| Mona Singh, whose story began four years ago when the struggling actress became a nationwide icon, thanks to Sony TV, will now vouch for the channel. The plain Jane Jassi of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahiin is all set to take over as the brand ambassador for the channel. She is said to have signed an exclusive 13-month contract with them for a whopping amount of money , running into crores.
Mona has maintained a pleasant, symbiotic relationship with the channel right from the onset. Even at the height of her popularity as Jassi, she agreed to compere a beauty contest for the channel. More recently, Mona participated in, and won Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, a dance show on Sony. She also agreed to host a yet-to-be launched reality show, Extreme Makeover. And all this while declining offers from other channels rather vehemently.
The reasons for Sony to rope Mona in as its face are simple. The channel seems to be going through a bad phase. Most of the gambles that the channel played did not pay off, and most of its primetime shows are registering low TRPs. Not just that, even newly launched shows are being scrapped. Mona, whose Jassi… had earlier catapulted Sony to the big league, is being banked on to salvage the channel one more time. Her reality show Extreme Makeover is eagerly awaited.
Mona says, "Sony has given me everything that I have today. Naturally, I signed the contract with them. I will be the face of the channel for the next 13 months and I will be present at most of the channel events."
The actress further says, "After Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahiin, negotiations have been going on about this. But there have been a lot of changes in the top management, so the contract took a backseat. In between, I was busy with Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and did not get time. Recently, I had a meeting with the channel and I signed it."
Mona chooses to remain tight-lipped about the exact amount she is making in the process. She says, evasively, "After doing Jassi…, I am totally exhausted and am in no mood to take up any more dailies. The reality-show genre is more exciting. Soon, I will begin shooting for Extreme Makeover.
However, sources reveal that she will make a cool Rs 2.7 crore plus variable pay from this new deal. |
