If it's a fad, it must have hit Tellywood!
After whacky voicemail messages and unique ring tones, it's the turn of 'original' caller tunes, often called sing-tones, to attack the cell phones of telly stars.

There are some who swear by Kajrare Kajrare… the latest hit from Bunty Aur Babli- and the tribe includes Jaya Bhattacharya and Rakshanda Khan. "I have selected this song because it is a peppy number, lightens your mood and has beautiful lyrics," justifies Jaya.

Then there are those who prefer to let their callers listen to Just Chill…. From Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, while they chill out themselves, taking their time to respond to the calls. This fraternity includes Sheetal Thakkar, Bhaktiar Irani and Tassnim Sheikh. "This tune is to make people relax. When you have other songs they are like emotional, but this is really different and cool. It tells a person to just chill out and enjoy life!" says a chirpy Tassnim.

And then there are the unique ones. Bad guy Akashdeep Saigal isn't all that bad as he's made out to be in the serials if his caller tune is anything to go by. Callers are treated to Aake Bharlo Bazuo Main….from Lucky, till Akash picks up the call. And is sexy Swetta Keswani still looking for Mr Perfect through her cell? Her tune goes 'I still haven't found what I am looking for…' every time someone calls her.

Shama Sikandar stands out from the rest, and how. We were surprised to hear the old Bollywood favourite Aasman Ke Niche…. When we called her on her cell, recently. And then again, when we called her a few days later, the tune had changed to the latest hot number Aap Ki Kashish… from Ashiq Banaya Aapne! How tastes change! But the lady has a justification all the same - "I have kept this tune because I like the wording and the music of the song. It's differently sung and written."

Vinita Thakur's caller's tune is the hit song of 2004 Woh Lamhe from Zahar. And then there are those who prefer western numbers over Bollywood tunes, like Raj Loghani, who goes I am Mr Lonely..... Every time his phone rings. A strange choice for a caller tune, one would say. Or is Raj sending out hints with his sing-tone?

And yes, the trend of trendy caller tunes isn't restricted to the actor community. There are folks like Siddhant Cinevision's Manish Goswami and SET India's Tarun Katial, who may not share a show, but share a caller tune - Itni Shakti Hame Dena Daata… Uh-huh, who doesn't need moral strength and support in this industry? Not Cinevistaas' creative head Siddharth Malhotra apparently, who's got a peppy Dus Bahane Karke Le Gayi Dil playing on his cell.
Explains Manini De, "See whenever someone calls me, I can make like a hundred bahanas for not having answered the phone, that's why I chose Dus Bahane as my caller tone." What could these bahanas be? "Well, something like my dog fainted!" answers a Manini with an uproar of laughter.

Sangeeta Ghosh also seems to be into the esoteric if her caller tune is anything to go by. Callers are treated to a rendition of the Gayatri Mantra with every call placed to Sangeeta.
