To B(oycott) or not to B

There is a debate going on in the Forum as to whether KS should be boycotted or not given the nonsensical storyline. Sadly if a bad storyline was a necessary and sufficient condition for boycotting a serial, none of the serials at least not the Mayee ones would have any viewership at all. As far as my two cents on the matter goes, KS is now the height of dumbness but does at least do one thing. It keeps us friends together on one platform. So I do not see any useful purpose by boycotting anything. A better option would be to keep bombarding Zee TV and Balaji with emails et al to change the storyline as per our tastes.

But at the same time it cannot be denied that the way the serial is going, it is just going to lose its audience. Particularly people like us- educated, thinking and Net savvy. I did not watch Wed-Fri epis and only half yesterday's. Not because I was boycotting KS but because I had other engagements. I could have of course rearranged all this or wait for 1130 PM epi (IST) - I would certainly have done so in the golden days- but chose not to for the simple reason that I am not too attached to the serial any more.

Sadly, it will be apathy not a boycott which will end up killing both KS and KS IF.

Coming back to KS itself:

J-B-T track: Yesterday we witnessed JW getting hyper at allegations (reporter, Jigs) of TS being in love with Bani. Now I am OK with that as long as JW does not start suspecting Bani because that will be a gross murder of JW's character (or whatever is left of it). You would remember that he never suspected Bani –Pooch (till b4 the alleged abortion) in spite of her cavorting with him at odd hours, in spite of a divorce proceedings and in spite of the photographs, so why would he suspect Bani of carrying on with another Buddha when he knows how much she has sacrificed for him. It would be ridiculous.

Besides, apart from the J-B-T track are there not more pressing matters? Do we know what J-B's opinion on important matters- the ONS, JW's concealment of ONS, Banigiri, Jasoosi, Pia, Pia's kid? Do we know whether JW and Bani have forgiven each other's mistakes etc. and accepted each other truly? Don't we think that these matters need to be resolved b4 we go to other tracks?

Redemption of Pia: After all that Pia has done in the recent past, I don't see whether any purpose will be served in redeeming Pia. Having said that, we need to ask ourselves whether the treatment meted out to Pia's character was fair at all. Agreed RC's acting ability leaves a lot to be desired and there were no suitable vamps- Payalji failing to do justice to Jigs and Barnali fading away- but was Pia the kind of monster that she was made out to be. She was selfish, jealous and discontented character no doubt and would have become a very grey person over a period of time but was she a person who would drug and rape a guy? Would she allow her Di to become a zombie and die in front of her eyes?

I know most of you guys hate Pia and possibly do not care for anyone but J-B. But it is not just about Pia, it is about maintaining consistency of character and if the character of someone changes it should be in a gradual, evolutionary kind of manner, not overnight. And if the kreatives destroy one character, little prevents them from destroying others too. And precisely that is what has happened. P-P were destroyed first, then JW (post ONS) and then to redeem him a wholesale slaughter of everyone at WM (including Bani ) carried out. With the result that there are few characters that we sympathise with any more. And this only makes the story poorer. For instance when RK-PD could not shoot together the kreatives could have explored other angles- the Bali family, Maasi-Karuna relationship, the Shukla household, but having destroyed them first, no one in the audience would have given these characters the time of their day.

The kreatives have to get one thing, they need to focus on the whole cast, if KS has to last 3 years how long can they do j-d-d and separate and reunite J-B (a la KTH), other characters/relationships have to be developed/explored.
