Amit Behl's wife Vaibhavi delivered a baby on Sunday

Actor Amit Behl and his wife Vaibhavi have become parents for the first time.

They were blessed with a baby boy on Sunday morning (March 11). "My mother tells me that he looks like me," says the proud papa.

The couple was at the music launch of Eik Dasttak at a suburban restaurant on Saturday night when Vaibhavi suddenly went into labour pains.

"The due date was later this month, but Vaibhavi was very uneasy at the event so we rushed her to the hospital," says Amit.

The actor is overjoyed with the new arrival. "We've been married for over seven years and have been wanting a baby for long.

Vaibhavi suffered a miscarriage a few years ago and then developed a severe back problem, so there was a big question mark on whether she would be able to conceive.

Some doctors had ruled out the possibility, but we are grateful that everything has worked out beautifully."

Last year, Amit got in touch with a childhood friend who is a practicing gynaecologist and that's when the couple saw a ray of hope.

"Vaibhavi was under the care of Dr Jayesh and Ketki Seth, and it was because of their correct diagnosis that Vaibhavi could overcome her medical problems. I am really grateful to them," he says.

Get the name right

This is the first baby in the Behl household so everyone is very excited. "We have yet to give our baby a name. We will check with an astrologer and a tarot card reader before giving him a name," adds Amit.

The actor is currently seen in Mamta (Zee) and in Kashmakash Zindagi Kay (DD). While Vaibhavi was last featured on TV in Chacha Chaudhary and Kahaani Terri Merri.

She also used to host a show for Mauritius TV. A few years ago, Amit and Vaibhavi were part of the group that formed Ashtavinayak Productions, which today has produced films like Golmaal. "But then we moved out of it," he says.

He hopes the baby will bring good luck. "In the last two months I have suffered both personally and professionally.

I was hospitalised due to pneumonia, but now all that is past. One look at the baby and everything is forgotten."
