Dheeraj Sarna could not have made a better move in life than going to work for Balaji. The man, who started as a dialogue writer in Ekta's empire, is finding opportunities galore within the company.
The latest is that he will enter the plot of Hum Paanch (an old but popular Balaji show that will soon return to small screen) as Radhika Mathur's (the half-deaf, second daughter of the family) husband. Dheeraj says of the role he is required to essay, "I play the role of a Sardar who is a forgetful professor. Everything that he tries to do just flops."
Dheeraj is from Jaipur where he wrote plays and also acted in them. He came to Mumbai nine years ago in search of a bigger platform to express his talent. "I did various roles initially, but my work went unnoticed. Then somebody suggested that I start writing for serials. I had no prior experience in this area. I began with writing dialogues and the screenplay for a serial called Mrs Madhuri Dixit on Zee TV. Then I started writing dialogues for Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. To date, I have written dialogues for 980 episodes of the soap. I also wrote the dialogues for Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi on MTV and the Balaji film Krishna Cottage."
Currently, he writes the dialogues for Kkavyanjali and Kahiin To Hoga and plays the role of Happy Singh on Star Plus's afternoon soap Kesar. Other performances include character roles in Balaji soaps. "I was there in Kasautii Zindagi Kay (Star Plus) and also in Kutumb (as Yash) and Koi Dil Mein Hai (both Balaji soaps that were earlier aired on Sony)."
As for the role Balaji has played in his life, Dheeraj gushes, "I have been working with Balaji for a long time now. There is so much work here that I never needed to go elsewhere for work. The whole experience has changed my life. Nowhere else can a fresher get such an opportunity."
