is just me venting and a last minute grasp to see if there is still any sanity left.

These are all Gladiators and we are the spectators who are cheering and jeering for their death match.

Unfortunately I do not feel guilty of enjoying it -- hell yeah!!!

What can I say.. Its a very dirty game this year.. Coz we don't have one imam or dolly n rest against them, this time most of them are at the same level.. N the host's job this year is to add more fuel to it all..

Tanisha - Dealing with Emotional/Verbal Abuse & Bullying. Repressed soul near Armaan Kohli
Gauhar - Dealing with Eve-teasing & Harassment by Ajaz Khan. Former friend that has turned into this target by the street side romeo who fails to understand that when a girl says no she means no.
Prats - Dealt with Bullying by the host
Kamya - Dealt with judgmental label "tum toh divorcee ho" (as if that is such a big sin)
Eli - Dealt with eve-teasing initially but she was fine later

I'm not a regular viewer but I follow forum posts and then sometimes catch the show. This time it's so bad that I lost interest and stopped watching.

The host who advices, preaches has the audacity to tell Asif to ignore what bully Armaan says. Just walk away. Since then housemates just ask the victim to keep mum or walk away as the bully gets host's support and almost never questioned. The only time bully was questioned is when host's friend's sister in law was reduced to a doormat and all Bollywood aunties were worried about her. From what I read on the forum, Armaan again misbehaved with her today and she was angry with him. Later he probably apologized as someone wrote that they were again together at night.

@ bold. Sad state of the forum. Worse is how female contestants are showered with choicest adjectives under the cloak of neutrality.

I'd add Asif to the list of bullying victims too. People, Armaan group especially were horrid to him for his accent and speculated sexuality.

I get why Salman isn't defending any of the victims and confronting repetitive abusers. I get that he probably doesn't give a damn about most of them, but I thought he'd at least try to knock some sense into Tanisha who is like a beaten wife clinging on "but he loves me when he's not punching my face" [FYI - that's a hyperbole]

Yep! There is a plethora of excuses to defend abusers/eve-teasers, trash the victims and pretend to be nice little neutral angels

- abusers were instigated
- you didn't see the whole thing
- they made up and are friends now
- oh it is between good friends
- it is just a show
- it is not real
- well why don't they speak for themselves
- oh he/she had it coming
- oh he/she is not innocent, they deserved it
- me and trashing with choice adjectives, I'm merely observing truths
- oh let bygones be bygones
- the other person started it
- it is just entertainment

etc. etc. etc. There is a whole book on making excuses.

This season is almost glorifying abuse and making it seem that its perfectly fine to misbehave - and very few people have a problem. All contestants are equally bad and no one wants to acknowledge flaws in their favorites at all - no matter how serious.

Superbly written. 👏 I couldn't have said it better than you. This season is by far the worst season ever. I think the people who produce this show judge the success of this show according to how low they can go. I think they have touched the gross bottom this time. They can't get any lower than this. There is something seriously wrong with the mentality of the people who are on the creative board of this show.

As always very thought provoking post.Sometime last year my laptop cursor decided to get stuck on the link to your blog in your signature box and it straightaway went to your Islamophobia article.I've been a silent fan since😊

@ Bold: The most shocking & worrisome for me all things considered. The contestants are paid prettily for all the elaborate roadside tamasha they mount in the name of entertainment. The makers earn even more for the same. But what excuse do the people who frequent these portals and post the most vicious, abusive, insensitive and ignorant remarks all in the noble cause of "supporting their favourite" have? And what exactly the fans have seen in this lot to be so impressed that they think nothing of stooping even lower than their idols to prove a point over their ethernet opponent?

It only brings me to the conclusion that we may have more of the kind that we see in this show than we care.
