Q Like most new entries in daily soaps does your character in Kulvaddhu also come from abroad?
Yes, Jhanvi has come from America. She studied there with Shourya, is in love with him and wants to marry him. His marriage to Niyati, his childhood friend, is a sham. It happens in a moment of crisis in the Rathor family. Jhanvi is Shourya's real love and even Niyati knows about this. She promises Jhanvi that she will tell the truth to everyone about her fake marriage and help Jhanvi get married to Shourya.
Q Is Jhanvi a grey character?
No, she is not a grey character. Not at the moment, at least. She is obviously jealous and feels cheated. She is now waiting for Niyati to tell the truth so that she can marry Shourya.
Q Is it a love triangle?
It's an important character. Jhanvi is part of practically every scene because she will try her best to get her love back from Niyati. I really don't know the character's graph because in daily soaps nothing is known beyond a week. But it's for sure that the character will stay on for a long time. I also don't know whether a love triangle is in store. Who knows, if the TRPs come in a love triangle, then so be it.
Q As an actor how satisfying is a crime thriller like CID to do?
Well, in a crime thriller most of the time actors end up asking questions to the suspects and accused. There is not much scope to perform given the limitations of the show. But once in a while we do get our personal tracks going where I get to perform my own little bit.
Q Your last serial was Kahani... why did you quit the show?
Kahani was my first show and it made me popular as Monalika. It was a grey character who was influenced and used by Pallavi against Parvati bhabhi. The character did not end but after one and half years Monalika gradually strayed into insignificance with the entry of other characters and new tracks. Since I didn't have much to do in the serial I parted ways on an amicable note.
Q What did you do during your long break from TV?
I got into anchoring live stage shows. I toured with Sonu Nigam abroad and hosted all his shows. I also anchored Steel giant Lakshmi Mittal's niece's wedding party in Bali. I had a great time and realised that life is not all about shooting from morning to night. It was great fun and it paid me very well.
Q Better than acting?
Oh yeah, there is real good money in anchoring stage shows and other events. Even for a television anchor there is lot of money as compared to the time spent. In fact, now I am really looking forward to anchoring TV shows.
Q What compelled you to sacrifice your studies for acting?
I knew what I wanted to do in life. Since I wasn't going to be a doctor or engineer I didn't have to study that hard to clear my exam. Of course I did struggle to get through my papers but I completed my graduation while doing Kahani. The show came my way at the right time.
