Lashy my dear,

@blue
. You are overestimating the teleaudience. What they really like is stuff like this virtual baby track, the body heat track and the like. That is what pushes up the TRPs. The audience has NO idea about Ranthambhore, Mewar, Marwar, Bundi or Kabul for that matter, and they care even less.

For the bulk of the teleaudience, a historical means grand sets and clothes, and a screenplay steeped in uncomplicated patriotism, like Maharana Pratap, Prithviraj Chauhan or Jhansi ki Rani.

Jodha Akbar does not fit into this last slot, for there is not patriotism here, and they have not even got a subtitle like Bharat ka veer putra , as for Maharana Pratap. Instead they started out by labelling Jalal a haivaan!

If it is as successful as it is, that is due to Rajat, and the twists of the kind I have listed above. If there was too much talk of Mughal politics or administration, the eyes of the audience would glaze over. Ekta Kapoor knows her audience like the palm of her hand, and she will take good care not to let this happen.

So do not get your hopes up as far as this kind of thing or even intelligent romance goes.

Beautiful as always Lana...

Splendid...agree with all you've stated...

Btw, did you manage to catch the Zee rishtey award promo in which RT is performing...you'll be able to get glimpses of his stunts with the sword in it -he's very good..
I'm disheartened that they are not showing even 1/10th of it on screen...surely, Ekta can't be short of funds!!!!

If they want to portray the love story of an Alpha male like the Shehenshah - they need to show a balance between his life as a ruler and a husband...any tracks that don't deal with the harem seem to be in super-fast-forward mode and harem-issues seem to be taking precedence in his life!

I would like the CVs to give a script that deals with good doses of Akbar's real achievements while weaving the tale of developing relations between Jodha and Jalal too!

I would also like to see Jodha take a stance as an Empress... according to documents, she was a wise and diplomatic lady who kept herself abreast with issues of the state and religion! The Jodha in the serial is yet to capture that essence.

Not only would this cover aspects we've yet not witnessed - it will also be a good platform to show sensibly growing trust/friendship between Jalal and Jodha! Besides, the variety will keep the audiences hooked and help towards story/character progression!😊

Dear Lana (if I may)

Congratulations on a very neat and effective take on yesterday's episode. You have rightly rated the Jalal-Bakshi Banu segment as its highlight. Rajat's handling of the scene was truly magisterial .

I was watching it again, and when, after the hug and the (genuine and infinitely tender) kiss on her head, he moves away and asks Aap hi ne Jodha Begum jo wo ark pilaya tha na? the expression in his eyes simply blew me away - they were so still and knowing and so very, very sad. Then,he slowly builds up steam to an anguished peak as his words tumble over one another. It is microcontrolled and incredibly effective, and he never really blows his top as he used to do in some earlier OTT scenes.

Rajat's Jalal simply walks off with all his major scenes, and I do hope he gets to do more of them in the episodes ahead, instead of standard issue bickering with Jodha like a callow boy rather than like an emperor.

But for him, this show would be pedestrian, and would have been easily trumped by Maharana Pratap, which has splendid sets and costumes (it won a whole bunch of technical awards at the ITA, while JA got none), and despite being populated with archtypes rather than complex human beings, still has a superb Maharana Udai Singh and Kunwar Pratap and a magnificent Lady Macbeth-like 3rd queen - no wonder she won the ITA award for the best negative role for a female.

Lana, nice write up. Agree with u on all points. 😊. Rajat was just too good in that confrontation scene with BB. He brought about absolutely all the nuances a loving bro feels when faced with the betrayal from a much loved sister 👏. Kudos to him & the people behind the scenes in bringing about such a touching & impactful scene.

Regarding BB, no words for her misdeeds. Let her now lie in her bed of thorns that she s made for herself. Nil sympathy for her 😡

And now at last, Jodha s aware of the true facts reg her so called preg & also reg Jalal s character. And yeah, she sure has to apologise to him for casting so many vile accusations at him. But dont forget, Jalal also has to apologise to Jodha bcos he also cast a doubt on her virtue. Of course later on with Salima s help & also with his own intelligence he did manage to get at the truth & also saved her in front of Hamida & co. And by bringing BB herself to confess her crime to Jodha, he finally left no room for doubts in Jodha about him regarding the whole fiasco.

This incident is definitely going to leave a great impact on Jalal & raise questions, am sure , in Jalal s mind about the blind trust he places on some of his near ones. We ve seen time & again that Jalal learns from his mistakes & doesn't repeat them again. So this also will be a lesson he ll imbue. Regarding Jodha, well I want her also to start realising that all s not black & white in life but there are a lot of shades of grey too present. Hope she realises this all by herself without being prodded by other persons. She needs to do it for herself if she has to survive & emerge victorious in that harem maze. She s had enough instances already in Agra to realise this & it s high time she starts thinking too, I d say.

Anticipating today s epi & also for a definite progress in JA s mutual trust & their relationship.
