Part 5
After geet got totally in dazed state, neeraj asked maan to leave him alone with geet so that he can ask without any distraction. Maan just shrugged his shoulder, cool with the idea himself as this room was itself suffocating him now. Before closing the door, he gave a glance to the unconscious girl... ahh she has a name now!!! Geet.
"Geet can you hear me" asked neeraj as he sat more closer to her now, holding a notebook in his hand so that he could draught down whatever he felt important. "geet, are you listening??" He again asked, this time a little louder to make her mind alert.
"hmm" came her faint reply. "mai kaun hu, do you know??" He asked. "nhi". "ok, tell me where do you came from, from which city you belong??" He asked, his voice loud and confident. "pata nhi" she replied. "tumhare parents kha hai??" He asked. "nhi pata". He just hated her each reply. Her answer to his each question was only no, how will he solve her mystery he wondered.
"do you remember your parents?? How do they look??"
"papa bhut acche hai. He has black hair, beautiful face, bhut acche... aur mumma bilkul geet jaisi hai, pyaari aur sundar"
He hit his hand on his forehead as he heard her reply, does anyone describe their parents like this. He thought to ask more.
"ok tell me what do you remember about your parents?? Which is the last memory of them with you??"
Geet didn't replied this time, but her breathe got uneven. "geet tell me what you remember about your parents last meeting??"
She clutched the sheets as she wailed, "nhi jana school, geet ko school accha nhi lagta. Teacher acchi nhi!!!" She was sobbing in her unconsciousness as she continued further, "mumma please mujhe ye dress nhi pehenni, school nhi jana... geet want to sleep, no school" she was sobbing and was holding sheets tightly as if reliving the moment when her parents used to dress her up for school and she just cried to not go.
"which school do you study in??" Neeraj asked thinking he is getting somewhere atleast.
"nhi pata!!" She replied, Still sobbing in her unconsciousness.
"accha in which class do you study then, do you know??"
She again nodded head in no!!!
"ok, tell me what your teacher taught you in your class, which subject" he asked hoping atleast she replies this one, so that he could get an idea about her mental state.
"1, 2 , 3... mumma I hate A, B, C... dekho I learned till F, ab school nhi jana..." she said, her mind remembering the day when she said that to her mother that she knows alphabetical series till F, so don't send her now to school.
Neeraj got shocked as he realized she must be in her pre-school, may be nursery or something, when she said that to her mother. And since it's the last scene she remembered with her mother, it meant she was considering herself to be a kid.
"geet do you have any other memory of your parents, is moment ke baad!!!' he asked still unsure.
Geet nodded her head in no, as she relaxed back. She doesn't even know what she was speaking to neeraj, for her she was in sleep, and didn't even realized someone was playing with her mind.
"accha geet tell me how you know maan???" Asked neeraj now covering his other investigation points. "maan!!! Kaun maan???" She asked confused as her forehead cringed in confusion. "maan, whi who got you admitted here!!!" He said, but she still looked confused.
"your friend maan, geet... remember who saved you from the bad man." He said hoping she understands now.
Geet smiled as she now registered who was maan and smiled, "maan accha, sab gande... Maan accha!!" "how do you know maan... socho... when did you saw maan first"
Geet got confused as she tried to remember when she saw him but couldn't remember. She tried hard, her forehead forming creases in tension... she tried to remember hardly, maan... yeah he was good!!! Maan... she tried to remember hard but only some flashed she could see... car... darkness... she got restless and sweat started forming on her forehead.
Neeraj saw her getting tensed now. "geet relax... geet listen" he said to calm her, but she was lost in her memory at the moment. "maan... car... bachalo mujhe bachalo... gande log bachalo" she started murmuring in her sleep and got scared... she cringed her eyes tried to remove the images but they just covered her mind completely... she couldn't see anything just she knew she was scared... a creepy feeling grew up in her heart and she started squirming wildly on bed, holding the sheets in her fists and she shouted for maan, maan she screamed and neeraj got really worried with the way she reacted.
He understood she was being clutched in her memories, which she is not able to comprehend... neeraj tried to hold her by shoulder but she was violent, and hot at the moment... her temperature was very high and the sweats on her forehead spoke of her misery.
The sound of her squeals reached the cabin where maan was sitting, alone at the moment waiting for neeraj to dismiss him but then he heard her shouting and got really worried. He immediately made a dash toward her room only to stop at the door. Her face had turned red due to the hyperventilation and fear and the hold she had on the sheets told him how much she was trying to be awake. He got worried as he saw her shouting to be saved and screaming his name as her saviour... neeraj too saw maan standing on the door and said, "mr khurana you need to wake her up... if I tried, she may get violent... so you do that please..."
Maan immediately came beside geet and called her by name to awake her, but she heard none. "maan push her by shoulders or slap her cheeks... but do something fast" neeraj suggested. Maan immediately pushed her shoulders... no affect and finally he started tapping her cheeks... early slowly then with little force, making her red skin redder... but finally somewhere the tinge of pain reached her conscious mind making it active and soon she opened her eyes.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she looked around herself to see for any signs of danger... she didn't even noticed maan or neeraj... she just knew bad people are around her. "geet calm down... everything is all right" she heard maan's call and looked at his direction. As she saw him, she immediately hugged him tightly startling him with her move.
But she just didn't even know that what was a means to seek solace could mean so big move for others... maan was shocked with the way she hugged him and tried to free her hands from around him but she didn't cared. She just held him tightly and started sobbing loudly... "geet dar gyi... dar lag rha!!!... Dar lag rha hai" she repeated with slow voice near his neck as she hid herself in his arm. Seeing her condition and the nod which neeraj was passing at him, he let her be in his arms for few minutes... and after her sobs died, he freed himself of her hold.
Geet was still shocked up with everything that was going on with her... she doesn't understand a thing what was happening. Why was she scared??? Whom she was seeing in her dream??? She was way too shocked up with everything that was going around... maan saw her still shivering with the aftereffects of her dream and was really feeling sympathy for this girl. He knew she was a stranger but as an human, he do have feelings of pity for her.
"geet you take rest, apke chot lage hai na... you rest hum bahar jate hai" maan said as he stood up. Geet immediately got scared and looked at him with pleading eyes. "believe me koi room me nhi ayega... koi apko nhi daraega..." he said still trying to make her agree but somehow he knew she was more affected today as she didn't said anything just turned her face away.
Maan sighed and decided to give her time alone to recover of the aftereffects and went outside with neeraj. Both men sat in silence as they waited for the police inspector to reach hospital. Maan had tried to ask about geet's condition but neeraj asked him to wait till officer arrives. Soon the officer arrived and maan's wait ended too.
"so doctor, why are we called... any improvement??"
"sir as I had told you about the session I had with geet today, let me tell you she seems in real danger at the moment to me!!"
Maan looked at neeraj serious as he continued... "and the biggest danger is that she wont be able to protect herself against her enemies. Let me tell that straight, she is suffering from partial amnesia, her all memories since her childhood till today is blocked and she only remembers herself as a kid, may be of 4-5 years precisely. She considers herself as a kid now and thus she behaves as one, as you all know, her being getting scared and crying all the time, getting violent and shouting shows that she is pestering us like a kid."
"so how will she recover of that doctor???" Asked maan, as he got serious at the moment.
"mr khurana precisely there is no hard rule for that... she may be better in a day, in a week, in a month or even in few years or probably never... I cant comment on that... I can just treat her to help her in her recovery."
"how she knows mr khurana doctor" asked officer as he gave a suspicious look to maan again.
officer, now she hadn't told much about maan but whatever she said gives a signal that she remembers him because she had seen him when she was living most traumatic part of her life that's why his image got printed in her brain along with the memories of the torture that was given to her... I think since he had saved her then only that's why she only trusts him."
"anything about her identity??" Asked officer.
"nah, she is just giving half answers... may be after some more sessions we can make her talk more"
"is there anything else doctor???" Maan asked when he saw neeraj taking a sigh.
"yes mr khurana, there is something which is most urgent at the moment now."
Both maan and officer looked at neeraj confused as neeraj stood up and moved near the window.
"mr khurana, I know you are here because you are guilty of hitting her but since her condition is not merely because of the accident but her own mental issues, you don't get entirely responsible for her condition. But mr khurana, there is something called sympathy and I hope you have that for her..."
"doctor could you stop beating round the bush and come straight!!!"
"mr khurana, today I realised that geet would only listen to you... because she has an undying trust for you in her mind, which is mainly what gives her strength when her mind plays games around her... like now when she was caught in the web of memories, it was your voice that brought her out."
"umm.. Go on" he said when neeraj waited and glanced at maan for a moment.
"mr khurana we cant keep geet over here in this hospital anymore. She has mental issues and her traumatic attacks would start creating difficulties for other patient in the hospital which we cant allow. And most importantly she cant be treated without your presence.
Maan could get where neeraj was hitting at and immediately stood up from him seat... "doctor I know what you are trying to say but let me remind you I have a life of my own... I cant just come and sit with you whole day while you treat her. I have a business... a family to look after that and since last four days what I have did is coming hospital missing all the important meetings."
"I know sir its difficult for you, that's why I am saying that could you take care of geet at your home... see we cant keep her at hospital and she needs you only as she wont trust anyone... even after your effort to befriend me with her, she forgot everything about that after she woke and denied to see me even... so without you her condition will be worse... and you are a rich people, I am sure giving a room at your mansion to her wont be a big deal for you"
"having money doesn't mean I will start servicing others and bring them in my house... and there are other people tooo... she can get violent on them or cause problem!!!"
"but you could calm her the very moment khurana ji. See I cant force you but let me tell you that if you didn't took her with you, we will have to take her to mental asylum to treat her... there she will behave violently seeing all those faces... and the kid in her would get wild because of all that and probably will get more traumatised instead of recovering... you could imagine sir how she will be treated there, so decide what will you want for her."
"but!!!" maan said trying to interrupt.
"mr khurana we cant force you to take her in, but let me tell you, your love and care would be a better medicine then the treatment she would be given their".
