Chapter Ten

COUNT DOWN BEGINS

Delhi:

It has been a week since Khushi landed in Delhi after her final exams and Buaji had been discharged from hospital. Khushi was in her room getting ready for the morning aarti ... It was a special day for her ... it was her birthday. She is celebrating her birthday for the first in four years ... She never wanted to celebrate her birthday after she left India. When asked the reason, she would say that she did not want to celebrate a birthday without her Arnie. As long as she remembers, her Arnie has been part of all her birthday celebrations. This time also she had denied but when Buaji pleaded to celebrate the birthday for her happiness, Khushi had to agree. For Khushi, there was also another reason for this day to be special ... She was finally going to meet her online friend Arnav today. She had messaged him on Facebook when she had reached Delhi and he had immediately replied back saying that his exams were going on and he would meet her once they were over. They had also exchanged their phone numbers but never got a chance to talk due to his exam preparations.

Last night, he had texted her about meeting him today.

Flashback Begins, Yesterday Night:

Khushi's mobile beeped with message notification and when she checked it, she saw it was Arnav's message -

Hey Khushi! My exams are over 😊 can we meet tomorrow! Are you free?

She had immediately replied back saying -

Yes I am Free 😊 When and Where do you want to meet?

He replied back to that saying -

There is a botanic garden nearby your house ... Meet me there at 4.00pm!

Seeing that she replied back -

Ok see you then! Can't wait to see you 😃

He had then replied back saying -

Same here 😃

That had brought a smile on Khushi's face. She was finally going to meet him.

Flashback Ends

Khushi's thoughts about yesterday were broken by Buaji's shrilling voice "Oh titaliya ...Come downstairs for aarti! Everyone's is waiting for you!" Khushi smiled hearing that.

Buaji was more excited to celebrate Khushi's birthday than her. If anyone saw Buaji today; no one would believe that she was discharged from hospital only two days ago ... Even her doctors were surprised at her quick recovery. But love is the best medicine and when all your loved are there beside you, illness can be easily turned into wellness. And in this case Buaji had got her whole family back, then how can she stay in the hospital bed for long.

Khushi went downstairs and saw her whole family standing near the stairs.

Buaji: Janam Din Mubarakho Tittaliya! (Happy Birthday Tittaliya)

Shashi: Happy Birthday Princess!

Garima: Happy Birthday Bitiya!

Yash: Happy Birthday Di!

Khushi: Thank you!

Saying that she took Buaji's, Shashi's and Garima's blessings and hugged Yash.

After that they all moved towards the mandir and did the morning aarti. Once that was done they all moved to the breakfast table and started chatting and planning the day's events.

Khushi: Babuji I have to go meet my friend in the evening!

Everyone looked at Khushi when she said that. Initially they were surprised but soon they realized that she might be talking about Arnav. But to make sure their thoughts were right Buaji asked Khushi -

Buaji: Which friend titaliya?

Khushi: You know him Buaji! We became friends because of you! I am talking about Arnav!

Buaji smiled at back at Khushi knowingly.

Khushi: We became friends in Facebook! But Buaji it's not fair how you told him everything about me and you did not even bother mentioning his name to me even once!

Buaji, Shashi and Garmi looked at how Khushi was complaining about how Arnav knew everything about her she did not know anything about him. They all had the same thought running in their mind; little did she know that she knows almost everything about the person she is talking about and that she he is her Arnie. Well soon she would come to know about it and with that thought they all had a satisfied smile on their face. With they were thinking about all this Khushi was busy complaining while Yash was busy eating. Right now Khushi's little brother cared nothing about other than the food on his plate. Well let's leave him to his food and get back to Khushi. She was now telling them about how she and Arnav had unknowingly accepted the friend requests on Facebook. Poor Khushi, she hardly knew that all the three elders of her family knew all this ... Shashi and Buaji had heard all this from Arnav while they had told all this to Garima ... So basically all this was just a repeat telecast for them.

Garima: Khushi ... why dint you tell me that you had become friends with on Facebook?

Khushi: Woh amma ... I wanted to tell you but I was not sure how you would react! You don't like me accepting unknown peoples fried requests on Facebook and even if I told you that Buaji knows him, you would have wanted to clarify it with Buaji first and she was in hospital then! And as I said before, Yash had already accepted the friend request even before I knew and then soon my exams started and it skipped my mind. I am sorry I did not tell you all this before.

Garima: Its ok bitiya!

Khushi smiled widely when she heard that.

Shashi: So when do you have to meet him?

Khushi: At 4.00 in the botanic gardens!

Shashi: Ok ... I will drop you off then!

Khushi: No Babuji the garden is nearby ... I will catch a rickshaw! You don't worry about that!

Shashi: Ok as you say! But be careful while you go!

Khushi: Yes I will!

And then they all continued having their breakfast silently. By then Yash had started with his second round of food.

Later that evening:

30 minutes were still left for the clock to strike 4.00pm; But Arnav had already reached the Botanic gardens. On his way to the gardens, he had called Shashi and explained everything that he had planned for today. He was hell nervous ... He was not sure how Khushi would react when she see him. He knew that she would understand everything once he tell her the whole truth but still she would be upset with her for not telling her earlier. And he can't blame her for that ... it was solely his mistake for not telling her but he did not have the strength to tell her nor did he know how he would tell her all this through Facebook. Well he very well knows how to pacify her if she gets upset ... Its nothing new to him ... he has done that before too. That reminded him of their first major fight ... that thought brought a smile on his face.

Flashback:

5 years back, Lucknow (When Arnav and Khushi were 13 yrs Old)-

Khushi was in her room and literally chucking everything that came her way ... Khushi Kumari Gupta was angry ... no angry would be the wrong word to use ... furious ... yes that is sounds better ... Khushi Kumari Gupta was furious. And the reason for that was none other than her childhood friend, Arnav Singh Raizada.

Garima came running to Khushi room when she heard loud voices coming from the room and what she saw there shocked her. It looked like an earthquake had erupted in the room; the whole room was dishevelled and in between stood the furious Khushi.

Garima: Khushi what is all this?

Khushi turned towards Garima and when she saw her; the tigress became a kitty. Tears stated forming in her hazel brown eyes and she literally ran into Garima's arms and started sobbing. Garima was very shocked; fear stated developing inside her. She has never ever seen her little daughter like this.

Garima: Khushi .. Shhh ... Bas bacha ... Khushi ... Don't cry! Come on look at me ... Khushi ... tell me what happened! Why is my princess crying? ... Shhh ... bas ... bas ...

She kept trying to convince Khushi but it not worked ... Khushi cried harder and harder. She slowly took Khushi to the bed and made her sit on her lap while Khushi tightened her arms around her.

Garima: Bitiya you are worrying me ... tell me what happened! If you don't then I will go ask Arnav ... I am sure he knows why you are upset!

Hearing that Khushi snapped her head up and angrily said -

Khushi: NO!!! Don't ask him anything! I DON'T want to see him or want to talk to him ever!!!

Garima: Khushi!!!

Garima was really shocked to hear that.

Garima: What happened ... did you both fight?

Before Khushi could answer her back, she heard someone else ... rather she hear Arnav's voice -

Arnav: Amma!

Garima and Khushi turned towards the door and saw Arnav standing there. Khushi got down of Garima's lap and went towards him.

Khushi: What are you doing here? I don't want to see you nor talk to you!

Arnav was hurt to hear that but he did not show it and moreover he knew she was angry because of him.

Arnav: Well if you don't want to see me then close your eyes and if you don't want to then all don't open your mouth!

Khushi was shocked to hear that ... she just could not believe that he had said that to her ... she was expecting him pacify her. Anger aging returned in her and she turned towards Garima -

Khushi: Amma tell him to go away!

Garima: Khushi, you won't tell me what happened but I am sure my Arnav bituwa would tell me! So let me ask him and then I will decide whether he should go or not!

Khushi: Amma!!!

Garima completely ignored Khushi and told Arnav to come sit beside her.

Garima: Now you tell me what happened!

Arnav: Well Amma it is my fault but...

Before he could continue, Khushi interrupted -

Khushi: See he is agreeing!

Garima: Khushi will please let him talk! I need to know what happened! You were crying like a baby before and when I ask you the reason you don't tell me and when Arnav is ready to tell me you don't allow him!

Garima then turned towards Arnav -

Garima: Arnav bituwa you continue!

Arnav: Amma as I said it is my fault but I had to do it ... there was no other way to make her understand! She was the one who teased me saying that I don't have any friends other than her...

But once again Khushi interrupted while he was talking.

Khushi: That is true ... Well it WAS!

Garima: Khushi let Arnav speak! Bituwa you continue!

Arnav: Well you know na amma how Khushi ignores me when that Tani is around her...

Again he was interrupted by Khushi.

Khushi: I DON'T ignore you! You are saying all that because you don't like her!

Garima: Khushi what did I tell you before

Khushi: But amma...

Garima: NO! I don't want to hear anything from you anymore ... You were given the chance before but you did not tell me a word then. Now I don't want you to speak anything until he finishes telling me the whole thing.

Khushi: Fine!

Garima: Good! Arnav now tell me clearly what happened!

Arnav: Well yesterday I was waiting for Khushi in the park, but she was busy with Tani and forgot about me waiting for her at the park. And when I asked her how she could forget about me waiting for her she said that; Unlike me, she has other friends'. I knew she was teasing me but I did not like what she said so I asked her what she meant by that and then she told me that I have only her as a friend but she had many others ... so she needs to spend time with them too!' I got really angry when she said that so I left her. This morning I joint a basketball team at school and the practices had started and I was busy with that. In a way I was trying to ignore her too. But I only did that because I wanted her to feel how I felt when she ignores me! But that brought tears to her eyes ... I should have not got angry and ignored her!

Garima: Hmmm...

Garima then turned towards Khushi.

Garima: And I am guessing that you are upset at Arnav now because he ignored you today.

Khushi: Yes and for not telling me that he had joint the basketball team. He tells me everything ... I HATE it when he hides stuffs from me.

Garima: Hmmm... Come here ... sit next to me!

Khushi went and sat next to Garima while Arnav watched her silently. He hates to see tears in his Kisha's eyes and when he saw her crying today it hurt him and thought of him being the reason for those tears hurt him more. His thoughts were broken by Garima's voice -

Garima: Arnav I am happy that you realised your mistake but beta it's not completely your fault ... its Khushi's too! And Khushi ... you should not have said those things to Arnav ... if he has only you as his friend then you should be happy about it since that shows how much he loves to spend time with you ... only you! And you both should understand that you both are an important part of each other ...You might not have realised this but us being your parents have realised that you both can't live or laugh or cry without each other ... We have seen it since you both were small kids ... You both need each other! This might be one of your first fights many more may be on the way ... During those times just remember one thing never give up on something that you can't go a day without' And that something for you Arnav is Khushi and Khushi for you that something is Arnav ... You both need each other. Just consider all these fights as test given by god to you ... A test to see how strong your bond is. And the only way to pass this test to stay together and fight for each other! Did you both understand what I am trying to say?

Arnav: Yes amma!

Khushi: Ji amma!

Garima kissed on both their foreheads lovingly.

Garima: Well then you both sort out your fight while I go make some fresh hot jalebies for you both!

Khushi and Arnav smiled hearing the word jalebies ... it was their favourite sweet. Garima left the two kids alone.

Arnav turned towards Khushi and his ears -

Arnav: Sorry ... I won't ignore you again! And I promise I will tell you everything from next time and not hide anything from you ever again.

Khushi brought down Arnav hands from his ears -

Khushi: It's ok Arnie! As amma said it's not only your fault but mine too!

She then took hold of her ears and said -

Khushi: Sorry ... Even I promise that I won't ignore you ever again! You will be my first and last priority.

This time Arnav brough Khushi's hands down and said -

Arnav: Its of Kisha! And even if someone like Tani comes in between I know ways to get rid of them!

Hearing that Khushi's moth formed an O".

Khushi: Arnavvv!!!

Arnav: Khushiii!!!

Then they both started laughing together and after a while they hugged each other.

Arnav: Love you Arnie! You are the best!

Khushi: Love you too! And I know I am the best!

Hearing that Khushi playfully hit Arnav's arms. Later they both broke apart form the hug and smiled at each other.

Arnav: Waise Khushi ... if you want I can withdraw from the basketball team!

Khushi: NO ... Don't do that! It did upset me when I saw you playing today but that is because you did not tell me that you joined the team. But it's all ok now! And while I was there ... I saw that you played pretty good. So continue playing and make me proud. One day I should be known as the best basketball player's friend.

She said that with her head held high and seeing that Arnav smiled back.

Arnav: Ok I will! But for now let's go eat the jalebies!

Khushi: Yes let's go ... I can smell them and the smell tells me that is delicious as usual!

The both smiled widely and rad down to the kitchen to eat their jalebies.

End of Flashback

His thoughts broke when he heard an auto rickshaw's noise. He stood up from where he was sitting ... for some reason he felt that it marked Khushi's arrival. He slowly turned back to see that he had guessed it right. His Kisha was standing in front of him in a pale pink churidar she still had the innocent, cute look but now she has turned in to beautiful woman too ... She looked gorgeous. It felt like his breath had got stuck in his throat. He looked into her hazel brown eyes and he could see that a lot of emotions passing through ... ranging from shock, happiness, confusion and then finally realization.

Khushi had reached the park and she had felt a familiar sense around her when had gotten out of the auto. She paid the auto driver and turned to walk into the park. But she halted immediately after taking her first step ... there stood in the distance a familiar figure ... no a very familiar figure. Even if she would have been locked up in a dark room with that figure she would easily recognise it as his ... How will she not ... After all it belonged to her Arnie. The moment that thought struck her mind she froze. Her Arnie was standing in front of her. She was shocked ... where he was all this while. But then she was happy to see him too ... finally she had found him. But then she got confused ... wasn't she here to meet Arnav then how did Arnie ... Finally realization struck her ... whenever the thought of Arnav being her Arnie crossed her mind she used to push it off but in reality her Facebook friend Arnav was really her Arnie ... Her childhood Friend.
