One Day for Women.... And the rest....??? For men???

Is the International Women's Day observed as a tribute to all women on earth genuine

OR

Is it just a farcical innuendo trying to convey the idea that this is one of those odd days when women get to be special... Implying that the other 364-5 days of a year is a "Man's Day" !!

Women have been exploited in the garb of being the more honoured of the two sexes...

Traditionally (In India atleast) women are said to be on a higher pedestal than men. Things like family pride and honour lie in the hands of the women in the family. And this very *honour* bestowed upon them is the root cause of their exploitation; right from the Purdah system to Sati where a woman is expected to die before endangering family honour.

A woman is respected because she is a mother, a daughter, a wife and a sister... But that apart has she no identity of her own? Why is it that tags like Father, Son, Brother, Husband not attatched so frequently with men as they are with women??? 😕

All this makes me think the observance of this day is more of a symbol of oppression than that of empowerment...

Empowered Women need no one... No day... No relationship to prove their worth...

I am of the idea that women doesn't need a day to celebrate womenhood. But I believe if we keep special days to each cause like oppression of women, Cancer, AIDS, Smoking then people take notice to it instantly and such days do make impact on people to do more for the cause. It is sad that we still need to celebrate Woman's Day.

Again, I didn't know 'women's day' existed until I read a few posts on the forum. 😆

Anywho, why do we need to look at women's day as negative? NOw a days, so many days get celebrated ... mother's day, father's day, birthdays, anniversaries, 'black history' month, human values week, etc. .... these days ought to be celebrated in the right spirit ... to be seen as a reminder that particular people, women in case of women's day, are special and ought to be respected and loved for the rest of 364 days of the year. 😊 .... cause we all know the truth, today we are so lost and busy in ourselves that we forget about the little things... and these kind of days only reinforce what might have been forgotten.... the way I see it is that women are so special, they get a day for themselves. Men should have one, too .... they do so much to figure out why women are the way they are. 😉 We need a rewarding system. 😆

Persy.... the problem here lies in the fact that *women* have to reagrded as something different when they actually form 50% of the world's population.... It has been this so called special treatment given to women that has manifested itself in the form of exploitation... Just as I had said earlier- that extra **HONOUR** bestowed upon a woman has been the root cause of practices like Purdah, Sati and Honour Killings...

i think its ones own way of seeing things. if in our culture women r given more importance then i think its a matter of prestige. and not only that women have porved it again and again that they r deserve this.

in our culture mothers r given more reverence than god.
every time a womens name is taken before a man's and its is rightly said that behind every successful man there is a woman.

as per ur saying that thing traditions have been the cause for malpractices like sati and all...... so i disagree with it.
the causes of this have been evil motives of men.

our society being a male dominated society.

and most important our female ancestors not revolting its their doing that we r suffering now.

as for celebrating women's days its only women who celebrate it and not men. actually its menat for men to make the dya special and atleast for one day acknowledge the contribution of woemn in their lives which does not happen so i think its useless celebrating it.

moreover its just a way for earning money by greeting card companies.
