There has been a lot of discussion about whether identical twins (Vikram and Shiv) can look different.
Both these twins are identical and have identical dna, but because of their unique genetic makeup (girls have two x chromosomes) - in one girl, one x chromosome was activated, and in the other, another x chromosome was activated causing a difference of skin colour. Both parents are also bi-racial. If you cut them open, then exact same internal make-up. But externally both look different.

Yes...there is always slight diference in many identical twins...remember Zack and Cody from disney...even they have features differnt from each other...btw Vikram's moustache and his eyes looked more like work of photshop then his own...but there must be quiet some differences in twins...my friend has her idential twin but they look quiet diffrent due to shape of their face...one has round and another has oval face and small things like eye color or shape of ears
go to this site...a very easy and practical explanation of why identical twins differ in small ways:-

Twins can be identical or non identical.
Identical twins result when a fertilized egg accidentally gets split completely/duplicated and forms to separate embryos which develop into babies. They will be completely identical because they are born when one egg gets fertilised by one sperm.
They are called monozyogtic twins.

Non identical twins are usually a result of more than one egg being fertilized at the same time.
In these cases the twins are not identical they are more like siblings who have differences.
They are called dizygotic twins.

aparnauma,
the discussion is on whether IDENTICAL twins can look different (monozygotic twins)... so the reference to dizygotic/fraternal twins you have made is irrelevant.

Monozygotic twins are NOT completely identical. They have different fingerprints, different teeth prints (unique dental records) and the iris of the eyes is also unique in indentical twins which is why passport biometrics can distinguish between eye records.

Generally the differences between identical twins are subtle. Identical twins that are very different as in the example of TM are rare.

Mono zygotic twins look identical. The ones I have come across were totally identical like mirror images.
But the finger prints, teeth impressions and changes in the ires differences exist because they are not controlled by DNA composition but modified by the environment and life style

aparnauma, How can finger prints and iris be modified by environment and lifestyle?
