Variety reports that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is one of several upcoming movies with a budget of more than $150 million, along with Spider-Man 3 and King Kong. They write that "[m]ost of the execs working on the above pics profess their budgets are just $150 million. But some say they're significantly higher."
This is the first we've heard of an estimated budget for the fifth film. By comparison, the BBC reported early last year that Goblet of Fire would cost upwards of $300 million to make, more expensive than any other film in history. Of course, that figure could have changed significantly since pre-production, and similarly, it's possible that this projection could ultimately be wide of the mark, but it's the first time the movie execs have made a public estimate.
