| Story ideas for films are often inspired by other films. At times, even the entire script and screenplay is a carbon copy of the original. I call it lazy directing, but that's just me… Sitam's producer, Kamal, and director, Partho Ghosh, find themselves in a very sticky situation. The promo of their film is apparently very similar to that of the recent box-office success Salaam Namaste. In Salaam Namaste, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta were filmed having an argument over a cup of coffee, in a studio setting, and each introduced the movie in their own style. For Sitam, a very similar concept has been used. This time around, Kiran Jhanjhani introduces Tara Sharma, who urges viewers to respect women in the promo. Hey, if it worked wonders for Salaam Namaste surely it can do the same for Sitam. Everyone in tinseltown is wondering if fame has gone to Asin's head. Her latest film, Ghajini, set the box-office on fire. In fact, the film is doing so well, especially in Kerala, India, that it is going to be dubbed and released in Telugu. Fans are looking forward to her next film Majaa, which has Vikram in the male lead role. This movie is a remake of Thommanum Makkalum. With Vikram's previous movie being a huge hit in Telugu, the popular actor has insisted that all his films are released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. Majaa will definitely go the same route. Getting back to Asin, Cinesouth reported that the actress gave the media the cold shoulder when she and Vikram were in Hyderabad promoting their film. The reason her attitude left many taken aback is that prior to joining the Tamil film industry, she enjoyed a thriving career in Telugu movies and, in those days, she had no problems communicating with the media. Someone should probably send Asin a memo and remind her that peeving off the media is certainly not the way to go. Watching Amitabh Bachchan (aka Big B) and his son Abhishek in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar, was a treat for Bachchan aficionados
The pair's respective performances in a father and son role was superb, to say the least. And that's exactly why so many movie buffs were looking forward to seeing the actors in RGV's remake of the classic hit Sholay. More so, with father and son pitted opposite each other as Gabbar and Veeru. By the way, Big B starred in the 1975 Ramesh Sippy directed version and Jaya Bahuri (Big B's wife) also appeared in the film. Unfortunately, Abhishek has apparently recently pulled out of the project. He cited a date clash as the reason – Abhishek had already committed to Mani Ratnam's English movie. Gees, talk about a setback, especially after RGV raved about Abhishek when Sarkar released a few months back. "Abhishek is an actor I was always impressed with. When I used to meet him at Amitabh's house, I always noticed that he exuded this macho look. He has the same intensity in his eyes and voice as his father. I knew he would be extremely good in a film like Sarkar," he said in a telephone interview with me (Debashine Thangevelo) a couple months ago. However, official comment on Abhishek backing out of Sholay is yet to be received. But she then decided to play an equally sultry role in Chocolate, which released a few months ago. Let's just say, in one scene, it appears that she's been coached by Kim Basinger; think about that famous cross-legged shot in Basic Instinct. The latest on the actress is that she's making her foray into Tollywood. She will be starring in a Ravikumar Choudhary-directed film, which has Sada as the heroine. Hmm, could Tanushree possibly be looking to the South Indian film sector to gain a few pointers? Incidentally, Chocolate was supposed to be Tanushree's debut film. |
